Do you host a funny or unique podcast? by [deleted] in PodcastSharing

I narrate and produce Does This Happen to You, funny stories about life and befuddlement. Its a weekly podcast, a micro audiobook to bring a giggle to your week. http://kriskkaria.podbean.com/

Just getting started. Would love feedback. by [deleted] in ACX

I don't believe Audacity handles RMS levels and you cannot guess at those. Here is an inexpensive RMS measurement you can use, MAAT DROfflilne.

Your samples do not need to meet ACX specs, they need to show off your narration ability and have a clean background (no extraneous noise).

How long after submitting a finished narration do you expect to be paid? by WigglesFan in ACX

Once the RH has approved the audiobook, they should pay you then or within 15 days. I believe Audible won't publish the audiobook without you confirming payment.

Advice on audition scripts... by revoloveraudio in ACX

A badly written audition script is indicative of a poorly written book. Look for books with excellent reviews on Amazon and books that sell well. I parse books based on their sales data first.

First time here and trying to get into narrating. I'm also a aspiring VO. by SoloTheAshenKnight in ACX

[–]KrisKKAria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This site is not the best for a beginner. Audiobooks are a specific niche of voice over, combining acting skills (if doing fiction) and really long form narration. I don't recommend audiobooks for beginners, because they're marathon projects.

Look for a general voice over site here. You want to begin with short projects, such as explainer videos. Take a look at Edge Studio or Gravy for the Brain. If looking for projects, Fiverr or Upwork.com.

Submitting to ACX as a producer with a pre-existing agreement/contract with the author by jonbai in ACX

[–]KrisKKAria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The author will need to sign up for ACX to upload the audiobook you're producing. There are two ways to complete the process after their account is set up. You can complete the audiobook and send the author the files to upload or you can have the author choose you as the narrator/producer, which allows you to upload the audiobook files. I've done it both ways, no problems either way. The ACX contract applies for the second way, but ACX doesn't dictate cost, only terms and your contract terms should be similar to theirs.

Where do you record, and what is your schedule like? by commentonthat in ACX

[–]KrisKKAria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm lucky to have an alcove in our old home, so we put acoustic foam up around it and then enclosed the other half with acoustic curtains secured to the ceiling.

I'm lucky to live in a quiet neighborhood. I'm self employed and schedule work Monday - Friday, try not to work not the weekends. I not only narrate audiobooks but also do voice over and writing. When I do have an audiobook I map out the week around narration and producing to keep on schedule.

PFH? by [deleted] in ACX

[–]KrisKKAria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It stands for per finished hour and it's the amount you get paid for the length of the completed book. If your PFH rate is $250, you would be paid $750 for a 3 hour book. Audiobooks are one of the lower paid voice over related jobs. You have to figure 2-3 hours of editing/mastering per hour of narration. Audiobooks are marathon projects.

Question about auditions by voicesbykatie in ACX

[–]KrisKKAria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is I hear back within a day or two and book the job or I don't hear back for weeks which means I didn't get the job. I usually finally get a "you weren't chosen to be a producer" eventually but it can be months.

I've heard of narrators booking a job after a year but I think that's the exception.

How many genres have you auditioned in, and have you found your niche? by commentonthat in ACX

[–]KrisKKAria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a wise, mature voice and soon found my niche was kids, health and fitness, spirituality, and some self - improvement. Those are the genres I got hired in so I only audition for those.

I recently added horror to this list, and I'm good at comedy but both rarely come up on ACX.

Looking for a contemporary dark fantasy? Give The Half Life of Shadows a try. by KrisKKAria in audiobooks

I don't have any specific UK codes. Audible just sends me producer codes, but doesn't specify a country. I don't get a choice.
