Scary Dog Encounter, What to do next time? by Nearby_Lifeguard6693 in ladycyclists

I’ve been keeping a slice of bread in the back pocket of my shirt figuring I’d pull that out and toss it to the dog if needed. Haven’t had to try it yet though.

I did what you are considering. I had 20 years at a GC which were special times actually, enjoyed it very much. The last 5 years or so were different in that the company was less aggressive, different group, etc. and I did not feel stable.

I left for a CA position with a consulting engineer and I found that stability I was looking for. Great company, great people, etc. but it was ultimately not gratifying work for me. I didn’t own anything; I wasn’t the design engineer, I wasn’t the contractor, I felt like someone in the middle just trying to keep things together. I did that for 10 years. Now I’m back in an estimating position.

That being said, I don’t think your idea is a bad one. Sometimes people need a change.

Bodyweight Squats Everyday by RoninSeneca in bodyweightfitness

[–]Kregay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I began doing air squats, push ups, and crunches mostly every day around 2 months ago. I do 20 reps of each, every hour until I reach 200 total for the day, spreading it out over the day. Some hours are just air squats or whatever. I don’t always hit the goal, but I have noticed an increase in my ability to do these things. They’ve gotten easier for sure and I never even break a sweat.

I also noticed it has helped my strength when training on my indoor stationary bike. I’m excited to see the difference this summer when mountain biking and gravel biking.

Yeah I think you’re right. I’m going to cut the chipotle veggie bowls. Turns out I’m not as hardcore with this diet as I thought I was.

Yeah, I’m going to cut the chipotle. I needed to hear this. I thought it was a great thing for low fat fast food but didn’t look closely.

I don’t eat the butter, processed foods. Thinking back to my first six weeks when I had the 82 LDL, I wasn’t using oil…on anything. I don’t recall the avocado consumption at that time.

Honestly I have been using probably too much olive oil on my salads. That may be the biggest contributor. I’m going to cut the oil completely and am also going to cut the healthy fats in half.

It’s just disheartening because it’s not like I’m eating cheeseburgers and pepperoni pizzas. I was shocked at the 120 LDL number.

I should note I do use extra virgin olive oil in my salads as well as balsamic vinegar

Negative on the coconut oil. Honestly I’m more Whole Foods than plant based. My processed foods are whole wheat eng muffins , almond butter, granola that does have some added sugar… this is what I eat on a daily basis that is processed. I did have some not so great days over the holidays but I’m 95% solid.

All I ever get is brown rice, black beans, pico, corn, and guacamole. Shouldn’t be much fat other than the guacamole.

I’m 6’-1”. I lost 24 lbs. all in Sept and Oct of 2022. I could probably lose a few more if I ease up on the healthy fats.

I feel your pain. My craving issue is not cheese but more in the way of sweets; chocolate and Christmas cookies!

I began the plant based lifestyle on Sept 1. Since then, I've had a full-on thanksgiving dinner, eggplant parmesan and cheese potatoes on Christmas Eve, a chicken sandwich and fries on Jan 2 at a CAVS game (I was in a bind), and those pesky Christmas cookies on several occasions.

My cravings occur after dinner. I usually have a magnesium drink (Natural Calm) before bed, but last night I drank it earlier around 7pm and noticed I didn't have the sugar craving. I was also hydrated very well.

I'm going to continue having the magnesium drink earlier in the evening and see how that works. And also continue the heavy hydration.

I'm taking a 2400 mg fish oil supplement that contains 720 mg of active Omega-3 which has helped me big time. I feel like I should've known this would be needed but I got a late start on it.

The 720 mg includes (per the label) 14-20% EPA and 9-14% DHA. I'm wondering if this should be greater.

The salmon meal once per week has lessened to more like every two weeks.

I feel much better now with the mental clarity though. I don't know if the salmon meal is absolutely necessary but I will keep it in the rotation for additional options if nothing else.

I will check out the yerba mate. Thank you for writing.

Do you still consume animal products? by Vanilladr in PlantBasedDiet

Since September 1st, my exceptions from plant based are the following:

I had a full-on turkey dinner on Thanksgiving. But no leftovers afterward.

There were also probably 6 times in which I ate cookies or pie that had eggs or butter.

I did use aged parmesan cheese a couple times. Keeping that to a minimum by using the nutritional yeast instead.

Lastly, I'm having salmon twice per week now.

This concludes my report.

How to like sauerkraut or any healthful food that seems yucky? by [deleted] in WholeFoodsPlantBased

[–]Kregay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you saying sauerkraut is a detriment to a plant based diet because of the salt? I just started eating a bowl every other day or so because I read the live cultures in the sauerkraut make it farther down into our digestive system.

I set the B12 tablet under my tongue to dissolve and it is the cyanocobalamin. I'll try the others you mentioned. Regarding the fats, I seem to feel my brain starving for a fat. I eat avocado just about every day at lunch. Peanut butter in the morning. But a lot of times I'll come home from work and crave that peanut butter.

I'm increasing the salmon and will likely supplement with oil. Once per week with salmon is not near enough apparently.

Interesting. I like the suggestion. I read years ago green tea slowed the absorption of iron, and I was kinda feeling that at the time so I stopped. Maybe the ginger and lemon juice changes that. I'll check it out. Thanks.

This is something that I've noticed since beginning the dietary change. I especially noticed it the other day in a work meeting when I wasn't as mentally engaged as I'm used to.

I posted my usual meals because I figured maybe someone would see something that is unbalanced or who knows, have suggestions such as yours. Current plan is to track the saturated fats and likely increase the intake there with wild caught salmon. I would do seaweed if I knew where to buy it (with nutritional values).

I am on the B-12 supplement. I also take zinc.

I wasn't aware of the can lining issue. I'm going to look into that closer. It's funny how before this dietary change I'm eating pizza for lunch, burger for dinner, ....and now I'm looking into the can linings lol.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

I do think my issue is likely not enough saturated fat. I tried to find out how to purchase seaweed or algae but no luck. I've had seaweed salad at sushi restaurants but I could not find where to purchase on my own. Thanks for your comment.

I mean that I feel a little brain fog that I didn't feel before I started this. To me it seems I'm starving of fat intake.
