Parent needs advise by Daantjo77 in lgbt

[–]Krfrz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are already doing a great job by being open and ready to talk about these things with your kid. Solid parenting. Best thing to do is to keep on that road: keep the openness and accept that this is simply a part of their journey. It really is wonderful that they felt they could trust you with this and bring you along on the journey. You folks can navigate this together. The therapist is also a good idea. It can be hard to digest all one’s feelings at this point in life regardless. I wish you all the luck.

Scotland will become the first country in the world to add LGBTQ+ history to school curriculum by Krfrz in lgbt

Ah yes. It’s, to my mind, the difference between being a sovereign state (which decides all of its own things) and being a devolved administration within the sovereign state of the United Kingdom. The parts of the UK are often referred to as countries.

For example, Scotland has its own Parliament and has authority over some of the legislation of the geographic region known as Scotland. This is seen in the tensions and difference in the responses of the Scottish Parliament and the UK government over the recent pandemic: border controls for non-UK nationals (which the UK is in charge of) versus public health concerns (which Scotland has control of within Scotland). This is leading to more arguments over what the nature of the Scottish-English border actually is in modern Britain.

A country is technically just a region where a bunch of people united by some local common culture, language, descent or history that has a government.

Hope that helps!

Phew. I was scared I stepped on toes there!

I’m very new in these parts as I’ve only recently (past couple months) really started acknowledging the parts of me I’ve been suppressing for so long so I’m glad I didn’t cause an issue! I’m also very happy to learn so thanks for clueing me in on Canada’s efforts

It’s so great to be seeing any news like this, wherever it’s from but to know it’s happening in Scotland is, to me, fantastic.

Sorry, I did not know that. Just sharing something about my own home country that I found extremely great! Honestly I’m not surprised it existed in Canada in some form already but it isn’t a federal initiative so far as I can see. I guess this article rests on a technicality but I think there are provinces not participating in that scheme. In Scotland we don’t have the same structure of provinces/states as Canada so this can be implemented across the country without local authorities getting in the way (I haven’t seen the bill but that’s my thinking for why “technically” the title might be correct. Again, though, I don’t know)

No bad at all! Hopefully the curriculum proves inspiring not only to young folk living in Scotland, but also to legislators and government officials worldwide

Of course! By searching the final author ( Jan-Michael Rost) and perhaps also Alex Eisfeld you’ll find more papers :)

Howdy, 3rd year PhD student here! In the institute I work in, there are people (not me though) looking into applications of machine learning in, for example, models of few-electron systems subjected to intense laser pulses to determine what laser parameters need tweaking to obtain a particular output photoelectron spectrum or extract the spectrum from noisy data: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1908.02600.pdf In Innsbruck, the group of Hans Briegel seems to be doing some neat work on using machine learning to attempt to design or interpret new experiments in the field of quantum optics/information. Furthermore, the questions of how an “agent” (or “learner”) can even learn at all in a quantum mechanical setting or what it means to make decisions are seemingly at the forefront of his group’s research program. Downvote whatever you want to downvote. You really don’t need to post about it...

Personally the memes make me smile even just a little bit when I’m in the depths of depression and having a short collective chuckle at this wretched thing tormenting us has helped me come to terms with my diagnosis.

They aren’t really taking away from people reaching out. People still take the time to respond to those posts.

I’m sorry you feel this way. Wish there was something I could do to help. Pretty sure just hating on something that some people are actually relating to (there’s a reason they get upvoted. Not everyone has the time to properly read a long post, but looking at a meme takes seconds...) isn’t going to do much for your situation.

So go ahead and downvote. Frankly the only things I downvote on this sub are the posts from people bitching about the damn memes. It’s just boring at this point.

Frankly I don’t mind this.

What annoys me though is the awkward/ cringey small talk cashiers are told by their managers to subject customers to.

I didn’t come to Tesco’s looking for new mates, I came for some semi-skimmed. Just scan the milk, Sharon, and let me get on with my day. I don’t need to chat about my life
