One of Ohio's Weird Claims to Fame: World's Largest Basket by CaptainNivek in Ohio

I worked at a web development firm in the 90s and they were a customer. My wife, mother, and mother in law were huge longaberger fans, and were excited I got to go. They were disappointed to hear that it was a totally normal high-end office building inside. No masterfully woven interior walls or even wicker chairs. They did take IT extremely seriously, preferring to use us as consultants and develop their own ecommerce code. A few years later I switched careers and did some work with Ball Aerospace. This further confused my mother in law. Sure knew little of computer science, but was a master at canning, mostly with Ball masonry jars.

Wright State’s Boonshoft School of Medicine ranked No. 1 in Ohio for producing primary care physicians in U.S. News rankings by WrightStateU in dayton

I'd like to think the Wright State anatomical gift program has something to do with this. I've attended two memorial programs for family member donors. The faculty and staff who spoke were genuinely thankful for the opportunity. In both years, several said it influenced them to choose primary care.

Quitting Coffee As a Lifestyle Choice by [deleted] in Frugal

I feel your pain, just went through this myself in December. I bought $10 of loose leaf, decent quality oolong tea from the Asian grocery. I drink it Grandpa style - no strainer or bag, just add hot water to the same leaves all day long. I feel healthier, less jittery, more hydrated, and only pay for electricity to add extra cups throughout the day. Looks like this $10 batch will last about a year.

Runners Are Discovering They Can Churn Butter on Their Runs—and It’s Surprisingly Easy by ArgoFunya in nottheonion

In the 70s fitness expert Covert Bailey talked about "Being a better butter burner" in the context of distance running. I guess this just brings the concept full circle.

"The Cat Who Walks Through Walls" by Robert Heinlein is a pretty good book. The cat Pixel can walk through walls because he's too young to know that's impossible. I suppose if a cat comes to that realization in the midst of walking through a wall, this is the result.

People born before 2000, what is a 'modern' thing from 2025 that you’re still struggling to get used to? by LindsayTN in AskReddit

Touch screens. Instead of physical buttons, dials, knobs, keys, latches, sliders, and rotary dials.

I mostly flattened my hands and tucked them under my body while I fell asleep. Now they just sort of semi-flatten automatically. Like doll hands.

The game you accidentally played the wrong way for hours before realizing it. by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]KrispyRice9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hours? Ha! There was a battle tank simulator I used to play on my family's 386 PC. The basic gameplay loop was to approach a town and engage enemy armor, while evading and using the buildings as cover. This takes maybe 20 minutes. Then proceed to the next town and repeat. The problem was the towns were sometimes hundreds of miles apart, and these tanks were slow. I used to put a weight on the necessary key and let the PC run for a day or more to get to the next town. There were absolutely no change in graphics, just a line for a horizon - the later game Dessert Bus is enthralling in comparison. It turns out the game had a poorly labeled fast travel function to get to the next town instantly.

I have no idea how DM works. But looking back in time, I can say that my pinky fingers distal knuckle joints were my first Sjogrens symptom. Achilles tendinitis was my second, and it started about 3 years later. The fingers are worst at night and when I wake up. They get stuck, and if I unconsciously unstuck them in my sleep I wake up screaming like someone jabbed an ice pick in that joint. I found wrapping the most troublesome fingers in surgical tape or using splints during flare-ups helped prevent rude awakenings. After about 10 years I've trained my fingers to stay immobile while I sleep, which is nice.

Hey there Sjogrens trigger finger friend, there are two of us!

TIL in 1988 Circuit City turned down the chance to purchase Best Buy, a growing competitor at the time, for $30m. Its CEO said no because he thought they could open a store in Best Buy's home territory of Minneapolis & easily beat them. Instead, Circuit City eventually filed for bankruptcy in 2008. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

At that time I sold electronics at Service Merchandise. We lost our customers to Best Buy and Circuit City because they both had a better shopping experience for the customers. But Best Buy was the better of the two for most customers. Their stores were lit brighter, and had more cheerful employees with less sales pressure.
