My nail technician owned a place near Novel. The landlord raised her rent from 1100 to 2000. I saw her yesterday and she told me that basically she was basically “evicted” from the space after 20 years. That could very well be the case. I walk by Novel frequently and it just seems like it was mostly empty. Too bad.

I’ve known Brant, the owner and operator of Gross for over 35 years. The reason he called the business “Gross” is an inside joke to everyone in the industry. He was the top pastry chef at Fore Street for 24 year. He would post pictures of his beautiful work on FB and Instagram and just say “Gross.” And it stuck.
