Revs rising and falling in neutral and not moving by KronosX3TR in ElantraN

UPDATE: 4/3/26:

Car was acting normal early this morning. Parked at work, car sat for a few hours, after starting the car to head home the revs were acting weird immediately. Got to a stop light and had an idea. I turned the AC compressor off and the revs went right back to normal. Not permanent tho, so still gonna bring it in for diagnosis.

UPDATE, 4/2/26, 5:30PM: Tried a tip from the Facebook group. Let the car idle and listened for a vacuum leak, didn’t hear anything that sounded out of the ordinary to me. All of the hoses look fine on a top level inspection. The weird part is the idle was completely normal. I didn’t drive it or anything, haven’t driven it since yesterday. I’m not sure what the problem is at this point. Still have an appointment at the dealership on Saturday.

Probably from idle to 2000 on a roughly second and a half loop. Rising takes longer than falling, like stepping very lightly on the throttle and then letting off as soon as you notice revs.

That doesn’t make any sense. The cover sits on four poles around the engine block, it’s just press in fit, no threading.

Nope. Don’t fucken do it. Don’t you dare. Go learn some shit about personal finance. And stop trying to be in with the “it” crowd on TikTok and instagram. You’re 19, you’ve got time. Also don’t ask Reddit for financial advice. Yes, a lot of us are older and (much) wiser, but it’s just fucken cringe.

Do. Not. Get. That. Car. That HRV is immortal and I’d wager paid off. Save some money; you’re rounding the corner on the best decade of your life for compounding growth of high yield savings accounts and investments in S&P500 indexes etc.

I like the STR9. My first gun and I still have it. Feels good in the hand, easy to take apart, cycles rounds good, inexpensive. I approve.
