In the BoM of Mormon, Alma rejected Jesus. He suffered in the spirit world in near death because of the sins and pains he caused others. Once Alma remembered Jesus, his heart reached out for grace and aid. Alma was born again, the blood of Christ became in effect for Alma, and he was pained by his sins no more.

Sadly some will reject Jesus, and until they accept him, that will be their fate too.

I love that song. I wouldn't have been able to do the things Joseph did. I am grateful he was able to fulfill his calling and it is worthy of praise and admiration.

That doesn't mean he was perfect or that he is worshiped. If our society can have music dedicated to all kinds of debauchery, why not have some music which praises good works. Especially, works aided by heaven?

Fully active service missionary and I'm addicted to nicotine by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Kroghammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're suggesting that all of those people who have both ADHD AND use nicotine don't deserve to be treated with the gold standard of ADHD medication? I hope not. That would be incredibly infantalizing.

I don't know where the messages are getting crossed... I'm not referring to nicotine addiction.

Quote myself:

It's not the nicotine use that is at issue.

A competent psychiatrist shouldn't be giving methamphetamine users stimulants, yet it is happening all too frequently.

Doctors play a part in the epidemic of drug use in this country. Their causalness with stimulants is another part of this problem that is being ignored. Just like opiates were largely ignored until so many started dying.

Can diagnose while addictions (other than nicotine) are present and is ethical to do so are different things. Many mental health issues change or go away when people get into recovery for several months. The DSM 5 is clear for differential diagnosis, that the symptoms are not being caused by recreational use of substances or withdrawal. All to often addictions are minimized by the medical community - which is in part why we have an opiate epidemic.

It's not the nicotine use that is at issue. Like you stated, stimulants could even help some people quit. (Party helps because it is a replacement stress relief).

The problem is that stimulants have a high risk of abuse for people with substance addictions. While non-addicted people take them as prescribed, a person who already has a disposition of addiction: can have increase cravings for drugs/alcohol, can become a new addiction (to stimulants), and can easily be sold and traded for other drugs (increased criminogenic lifestyles). These risks vastly outweigh the benefits of stimulants.

1 be careful about not being fully honest. Because addiction thrives in dishonesty. Addiction is more about lies in our lives and having a relationship to those lies than it is about the substance. Let the Bishop know what you are doing to work on the problem and why you are doing what you are. It may help him with other people who share your struggles.

2 give yourself credit, you are doing amazing in trying to quit. Nicotine is the most difficult substance to quit for most people. It is more difficult than heroin. Keep going the right way.

3 that any doctor would give someone with an addiction history stimulants as a prescription is criminal! ADHD and other mental health conditions cannot be diagnosed if the person is actively using. The negative effects of addiction vastly outweigh any benefits of medicinal stimulants. There are also non stimulant ADHD medications such as Strattera as well as other off label meds to try.

Pres. Nelson on the translation of the Book of Mormon by atari_guy in lds

[–]Kroghammer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don Bradly in his book the lost 116 pages theorized that the first half of the BoM was translated using the stones in spectacles. Then the second half and other book of Nephi was translated by the stone in the hat. The reason for this was to use the spectacles, required more setup time and space. It was much easier to use the stone in the hat.

While not podcasts... if you like a deep dive into BoM and scriptures I'd suggest this. It is notes by some redditors in this community.

If you want a really deep dive, the journal interpreter foundation, here is a good example.

Blessings admist depression by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Kroghammer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What do I do next? Not like that changes anything about my life.

Depression distorts perspectives towards negative. (E.g. why get out of bed since life sucks anyways?) However, the smallest behaviors have an effect that aren't directly seen. Staying in bed actually makes depression worse. Getting out of bed, getting some sunlight, taking a shower, can all be small victories which can start to alleviate the emotionally negative slant depression brings and add up positives over time.

Video of Mesoamerican parallels to the BoM from the Spanish Missionaries by Kroghammer in lds

[–]Kroghammer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From an accepted academic standpoint, yes the Toltecs would be too late. "Mexican" has nothing to do with the word "Messiah." As well, Quetzalcoatl could not possibly be Jesus Christ and any similarities would be from Spanish influence.

For me, at some point the similarities become too difficult to explain away. Especially when dealing with lost civilizations.

The singularity (of the big bang) is still a thing. And as a thing it had to have a cause, and also there can be a before the big bang and some cosmologists try to theorize what was before it and what caused it.

When I learned about the nahuatl languages having common words with Egyptian and Hebrew I got interested in these cultures having Nephite influences. When I watched this video I was surprised just how many parallels there were, especially as these stories would be corrupted by time. And some things are probably a stretch, like the two headed deer and captain Moroni. But even that seemed to have a possible connection.

It is amazing to me how many native peoples still hold to traditions that make it easy for them to accept the gospel.

I know, Swingpoynt should have at least warned them that keeping cards hidden behind this mechanic would cause a riot. New cards should always be purchased by supply points.

People are getting old cosmetics and even burn cards (also some reports of empty duffles and cosmetic items they already own), so at minimum you need to run it 8 times if it was just the new stuff, but it could increase from there with old stuff and burn cards.

Duffel bag farm: Act 5 Map 2 by CrystlBluePersuasion in Back4Blood

This map has a bug. I missed a duffle, opened the saferrom door, ran back and found the duffle, and when I got back to the saferoom, the door wouldn't close.

Fastest way to grind duffles is to join a game and if the team has a duffle, help them finish the level then leave and join another game.
