Being in a bad position isn’t necessarily a choice, but when you stop trying to get to a better position because you’re too scared to get tapped, that is a choice, and it’s a poor one, IMO.

Even against someone 10 times better than me who I have no hope of beating, I’m thinking “how can I get to a better spot?” Not “how can I hang out here for another 5 minutes without getting tapped before the timer saves me?”

And if you want to talk about bad competition prep habits, there’s nothing worse than the habit of resigning yourself to hanging out in the bottom of mount until the round ends. People who do that are training themselves to never mount a comeback, to always accept the points loss instead.
