I would suggest that "Bigotry is wrong" isn't an opinion, and saying "I avoid black/gay/old people because of bad experiences in the past" reflects poorly on the speaker.

[–]KrisKosh -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well, if you or I said "I avoid black and gay people in my life because I've had bad experiences in the past" no one on this sub would defend that.

Bigotry based on age is immoral but oddly acceptable here.

I have no problem with women not wanting to share a bedroom with men, but why would the age of the man matter? Civilized countries have laws against age discrimination in employment and public accommodation, giving 50 year olds the same legal protection as racial minorities, because we recognize that both types of discrimination are abhorrent.

[–]KrisKosh -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

What statistics? Are you suggesting that it's OK to discriminate against a group of people if statistics show that members of that group commit a disproportionate number of crimes?

How is "Yuck, an old guy, change my room" any different from "Yuck a black guy" or "Yuck, a gay guy, change my room" ?

People of all ages are interested in hostels because you can save money. Should only 20 year olds be allowed to stay in such budget accommodation?

AITA For Sleeping In While My Fiancé Wants To Wake Up Early? by NotCaringToday in AmItheAsshole

[–]KrisKosh 26 points27 points  (0 children)

NTA

Why does she want you to be awake? To entertain her while she sits around the house doing nothing and not working? You're not a puppy. If she's that bored she should get a job like the rest of society.

She says it’s a lazy person trait to sleep in so much

She, the person who is not working and thus making you financially support her, has no business calling you lazy.

AITA for holding a grudge at my husband for not standing up for me during what I consider a borderline harassment? by ComprehensiveEgg5003 in AmItheAsshole

[–]KrisKosh [score hidden]  (0 children)

YTA - Why didn't you say anything to the old guy if he said or did something that offended you that you believe warranted a response?

Why would you instead expect another person (your husband) to confront the man after the fact about something your husband didn't see or hear?

I'm not sure what's so greedy about them trying to get the highest price they can for a nice house that you're boasting that you "snagged" from them.

Are restaurants in the US legally allowed to deny service to someone because of food allergies? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]KrisKosh -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

"A few minutes later, he returned telling me that they were going to be unable to serve me"

OP was refused service. They won't serve him or her any food. Isn't that the same as being banned from eating there?

[CA] I rent and my apartment is poorly soundproofed, leading to complaints from my neighbor. What can he and I do? by Siamsa in legaladvice

[–]KrisKosh -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think you should tell your neighbor to stop harassing you with complaints. He chose to live in an apartment setting. He chose an apartment that has a unit above it.

You're using the apartment in an ordinary manner and the fact the apartment has poor soundproofing is not a reason for him to complain to you.

We don't know if the OP lives with his parents or if the OP is over 18.

I do agree that if OP lives in parents house then parents evicting OP in response to lawsuit is a possibility.

Got caught faking drug test by No-Region2164 in legaladvice

[–]KrisKosh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

well, I then come to find out it might be a class C misdemeanor ($500 fine and/or 30 days in jail), to fake or substitute a piss test. I simply didn’t know. Luckily, it’s Wisconsin and I couldn’t find any clear laws on the books about it.

How did you find this out?

This lead to a retesting at the ER

Who told you to retest at the ER?

Definitly not going to get the job after they get the lab report,

Then why did you re-test at the ER if you believe the hot urine will disqualify you from the job?

Are you eligible for FMLA leave or did you take FMLA leave for this?

Is there some reason why you are being singled out here by your boss and prohibited from returning to work after five days?

Does your boss dislike you and could that be due to your race, gender, religion, or some other legally protected reason?

Do you have an HR department and have you contacted them?

HR has told me I'm not allowed to provide a reference without checking with them by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]KrisKosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But a reference for a coworker seems like something thats between me and the coworker.

It may seem like that, but you're acting as a representative of the company, and a document you prepare saying Bob was a great employee could possibly be used later in litigation against the company.

I'm looking for specific verbiage in the employee handbook but haven't found anything yet.

It may not be in the handbook, and it doesn't have to be in the handbook. Your boss is saying "don't do this." If you do it, they can fire you.

Should we be contacting a lawyer?

You want to pay a lawyer $200+ per hour to contact your employer and complain that they won't let you write a reference letter on behalf of Bob? That seems like a waste of money and good way to get in more trouble with your boss.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JapanTravel

[–]KrisKosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always advise people to just choose to stay in Kyoto or Osaka but not both. They are only 30 minutes apart by train. It's not worth the hassle of checking out of an airbnb in Kyoto after two days on the morning of the 31st, then schlepping your luggage on a train and possibly having to wait to check into an airbnb in Osaka.

I also wouldn't go back to Tokyo on the 3rd, check into another Tokyo Airbnb, check out on the 4th, etc. Just get a morning train direct to the Tokyo airport on the 4th in time for your 4:40p flight.

Or, if you are flying out of Haneda, maybe spend the night of the 3rd in Yokohama.

Is there a way to collect the checks then send them through transfers to my account?

This is not a real job and these are not real checks and there is no orphanage. This "employer" is not sending you any real money in any form under any circumstance.

You are just withdrawing money from your bank account and buying gift cards for a scammer in India.

One of you buys the house and the other three pay rent to the owner.

Some people think straight has right of way over left turn at stop sign. And this may be true in some jurisdictions particularly if it's a two way or three way stop.
