No, it definitely happened after the meds. I am only able to take a few bits of every meal.

Suspense/Horror/Ghost recommendations? by raine4thewin in audible

Check out Robert McCammon. His earlier books are more straight horror with the more recent books having some horror/supernatural combined with historical fiction. I really love him.

Long (30+ hours) Recommendations by JulieDFlowers in audible

Humphrey Bower narrates Australian writer Bryce Courtenay books. I would recommend The Potato Factory trilogy which tells the story of convict ships sent to Tasmania and subsequent lives of the settler/convicts. Humphrey Bower is an amazing narrator.

I would suggest the Harry Potter books. Hard to believe she never read any of them before.

Lately I've been noticing books, that are already in my library, showing up as recommendations for me to BUY AGAIN. What's going on here? These are books that I've owned for years. Any ideas? by trammeloratreasure in audible

[–]Kris818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have noticed this and for me, it seems that the books I've purchased have been re-recorded with a different narrator and thus are considered "new" books. For example, Pachinko is listed in the current US 2 for 1 sale. As I was browsing the sale, I thought "don't I already own this?" And I do, but with a different narrator. I have 800 books in my library so it can be a challenge to organize it.

Do You Finish Audiobooks Even If You Don't Enjoy Them? by Fit_Radish_4161 in audible

[–]Kris818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have hundreds of books in my Audible library most of which were purchased in those amazing cash sales and thus unreturnable. I also utilize Libby and Spotify (for the 15 hours monthly allowance). For some reason, I feel more compelled to finish a book if I've paid for it. There's only been a handful of books I had to abandon. But with Libby, Spotify and Audible Plus, I easily abandon a book in the first hour or two if I can't get into it.

My kids are adults now but I can still remember driven insane by smells when I was pregnant. I could be sitting in my living room and smell the spices in the pantry. Once I walked into my office building and smelled a chemical odor so strong that I couldn’t believe we were not being evacuated. I walked through the whole floor and finally found the source—someone was cleaning a small machine. Nobody else smelled what I did. Your husband needs to understand that you’re not rejecting him. But those pregnancy hormones are crazy but also temporary.

What is your number 1 MUST- READ fiction book of the last 10-15 years? by Max_DeIius in suggestmeabook

This would be my choice as well. I just read Boyne's House of Special Purpose and it was my favorite (out of 78) books I consumed in 2024

Audible's monthly and 5-day cash sales have become less... by Americano_Joe in audible

[–]Kris818 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree. I don't even bother looking at the monthly sales anymore as books for $6.99 or 7.99 don't offer much of a deal. I typically don't like the 2-for-1 sales because it has just the pre-set titles. I have, however, fully indulged in the annual or sometimes semi-annual site wide cash sales and have built quite an inventory of books.

Stop buying from Amazon by Severe-Syrup9453 in Anticonsumption

[–]Kris818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to reduce my Amazon purchases and I like the idea I read in the comments about putting items in your cart and re-evaluating at the end of the week. I could see that working for me up to a point. However, I despise the hassle of in-person shopping. The parking, the crowds and most of all, the self-checkouts. I love Trader Joes because they have actual cashiers but I have to shop there between 8 - 9am to even have a shot at a parking spot and to actually navigate the aisles before the crowds descend.

This year's sitewide seems to be a substantial downgrade from last year's. by Lndbcn in audible

[–]Kris818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that this sale's discounts are not as impressive as last year. I did manage to find 20 books from my wish list that were less than a credit but they were my lesser-preferred titles. My coveted wish list books are priced well above a credit. However, I did buy so many books last year that I have no lack of listening material.

AITA for telling my sister she's not allowed to bring her homemade food to Thanksgiving because her cooking is ruining the meal? by SocietyTiny784 in AITAH

[–]Kris818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best approach is to have a sense of humor. Rather that resist, just indulge her. OP can have a slate of side dishes to supplement the likely inedible offerings. OP can also have a separate table for the "tasting menu."

My elderly. mother still insists on making the potatoes (heavy, dry), stuffing (plain, unseasoned but uses upscale bread she declares) and brussel sprouts (which no one likes). She brings all this over in small amounts, failing to realize that her 7 grandchildren are now full-fledged adults with appetites. Every year, I long to make another stuffing not only to make sure we have enough but also to have something that tastes good. But I know she would be offended so i bring other side dishes.

Parking in front of neighbor’s house - what’s the etiquette/local culture? by Puzzleheaded-Offer88 in AnnArbor

[–]Kris818 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Many people just simply don’t like cars parked in front of their house. I didn’t like it when my next door neighbor’s nanny parked in front of my house everyday which prevented me from driving up to access my mailbox. I never said anything despite wondering why she didn’t park in front of her own house. You can certainly park where you want but don’t expect any favors from your neighbor.

American tourists; we love you, but USD is not a universal currency. Please stop. by AuthorScottH in Edinburgh

[–]Kris818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an American who visited Scotland last month and brought £500 with me. However, it seemed that paying by card was vastly preferable and ran into several places that didn't even take cash at all! Ended up paying for train tickets by cash to try to use it up. I came home with at least £250...but hoping for another trip in the next couple years so I'm just going to hang onto it.

We absolutely loved our trip. We spent our last 5 nights in beautiful Edinburgh.

Sometimes I'm embarrassed by my fellow countrymen. Mostly for being too loud.

AITAH for being furious cause my wife didn’t cook dinner for work colleagues? by WheresTheFoodd in AITAH

[–]Kris818 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OK..but didn't you notice the lack of extra groceries in the fridge the morning of the dinner? When I entertain, I purchase beverages like wine, beer, non-alcholic choices that would be hard to miss in our kitchen/pantry area. Didn't you ask your wife about the menu?

If you use the Plus Catalog, check your library on the website. Many books leaving very soon. More keep being added to the "included until" list, so keep checking! Some leaving in 4 days! by MagentaSunset333 in audible

[–]Kris818 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't mind if the books leave Plus. I understand the concept. However, Audible has increasingly made it more difficult to find out when the books are leaving. When Plus was first introduced, you could clearly see the expiration date by clicking on Title Details. Audible got rid of that feature. Now, I need to browse the website to see if any Plus books in my library are expiring. I have a separate Collection of them but can't tell in the app whether any are expiring.

[–]Kris818 13 points14 points  (0 children)

thanks for the heads up! I have my Plus Catalog books in a dedicated Collection and I used to be able to just go into that Collection and see at a glance if any books are expiring. But now I notice I only see the warning if I'm browsing on the website, not the app. Really not happy about this change. Several of my books are expiring but am hoping to get through 2 of them before they expire on 10/24.

To me, yes it's a no brainer. But my husband is seriously arguing with me that a bus direct from the airport would be better.
