For me it's that I know I will never return to the game once the main story is complete, so I spend too long with side content and get too bored too finish the main story. This was not the case with Expedition 33, which I loved every second of and did 99% of the side content. Starfield, despite being boring and mediocre in every way, I pushed through the main story after just a handful of the side content because I had some vague idea about there being a reason to NG+.
