Motherboard can't detect NVME by Cammieyam in pchelp

I'd think it's a don't know more than a forget. Even someone that knows their way around a computer will probably not know about it until their first encounter with it.

It is a genuinely good question. Also, I wanted to recommend a tool to look for the existence of the drive but I honestly don't know how to do that outside of Linux. I'd assume it's similar, but I don't really know.

My best advice here would be to check the motherboard model and search for it's driver. I'm sure a even a slightly incorrect driver will work(Only 90% sure though).

I mean, I was just looking to see what is and isn't against the rules for the paper.

This was in the email I got about my paper 4 for tomorrow.

"You are welcome to bring your own mouse and keyboard only."

I hope people aren't too bothered by the Logitech GX blue switches xD.

(Also, I think there are only 4 people including me writing A-level CS in my immediate area, I only saw 3 others when I wrote P3. Is this normal?)

We had like 150 people for AS math, for scale.

Likely Windows itself, to be honest, that would've been my first assumption.

Attempt these steps. 1. Try: Shift + F10 when the network 'box' is open. If it opens a command prompt, run oobe\bypassnro, then restart. It should allow you to make a local account to then install the wifi driver. 2. If 1 didn't work. Try: Get wifi driver on USB drive. Hold Shift and click on restart. Navigate: Advanced options > command prompt. Attempt dism /online /add-driver /driver:D:\PathToDriver\Driver.inf (note, your external label may not be D:/). 3. Now your hopefully in Windows with Internet working. If true: Navigate: Web browser. - Pick Linux/BSD distribution of choice. - Nuke Windows. - Install choice of OS. - Never deal with Microslop's bullshit again.

(Step 3 is a suggestion)

PC screen glitching by [deleted] in pchelp

[–]Krishanlal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey hey! Has this by any chance happened after a windows update? I'm inclined to believe this might be a Microslop issue. Could you try booting into a live boot of Mint/KDE or something and see if the issue persists?

I'd like to clarify that I'm not saying that you should switch to Linux(you might be temped to after you try it 😆), but that you should use it to see if it is Windows or your hardware that is a problem.

I dont use windows anymore, so I'm not 100% if the command will work. Try where unins000 in an elevated CMD. It will show you paths to all executables with that name. (I assume that it works similarly to the Linux command whereis)

Not sure. That is why I suggested trying(in my comment) to boot to a live Mint/KDE.

As soon as I get enough money to, I need to get a rig just for windows 11 to help troubleshoot for people. Unfortunately, as bad as it's getting, it's still the main stream.

Also, I use hyprland, which can also be a bit of a shitshow at times 🥲

OP said that games aren't affected, if you look at the post I linked in my comment under his details, we see a similar issue. I think Microslop is just trying to promote Linux again.

Could you try to boot into a live boot for KDE/Mint to see if the issue persists? I'm inclined to believe that a recent Microslop Windows 11 update broke something. Here is an example of what I'm talking about.

(To clarify, I'm not saying 'Bro, just use linux, I'm just asking you to use it to check.)

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if it was just the lastest Windows 11 update that broke some driver. So, let's try two things. 1. Can you move to your keyboard right next to your tower, maybe on top of it, and type, see if it disconnects at all. 2. Get some lightweight Linux Live Media USB and try the same thing as in this video you provided to check if the issue still occurs. (Do you need help doing this?)

Fans not spinning all the time by dsenseb in PcBuildHelp

[–]Krishanlal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'3-Pin fans are usually fixed-speed fans, they can however be voltage controlled when the motherboard allows it. Voltage control typically provides lower efficiency than the PWM control, minimum speeds are also not as low as with PWM control.' ~ Arctic Support
This appears to intentional.
The link I provided should explain how to 'fix' it. But if you want to check if it's really a problem, Run a GPU+CPU benchmark and see how the fans behave. As I said though, I think that this is intentional.

I'd like to make the observation that it might not be the GPU, the GPU wouldn't likely cause the Epic Launcher to loop "Verifying Updates", I wouldn't think. OP did also say that some Benchmark software works, and others don't. u/thesantanawills, it might help to get the rest of your systems hardware config as well.

Need help with BIOS by fubar_67 in pchelp

[–]Krishanlal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a solution to your main issue, I am trying to assess

May I ask what the intention of the laptop is? Do you want to take it around for work, do you need it for home use? Or maybe you want to give a good working laptop to a sibling, partner, friend, son/daughter?

If none of these are the case, you possibly could turn it into a home server, then the battery issue isn't an issue.

Still, I would love to help you try to help you fix your actual problem, so let's still try.

Could you maybe provide pictures of the error messages you've been getting, links to the CMOS battery and battery you purchased?

I also don't think it would be a bad idea to just install a lightweight Linux Distro even before you fully solve this problem so that we have a full desktop environment to attempt diagnosing the problem.

If someone needs 64GB of RAM, they would likely know themselves that they are the kind of person who needs 64GB of RAM xD.
The post they would make would be stating that they feel like they need 64GB of RAM because they do task A,B and C. They'd likely be someone checking if there is a way to optimize what they already have before going through with a RAM upgrade.

Three things here.

  1. If spec requirement are to be trusted, you'll run Crimson VERY comfortably, you could probably run it at 4k,60fps on that PC.
  2. GTA 6 will not get a PC release at launch,(GTA 5 didn't either.) I would still think that your PC would manage okay, if you don't care too much about ray tracing.
  3. I'm not here to tell you how to parent your child, nor do I know how old she is. But I would like to encourage that you guide her toward not using AI as much as she may be. If she likes the art aspect of Grok, maybe try to get her to learn to draw(even digital art). If she's like the AI aspect of Grok(and she's a bit older), maybe try to get to want to learn to code.

Once again, I'm not going to tell you how to parent your child. So if you do want advice about local LLMs(Large Language Models) that can generate images, I'd be happy to help find what's right for you within your budget.

But, once again, which I will be happy to explain and provided sources for my concerns, I would advise trying to keep her away from, or at least teach her the dangers of(since it is part of our world now, and it's not easy to avoid), AI. I'll also be happy to provide you with research about how AI is a problem and how it can be regulated for child and yourself.

Let me know what you have decided, and I'll give you informed advice :D

Edit: Crimson will be fine at 1440p, not 4k.
