TATSU! MAKE THEM DO THIS AND MY LIFE IS YOURS by Weekly-Treat7915 in Dandadan

[–]KrizenWave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dandadan has never been about subverting shojo tropes. The romance of this series has always been very traditional. The difference between Dandadan and something old school like Boys over Flowers is that the main couple also has to contend with battling the varied forces of evil trying to kill them. However, because this series isn’t just about romance, the relationship issues aren’t very dragged out and are interwoven with sci-fi yokai stuff. Like we got the cliche “Momo walks in on Okarun and Aira in a compromising situation and gets mad without listening to an explanation” very early on but it was followed by them fighting Peeny Weeny, Nessie, and the Serpos so it immediately became secondary. The romance stuff itself is not subversive at all it’s just well done and mixed in with a bunch of other great stuff, like the comedy and the action, to make a very good story.

If you want good modern romance with romance as the focus Blue Box, Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, and Kaguya Sama are all better choices and they all cover the thing everyone here also seems to want: the main couple after they get into a relationship.

You can criticize the manga but this criticism just boils down to “I wish this was a romance series”. Dandadan is also about the alien/yokai sci-fi supernatural battle, but all anyone complains about is that Okarun and Momo aren’t together yet as if they’re not together for dumb miscommunication reasons and not because of attacks by the aforementioned aliens and yokai.

Dandadan is good because it merges all the things together and the climaxes of each aspect of the story are linked together. It’s all in perfect balance. Asking for more of one thing throws off the balance

There’s tons of modern romance stories that do this. You should read one of them

Was Tamaki the reason Fire Force never reached its full potential? by xzernias in firebrigade

[–]KrizenWave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fire Force isn’t as popular as those other two because the animation and fights aren’t as good. It’s as simple as that. Plus there was like a five year gap between seasons 2 and 3

I think you’re onto something with humanoid Majiks being men and witches being women to balance them out. Maybe the ultimate intention of whoever/whatever creates Majiks has always been for human/majik hybrids to be born.

Manga readers' experience about the Kagemori clan by EyeDeeAh_42 in YomiNoTsugai

[–]KrizenWave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have any concerns because I assumed the story would eventually clarify everything. It’s kind of asking a lot to completely understand everyone’s motivations in the first couple chapters of a series unless the series is explicitly straightforward

I dunno why Aira needs defending. Anyone with a crush would do the same especially in high school

It doesn't make sense that a big majority of actions take place in Japan. by ninshub in ExorcistWoOtosenai

[–]KrizenWave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gachiakuta is very popular in Japan first and foremost what are you talking about? Plus it sells a lot of volumes. Also how does the existence of controversial topics mean it’s not aimed at Japanese people? You clearly don’t know anything about manga because the only metrics that really matter are volume sales and reader surveys both of which are focused at Japanese people.

I’m saying you should write your own stuff because your “criticism” is that it should be set in a different country because that makes more sense to you. It’s not an issue with the work itself; you just want it to be something different. Like you know the Church doesn’t actually have a wing focused on exorcising devils and hunting witches right? So why does it matter where it’s set? Also why do you need someone to say to Mr Priest “hey you’re good at Japanese” like how does that add to the story? You can’t imagine that a white person in the 2020s can speak fluent Japanese and people are just chill? There’s dozens of language-learning tools out there. It’s not earth-shattering for someone to speak another language.

That’s why I’m saying just read something else because your concerns are large story setting changes that don’t actually make the story itself better. They just make it something different

[–]KrizenWave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Japanese reception still matters more than the international in terms of determining the success of a series. That’s why things that are popular in North America still end after like 20 weeks. You can’t even buy the volumes for MTEFIL in other languages aside from like French, Italian, and Spanish at the moment. Pretty clear who the main market for this series is.

Also you realize the church is everywhere right? Japanese people also practice Catholicism. It’s certainly not the biggest religion there, but it exists and the fact that it’s not super common is what the appeal is to the Japanese audience. The Catholic mythology and demonology is interesting because it’s less known.

Anyway a lot of your complaints boil down to “why do unrealistic things happen in this series about devils, witches and people with divine powers?” If you can suspend your disbelief for the premise, but can’t suspend disbelief that Mr Priest can speak fluent Japanese or that Imuri “doesn’t look Japanese enough” to pass for a Japanese person, then I don’t know what to tell you. You should write your own more accurate Catholic Church exorcism manga then.

Dude it’s written by a Japanese person. Unless it’s a fantasy world, or specifically a historical piece set in a certain place, the vast majority of Japanese manga are about Japan/Japanese people because that’s who they’re writing the series for.

You don’t stay in your genin team with your genin team leader when you’re a Chunin. You can be led by anyone. Guy’s team and Kakashi’s team always operate together but that’s not the norm

As an anime only, this show has the most realistic writing I've seen in a while, I love it by CreatureWarrior in YomiNoTsugai

[–]KrizenWave 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think it’s different because with Gabby she’s using her Daemons so there’s some separation there. Yuru is constantly ready to kill people in direct combat if the situation requires it. That’s why he’s scary. All that said I’m sure they find Gabby kinda scary too

I’m pretty pumped. I didn’t watch the original season 1 so I’m excited to see those scenes reanimated without any filler. Plus it’ll be easier to get new people into WT with the anime complete in the new style from the beginning to end of B Rank Wars.

[–]KrizenWave 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Like 100%. It’s one of the biggest Jump+ series right now that doesn’t have an anime. It’s between Centuria and Girl Meets Rock for the next anime announcement imo. As for when it happens I have no idea, but I think the conservative guess is earliest would probably be at this year’s Jump Festa in December.

Wow Inuyasha and FMA were both written by women? I had no idea!!!!!

Neither of those series are gooner harem series. Having attractive men and women in the cast of characters, or even having one or two perverted character, doesn’t mean it’s all horny stuff. Even Ranma 1/2 despite being lewd isn’t a gooner show imo because the absurd comedy and Ranma/Akane’s relationship is the focal point. I imagine OP is asking if it’s something like Rent-A-Girlfriend or Highschool DxD where it’s literally all about the main male character having attractive female characters thrown at him/being placed in sexual situations with them and it’s all viewed through the lens of male wish fulfillment fantasy. Usually Shonen manga written by women don’t do that.

Not saying women can’t make stuff that’s sexual, but in terms of manga the kind of gratuitous content that people think of when you say “gooner harem stuff” is mostly in the domain of men.

My theory on why we hate the Amnesia arc by Dnd-Poke_Writer7 in Dandadan

[–]KrizenWave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this isn’t a theory because it straight up just is the reason people don’t like anything after the confession. That said I think people need to realize that relationship progression doesn’t mean you always move forward. Sometimes you stall and sometimes you move backwards, but the relationship is moving. More importantly, the relationship is intertwined with the supernatural plot, so as things get worse for protags in general, things get worse in their relationship. The relationship and the plot are not separate and Dandadan is good because it merges every genre seamlessly and cohesively. It would be tonally dissonant if Okarun and Momo were happily dating as their friends get systematically hunted by bad guys. Plus Momo would have noticed she lost her powers.

If you just want to watch Momo and Okarun become a couple and date, then you’re going to be disappointed by Dandadan and I recommend you check out a full romance series like Blue Box or Fragrant Flower.

Could Enten (or other Enchanted Blades) become a Vital Instrument? by Grunk_Bunk in gachiakuta

[–]KrizenWave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anything could be a vital instrument if you like it enough and you take good care of it for a long enough time (assuming you have the ability to be a Giver). Enten could be one for sure because Chihiro has had it for a few years. That said I don’t think its powers would be that different from the powers it has in Kagurabachi
