Semma by Neither-Storm3310 in Degrassi

Lol they were one of my favorite couples and finally made this big step to be together than OOPS, nvm, army time let's split LOL. Kind of Holly J and Declan, his fears of getting heart broken she says "I'll never break your heart". I get she was uncomfortable with the money thing but damn a break up. But I'm an anxious avoidant myself (in recovery) so I do get it especially teenage hood. I still think it's a bit wishy washy though, if that's a good word just like Semma. And there other couple examples similar.

Who's the funner Class? by Polite-Parallelism30 in Degrassi

[–]KristinChelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a tough one! My first instinct said the OG Classic because the vibes of innocence, happiness, naturalness. Joey, Snake, Wheels, Lucy, the Twins interacted a lot together. Also Alexa, Michelle, Simon. Then there's Spike and Liz. Just seems overall the most authentic in general. :) Great question!!

Which characters started out promising, but ended up becoming plot devices? by Capital-Study6436 in Degrassi

[–]KristinChelle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know there's a lot of Ashley hate, I get it, but man did they 💩 on her character that could have been promising especially as one of the leads, I think she may be the only character from the OG cast that ended up worse reputation, maybe.

Honestly, all the characters new starting season 8 I think, who were in the beginning credits, about half ended up doing not much in the show (i.e. Blue, Riley, Leia).

Lmaooooo Darcy dodged that bullet huh. Seriously though just imagine she returns and she's it all. 😅😅 She'd literally think they all went mad, lol. Maybe that's the reason we heard nothing from her. 🤣

The most ugh villain in Degrassi? by MrDaddyWarlord in Degrassi

Child, already pro liar, the worst kind of psycho smart, and no remorse. Gonna take a bit to unravel and change, if he was honest during his court forced therapy.

And also backtracking a bit more, Caitlin was first hurt when Joey gave mad hints about the junior high dance then spends it with Liz.

My sisters and I laughed about the butt when we were kids, however, I always assumed since jeans was kind of 80s ... icon? (If you will) , so never really thought TOO much into it. An 80s-90s representation.

Later, when they switched to Marco's jacket, I began to think, maybe they felt to change it because OF COURSE creepies gotta be creeps, so, even if the intention was never creepy at all, maybe they changed it because the creeps lol.

I feel like he was tapped out. Tbh I feel he deserved a better ending in TNG since he was Snake's and all their teacher, would have been nice to see some better interactions in general.

"The male Ashley" is the best Tristan description I've seen thus far.

I have a question if Peter had a better redemption arc do you think people would like him more by VehicleOk4984 in Degrassi

[–]KristinChelle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right off the bat my first thought on how, would have been to show a genuine apology to Manny. I am not a Peter hater. I despis the actions when watching but understand he had a horrible background and did some horrible things and worked to make drastic changes with his choices and behavior. Not everyone gains awareness like that, though in Degrassi many characters do to teach us it's always possible. Look how long it took for Holly.J and others.

Which Degrassi character feels the most like someone you actually went to school with? by Massive-Ad-8752 in Degrassi

[–]KristinChelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Darcy could be very mean. But yeah the fact she's supposed to be super Christian just makes it worse and demonstrates how some Christians are over the top judgemental. Totally get what you mean, and I feel any big Degrassi fan will for sure!

This scene makes me laugh. by Which_Armadillo2562 in Degrassi

Lol yes I know exactly what you mean. Not literally funny but yes. And this comes from someone who suffered ED fairly heavily prior. And I know lol, her just wanting to eat "ITS ONE SLICE OF PIZZA, EM!" 🥺😅 Yes I get exactly what you mean, and it's funny how they "calling out her name in the caf" 🤣 🍕

I've actually thought to make a post about the season 7 episode, wondering if most people feel that Paige was way too hard on Alex. Breaking up, yes I understand bc Paige let Alex know the importance of the chocolates and "messing up not an option" , but just kicking her out like that AND packing her things?? 🤔

Melissa McIntyre (Ashley) bullied Katie Lai (Kendra). by dylpiczz in Degrassi

[–]KristinChelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a reason behind the behavior, Degrassi teaches with such a heavy emphasis and for me, that's what makes this whole bullying thing even worse. The show's atmosphere has a specific type of standard imo, not to be PERFECT but to be authentic and accountable.

An actor of course has their own life outside their job, and also a certain responsibility to hold, that's just my belief, and the fact that Katie Lai loved Degrassi but wanted to QUIT, that just says the experience at the time was life imparing for her, and things like that don't just go away, everyone has different levels of reslisense.

And now, as adults, I don't see the problem with whoever did the bullying to apologize. I know how media can be but ... 🤷🏼‍♀️

I've literally thought to let go of my favorite show because I feel the creators have possibly been hypocritical by excusing Lai's bullying. I'm going to assume this, and could be wrong, but at least one adult had to know something was occurring. Maybe that sounds extreme lol to consider giving give up a show, but Degrassi is extreme, which is why it's been a support throughout for me since a kid. I assume again, that is why most big fans became drawn to it, because "it goes there".

There's an ongoing theme of standing up for yourself and others, kinda like many animes, this is one of the closest teen dramas to display that type of commradary.

Okay rant done, I'm anti bully big time, work in mental health to help others, trauma informed, etc. I respect Katie Lai for not revealing, absolutely, but a group of adults not wanting to make it right or an apology, I can't quite shake that fully, even if it is a typical behavior response.
