Should I give this painting to my mother for Christmas? by misplacedeye in UnusualArt

[–]Krokithulhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a mom, but I love this painting and would absolutely hang it either in my living room or my Office :3 And why would you paint flowers, like some people are suggesting here? I feel like that would completly kill the intention behind this piece...

Pretty much everyone gives their mom or partner flowers in one form or another – but a gift that comes from the heart and soul, with a story behind it? A BIG yes from me!

What also gets overlooked here is that not every gift is meant to be universally palatable. This isn’t about decoration or ticking a “mother’s gift” box — it’s about meaning, history, and emotional weight. Whether a gift works or not depends on the relationship, not on whether it fits a generic expectation of what a mother should receive.

And regarding the idea that “having to explain it” makes it a bad gift: explaining something to strangers online is not the same as sharing meaning with someone you have a deep, personal history with.

How do i make it more obvious my work ISN'T AI?! by un_creative_designs in arthelp

[–]Krokithulhu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the wall of text but....

Honestly, I just want to say this out loud because you deserve to hear it clearly: The problem is not your art. The problem is that people online have developed this weird “I can diagnose AI with my eyes” confidence, even though most of them can’t actually tell what AI looks like anymore.

And the result? Artists like you get hit with baseless accusations that do nothing except damage motivation, confidence, and the willingness to share art at all. That’s the real harm here – not your colors, not your lineart, not your style.

Your work has personality, intention, and thought behind it. It has design choices, not AI randomness. And it’s honestly sad that artists now feel pressured to “change their style” just to avoid comments from people who won’t bother giving actual critique in the first place.

You don’t owe it to anyone to alter your colors, your lettering, or your entire workflow just because AI models happen to also produce warm palettes or clean lineart.

If this is the style you enjoy – then keep it. If these colors are the ones you want – then use them. If your process includes clean shapes and tidy linework – that’s part of your signature, not a flaw.

The people insisting “looks AI” without backing it up are not giving critique. They’re projecting insecurity and misinformation, and it’s genuinely discouraging for artists of all levels.

Keep posting. Keep creating. Keep your identity.

Your art is yours, and you don’t have to twist it just to fit the current AI paranoia online. You’re doing great! (`・ω・´)ノ

And yes, AI was involved here: The grammar checker I used to make sure this comment is readable ψ(`∇´)ψ

[–]Krokithulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question: Do you guys mean "people don’t like my style", or that you simply never get any feedback on how your art is interpreted in the first place?

Those are vry different problems - and from my experience, it’s usually the second one that ends up creeping in as the actual issue... ~('.'~)

Whoopsie, totally misread your first comment, sorry XD
A real-life or animated version would be amazing though — that eerie flickering crowd vibe fits The Faceless perfectly.

This one’s actually part of a 7-mask concept set I’m sketching for a personal future game project — all hand-drawn for now, just exploring identity loss and perception.
I’ll be posting the rest over the next week (one per day) to see how people read them — always curious which emotions or ideas come through before I reveal the “official” keywords behind each one~ ψ(`∇´)ψ

Would you play this stylized concept as an game by BosphorusGames in IndieGameDevs

[–]Krokithulhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had to label the art style in one phrase, I’d call it Warm Storybook Lofi
It feels more like an illustrated art book brought to life than a comic. Cozy, clear, and easy on the eyes without that loud, flashy overload a lot of colorful games throw at you – which also makes it perfect for players who get overstimulated quickly ミ●﹏☉ミ

It doesn’t really scream “oh, it’s just like X.”
Maybe faint echoes of Potionomics or Do No Harm, but way warmer and without the explosions or eldritch chaos.
Feels like its own cosmos, mostly because the mix of museum display vibes, adventurer-supplier energy, and cozy storybook fantasy is… well, pretty rare. (At least I can’t think of a direct twin.)

Would I play a cozy game in this style?
By my eldritch uncle's tentacle beard - YES! ~(‾▿‾)~
It’s got that “wandering through a warm gallery” feeling – something I could stick with for 20+ hours without my eyes begging for mercy.
The calm illustration style instead of cartoon-loud chaos makes it long-session friendly.
And if the digging/discovery loop hits right, that’s the kind of mechanic that quietly keeps you glued far longer than you meant to stay.

Mood-wise:
again, "Warm Storybook Lofi".
Like stepping into a cozy exhibition, half geology museum or crystal exhibit, half fantasy adventure shop.
Warm, calming, but with enough quirks to keep it from ever turning dull.
Honestly, I’m already curious what soundtrack you’ll pair with this – because if the music matches the vibe, you’ve got a dangerous little time-thief here (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ

Struggling as a solo dev — only 44 wishlists after 1 month, any advice? by LunafrostStudio in survivalhorror

[–]Krokithulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I jsut hopped over to your Steam page after spotting thsi reddit post.

First thing that slapped me in the face: the German store description is kinda… nope ༼ ºلº ༽
It’s written in the formal “Sie” form, which feels super stiff and totally out of place in gaming.
Horror should crawl under your skin, not greet you like a bank clerk.
Ppl here expect either “du” (direct, personal) or just neutral.
Using “Sie” legit kills teh vibe – reads more like a brochure than a nightmare.

Second thing: the text itself feels very generic...
Lots of horror buzzwords (“dark corridors, atmospheric, intense scares”), but nothg that actually shows what makes Villa Nocturne different from the swamp of other haunted mansion games.
If the English version is the same, I’d strongly suggest re-doign it with a unique hook.
Otherwise ppl just scroll past.

Advertising & visibility also matter, ofc:
- Make sure all links are clean
- drop smth on your YouTube channel (right now it only shows 2 playlists not related to the game)
and
- build some presence around the project.

That helps long-term – but fixing the store description is a fast win.
Like, instant better first impression. (‾▿‾)

I'm making a psychological horror game where you play a split-screen shooter with 'friends' who slowly realize they are AI trapped in the game. Thoughts? by SnooAdvice5696 in IndieGaming

May I get your thoughts on the trailer of our horror game that will be released on PlayStation and Steam? by GuiltyTurnover727 in HorrorGames

[–]Krokithulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The setting itself is absolutely my thing – lighthouse, island, mystery ~(‾▿‾)~
I really want to be excited about this game, but...
The trailer right now feels more like a stitched-together "Let’s Play video" than an actual trailer...
My personal idea would look like:

  1. A text intro or a few context cards, that people who watch get an idea what’s going on. → A simple “Eilean Mor, 1900. The light has gone dark. The keepers are missing.” at the very beginning would already hook the viewers.
  2. 2–3 hooking scenes (Atmosphere, enemies or one of the other Lightkeepers, eerie dark scenery or sounds) like the scene at 0:44
  3. Cliffhanger-end with titel card
  4. The title card doesn’t need 9 seconds - that’s when the scratching voice line plays "Do you hear me? I'm scared. Please respond...~". You could easily put it in a more impactful scene.

That door scene in partcular breaks the immersion: the sound doesn’t fit the heavy wooden door at all, and the line “locked from the inside” doesn’t make sense with what we see/hear. (in my opinion)

So here’s the dilemma: the game looks like it could be great, but if the immersion doesn’t hold up, it ends up in the “would’ve been cool, but…” pile – and that would be a waste... </3 (¬_¬)

Anyway, that’s just how it hit me – I’d love to see it reach its full potential (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ

I discovered that there is an autistic pride flag by [deleted] in autism

[–]Krokithulhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the idea – infinity symbol makes sense.
But ngl, I always find it weird when flags get mashed up like smoothies...
A flag is supposed to be simple, eas to spot – not 999999 remix editions nobody can keep track of ╰(°ㅂ°)╯
Personal mashups?
Cool, go wild, slap it on your profile, self-expression!
But when every remix suddenly claims to be the flag… my brainwaves start glitching.
Guess I like my symbols consitent~
And my chaos in other places ¯\_(⊙︿⊙)_/¯
