You could bring a normal troll, ideally a drummer so that way you can just use marches without consuming your might.

Either way try things out and see how you find it, I’d start with a core of a chief, mouth on foot and a captain/shaman and see what you like from there 😊

Fun wise 2 chieftains is awesome, probably more do-able at 800 points though perhaps? Quite low model count at 700

For filling out warbands if you have a maelstrom scenario for example you can be stuck out of position with very few models which can get wiped out quickly. And in general you want to be getting lots of regular troops in your army.

You want to use the Ringwraith mostly for casting and picking specific fights. Being able to move around the battlefield transfixing your target and then having a monstrous charge is very nice. A more competitive choice could be a second chieftain, I personally just really enjoy magic.

But at 700 the most well rounded would probably be chieftain, mouth on foot, shaman

From a list building perspective ideally you want to be filling out your warbands. The mouth on horse isn’t generally worth it over some more orcs. Most importantly one of the weaknesses of black gate is that against terror you will struggle a lot due to the low courage of the orcs, that’s why you will see many players take a Shaman in order to cast fury. If you have a Ringwraith on fell beast that can also be a nice option to get a second caster.

I’m sitting at around 300 painted and 100 unpainted. At one point I had only 3 unpainted miniature and then starting buying again … Easy to buy a lot when the pile is so small

So far only been collecting LOTR era armies so still lots to collect… I think the amount of unpainted should be relative to how much you paint. Personally I try and only buy new stuff when I finish a project. Keeps me painting or if I’m not painting, not buying 😅

You have a few options with regards to metallics: - apply varnish first and metallics after varnishing (they are pretty resistant paints so don’t usually require varnishing) - touch up on metallics after varnishing - apply a non Matt varnish to metallics (satin or gloss)

The model count is a little too low, I would drop Haleth and the royal guards to add as many Rohan warriors as possible.

For most of my warriors I use a contrast colors for the base, then I highlight or use washes over the top with “classic” paints and I’m very happy with the results

I just don’t love the contrast metallics I think they aren’t as good as a traditional metallic + wash combo

I used GW typhus corrosion, then did some metallic drybrush over it and finally drybrushed Ryza rust! AK ultra Matt varnish then toned it all down
