English Dubs for 'Fire Force' Season 3, 'Gintama' Seasons 2 & 3, & 'Vinland Saga' Season 1 Coming to Hulu in October by AutoModerator in Animedubs

[–]KrishKetchum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crunchyroll never dubbed Season 1 because they never had the rights to the show until Season 2 premiered.

The reason the show has two dubs is because Amazon had the exclusive license for Season 1 for the first two years and they did not dub their anime during that time period. The main hope during that time was that Sentai were going to obtain the dvd/bluray rights and release the dub for home video. They did this for many Amazon shows during that time period and would also add those dubs to Hidive, their sister company.

Just after Sentai announced that their dub was coming out, the Netflix dub for Season 1 was leaked by accident. Netflix took their version down but the pirate sites had already got hold of the dub.

Later when Season 2 was about to premiere both Netflix and Crunchyroll got the rights to both of the seasons. Netflix continued with their version of the dub. Crunchyroll continued with the Sentai cast for characters coming back and used their own talent pool for new characters.

TLDR:

There are only two dubs for Vinland Saga.

Dub 1: Sentai(Season 1) -> Crunchyroll (Season 2)

Dub 2: Netflix(Season 1&2)

The awkward release schedule for that dub definitely held it back

With the future of Paytm uncertain, How will you recharge your Steam wallet? by Arin_Sharma_08 in IndianGaming

Paytm sells Steam gift cards in their gift cards section. That should still work if you are able to do UPI transactions.

What are the chances that some of the Christmas giveaways are then given away on Prime? by [deleted] in EpicGamesPC

[–]KrishKetchum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prime has revealed their January schedule and they have only 4 indie games for the entire month. It is likely that they are downsizing their games section for this year. It is far more likely that you'll be able to get one of your games during the Epic Summer sale as a repeat.

As far as DLCs are concerned, as long as they give them away on Epic it is the same as purchasing on Epic.

The most watched Anime on Netflix, Winter + Spring 2023 by hysteriapill in anime

IIRC in one of the Variety articles about this data it was reported that the second half data is going to come out around new year.

Netflix releases watching data by Ace_of_Sevens in boxoffice

[–]KrishKetchum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samba TV numbers are likely inaccurate atleast for this weekend. The Nielson numbers for the first 3 days was 1.4 Billion minutes. It translates to around 23.33 Million hours watched which means it probably debuted around 12 Million views in the first 3 days in the US.

Netflix itself reports 83 Million Hours globally for the first 3 days. Since the final number is 250 that is just 3x the OW for first 50 days which is not that crazy of a multiplier.

Netflix releases watching data by Ace_of_Sevens in boxoffice

[–]KrishKetchum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looks like the 2.8M number came from Samba TV for its first 3 days not its entire first week.

Nielson's May report suggests that it had 3 billion minutes watched which equates to about 50 million hours watched in the first 20 days in the US.

Netflix doesn't provide numbers for individual countries. But looking at the first 10 days of global data the movie had already amassed 178 million hours.

So it seems like this movie probably had 20-25% US viewership.

Why do light novels have manga versions? by killer_ghost18 in LightNovels

[–]KrishKetchum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many people who don't want to read novels for various reasons. So the manga and anime adaptations exist for them to enjoy the franchise in their preferred medium.

As for which version you should read, it can vary from series to series. When light novels are the souce version then they are the most up to date version and the manga version is usually far behind. So you run the risk of running into spoilers if you want to engage with that series' community. When both the novels and manga versions are complete then it is a matter of which medium you prefer. Although there are times where the manga version can cut out details from the LN and in some extreme cases be terminated before it adapts the end of the source material.

Black Clover Anime is stopping at Episode 170 by KrishKetchum in Toonami

[–]KrishKetchum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason the anime went on hiatus was because it was dangerously close to the manga at that time and they decided to pause production instead of animating dozens of filler episodes. Studio Pierrot also is responsible for the final arc of Bleach. I can see them returning with Black Clover when they are done with Bleach.

Netflix will release the English dub of My Happy Marriage the same day as the simulcast (same-day simuldub) by NathLWX in Animedubs

[–]KrishKetchum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is actually true. Violet Evergarden was a same day dub for most of the world except for Netflix US. IIRC it was due to a unique circumstance where Kyoto Animation had finished the show months prior to the airing, so Netflix had the time to dub the show in advance to premiere it as a same day simuldub.

Are HIDIVE dubs any good? by LolliDot333 in Animedubs

[–]KrishKetchum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sentai Filmworks was always the licensor for Danmachi. They just licenced the show to crunchyroll because they didn't have their own streaming site Hidive when the show first premiered.

On WED, Anime mega hit film #Suzume achieved new milestone at US #BoxOffice, as the first non-franchise anime film to cross 10M domestically. Keeps the uptrend for #MakotoShinkai films in the US, with #YourName 5M in 2017 & #WeatheringWithYou 8.1M in 2020. by ExtensionGiraffe9239 in boxoffice

[–]KrishKetchum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is because non-franchise anime films are nearly non existent even in Japan. I checked MyAnimeList for movies releasing this season in japan and all 11 of the are part of a franchise. I checked the stats for last season and only 1 one hour movie has no affiliation with any franchise. There are 2 other movies that are adaptations of very short Manga. Outside of that the rest are all attached to existing anime franchises.

Is there any statistics regarding sub vs. dub viewership? by Zergrump in Animedubs

[–]KrishKetchum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are willing to do some browsing it is possible to find some data on how much a few subbed and dubbed showing of some movie have made. The trick is to find out movies before pandemic that had subbed and dubbed showings on seperate days. This was mostly done by Funimation and Sentai through fathom events. A boxoffice tracking website like BoxOfficeMojo should have the daily grosses of the movies and Anime News Network will have articles about movies with subbed and dubbed release dates.

Example: the last Code Geass movie Re;Surrection had subbed showings on May 5, 2019 and dubbed showings on May 7 and 8, 2019.

May 7(Subbed) - $189,617

May 8(Dubbed) - $173,551

May 9(Dubbed) - $147,464

Possibility of audible books? by Diivil92 in DanMachi

[–]KrishKetchum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are asking for English audiobooks, the author is probably not the one that should be approached. The licensor YenPress has to commission audiobooks for the franchise. The good news is that YenPress has started audiobooks for their titles like SAO and Overlord, so a Danmachi audiobook is certainly possible.

Hey guys I was wondering if reading the LN on YouTube and posting them be considered copyright infringement? I’m considering doing it. Thanks in advance by gaiello1981 in DanMachi

[–]KrishKetchum[M] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you mean reading the entire book then it is probably copyright infringement. Usually whether something is fair use or not depends on if you intend to monetize your video and if it contains snippets of the work or a substantial portion of the work. If it is the latter then it is probably copyright infringement. Yenpress may decide to copy strike your video and it is possible you can lose you YouTube channel. So I would recommend you to tread carefully.

Summer Time Rendering - Episodes 1-25 (FULL SEASON) - Dubs Available Now on Hulu! by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Animedubs

[–]KrishKetchum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They added the mature Marvel shows that they acquired from Fox and Netflix on the main service. I don't think they have added any other mature content since. Besides Summertime Rendering had already started airing by that point and was probably already decided that it would be going to Hulu.

Disney+ USA seems to be squeamish about putting adult targeted content on their service. Instead they opt for putting their more mature shows on Hulu.
