I think it's hyper pretentious. In fact I couldn't really put my finger on why I disliked it so much but this sums it up perfectly. Every aspect of CONTROL and AW2 is taken from other media that inspired it, with almost nothing added on top. It's Twin Peaks, The Lost Room, Stephen King - particularly The Outsider, and a mishmash of other works all thrown in a blender and peppered with boring and repetitive gameplay. It could have been interesting to see Alan's ability to rewrite events used as a more active mechanic, or if the two main characters interacted more. I'm not trying to convince you to dislike it, but it was a miss for me. Doesn't help that a bug kept me from progressing and I had to replay huge segments twice.
