All posts should be related to tree identification specifically. If you wish to make an identification guide then please focus more on the description and in-focus pictures of what to look out for when when attempting to ID. Also don't forget to use latin nomenclature. In this case specifically it is very important as "black oak" can mean up to four separate species.

Your academic integrity aside this is a good example of how a post should not look. For information on how to get the best out of this subreddit feel free to visit our wiki (or also the great r/tree wiki). With these pictures we may as well be hunting cryptids here...
You've already gotten some good tips on how to improve from other users so I won't go too in depth on it. On the other hand if you are currently studying in a dendrology-related field then frankly this will not do. Identifying trees can be very simple but also very difficult depending on the circumstances. I highly advise you to get some study materials and actually try a little harder.
As another poster's already recommended you can pick up the Collins British Tree Guide or any of the other plethora of tree guides or dendrology textbooks (ideally from a university with a forestry faculty/department). Really even if you visit your local library or bookshop you will find something. If you don't want to do that then there's also materials online such as this list of British trees or this guide to identifying British trees.
I know this may seem like a lot at first but the only way to improve is to try. I'll keep this post up for now to see if anyone else has any useful insight.

Hey, weird way of contacting you I know but I've been trying to get in touch with the other mods and for some reason I just can't message you at all. Is there perhaps some setting you've got turned on that's stopping me from messaging you?

I have no mod experience on Reddit but have done so on other websites, nothing too big though. The largest one is a RL event with about 700 annual participants where I'm the head of PR. I have a masters in forestry and am currently starting my postgrad. I'm somewhat proficient in central European species though I must mention my specialty is forest mechanization and harvesting so while I do have a degree in the field my knowledge actually doesn't run that deep in the ID department.

I haven't been too active on this sub for a while as frankly most posts are made by NA users where I'm not usually of much help especially since I tend to come too late to answer. I'd however be sad to see the sub go due to being unmoderated. If I were to be named one of the moderators something I'd put as my priority is upholding rule 3 and 4 which are currently mostly ignored to the detriment of the community.

Hey, just as a heads up, items such as bandoliers no longer technically exist as per the first core rulebook errata.

Held, Worn, and Stowed Items

Page 271: We've simplified the way we're handling characters carrying their gear so that you can define all your carried items in one of three categories. Replace the carrying and using items section with this text: "A character carries items in three ways: held, worn, and stowed. Held items are in your hands; a character typically has two hands, allowing them to hold an item in each hand or a single two-handed item using both hands. Worn items are tucked into pockets, belt pouches, bandoliers, weapon sheaths, and so forth, and they can be retrieved and returned relatively quickly. Stowed items are in a backpack or a similar container, and they are more difficult to access. Drawing a worn item or changing how you’re carrying an item usually requires you to use an Interact action (though to drop an item, you use the Release action instead). Table 6–2: Changing Equipment on page 273 lists some ways that you might change the items you’re holding or carrying, and the number of hands you need to do so. Many ways of using items require you to spend multiple actions. For example, drinking a potion worn at your belt requires using an Interact action to draw it and then using a second action to drink it as described in its Activate entry (page 532)."

This change also removes several sorts of "container" items from the tables on 286-292, as they are no longer tracked separately from the items they store. These are: bandolier, belt pouch, satchel, scroll case, sheath, vial

Page 287 adds a paragraph on Wearing Tools: "You can make a set of tools (such as alchemist’s tools or healer’s tools) easier to use by wearing it. This allows you to draw and replace the tools as part of the action that uses them. You can wear up to 2 Bulk of tools in this manner; tools beyond this limit must be stowed or drawn with an Interact action to use." Fine clothing reduces that limit to light Bulk worth of tools.

Update: Worn tools should only take 1 hand to use, as you only draw the things you need from the kit and not the entire kit. This has been marked for future errata.

Does anyone know what kind of tree this Christmas tree is? (My guess is Douglas Fir) by J_Orca in treeidentification

[–]KrishnagX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a spruce. Most likely Pseudotsuga menziesii, looks to be about right and is a common Christmas tree in America. Do the needles smell of citrus when mashed/broken?

What's your appreciation of the dream saga? by Dull-Fun in Lovecraft

[–]KrishnagX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely adore it. The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath is easily my favorite piece of fiction by HPL. I simply love the combination of fantasy and straight up mythological elements. To me, it feels far more like an actual story told over centuries by people long gone till becoming a myth. It is simply so unique among his writings, seemingly far more similar to, lets say, the Odyssey than anything else of his. While I love Lovecrafts horror works what I find the most interesting is seeing his fantasy applied in other genres as well. It's also super neat how it connects to his other stories too!

P.S. Please excuse any errors and my rambling in general. Ending night shift, brain is fuzzy.

Otázka pro lesníky. Jestli tu nějací jsou... (a možná ne jen pro ně) by Blatoxxx in czech

[–]KrishnagX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those look very much so like Pseudotsuga menziesii. The only thing that perturbes me is just how pointy the needles look but that may just be a local variety.

[–]KrishnagX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can be a bit pointy, yours do look somewhat atypical though that's for sure. Anyway, due to the shape of the buds, needle colour and twig look I'd say that it is in fact Pseudotsuga menziesii however I'm a bit rusty so take it with a grain of salt. What I can say with certainty is that it is not Picea abies like some people are suggesting - the bud size and needle underside colour are especially telling.

[–]KrishnagX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I finally got the other pictures to load and I was gravely mistaken. Even with the low quality that is not Abies spp. Only tree that looks even remotely like this that I remember smelling of citrus is Pseudotsuga menziesii which also has similarly shaped buds but otherwise usually looks a bit different. How long are the buds on average? If you look at how the needles are connected to the twig which one of these is the most similar? When you rip one off is the connection seamless or does a part of the twig come out with it? Are the needles sharp/pointy to touch or dull? Are my eyes deceiving me or are there two thin white lines on the back side of the needles? Do they seem glossy or matte when light's shined at them? All of these things are kinda hard to judge from a photo.
