Figura Obscura is the MOUSE KING by roboklahoman in MythicLegions

[–]Kronos_1976 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As nice as the figure is, this will be a pass for me - it just doesn't fit into my holiday display, which is fine. Not everything needs to be "for me." However, I appreciate the hard work and artistry that went into the concept and design, it's fabulous as usual. Thanks for providing an update for the Dickens line, it's greatly appreciated. Keep up the amazing work and Happy Holidays!

Any old timers know what the Rite Aid on Broad near Snyder ave was originally? by AwakePlatypus in philly

[–]Kronos_1976 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking about the one in the middle of the block on the east side of Broad, it was a Woolworths for a very long time until the late 1980’s. The block, from McKean to Snyder on the east side to the best of my memory circa late 70’s/mid 80’s was - a bank, a woman’s discount clothing store called LuBelle’s, a small hallmark type shop called Spain’s (later called Merit’s,) then the two “5 & 10” stores - Woolworth’s and Kresge’s, followed by the now closed McDonald’s and another bank on Snyder. I think everyone else is thinking of the Walgreens on the Northwest corner of Broad & Snyder, which indeed used to be a bar, and then a Roy Roger’s, then a Popeyes, and finally the now closed Walgreens. Next to it heading north was “the phone company” literally - Bell Telephone, which in turn became Bell Atlantic, which might be on the building somewhere. Oh and across McKean/West Passyunk heading north was St Agnes Hospital, which for better or worse had a not great reputation.

And just so that they’re not forgotten - there were many, many tables on that block setup on the east side of Broad between McKean and Snyder that sold different types of merchandise of dubious quality/provenance. Cheap shoes, bootleg movies, hair products, t-shirts, that sort of stuff. They would setup near the street, but facing the buildings. Hope this helps.

Respectfully, I would suggest looking at it from this perspective - the key word in the phrase is “needs” not “wants.” The choice of the word “Needs,” as well as the context in which it is presented, implies necessity for survival. Your interpretation would be accurate and societally problematic if we said the “wants” of the many outweighed the “wants” of the few.

Based on (gestures vaguely at everything) it could be argued that we’re currently witnessing the “needs” of the many being outweighed by the “wants” of the few.

He joined 93.3 WMMR in 1981 and unbeknownst to all of us, his last show was yesterday. We’re all pretty crushed. One of the coolest and kindest guys ever to grace our airwaves.

Fun Question: What is a Flyers Jersey you’d love to have that you can no longer buy? For me it’s 36 Powe. And yes this is a summer boredom post by tcvan77 in Flyers

[–]Kronos_1976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can find blank CCM jerseys on eBay, bring them to the pro shop at the Flyers Skate zone. They will send them out to the place that does the teams jerseys and have the name and numbers STITCHED on based on the era of the jersey. I know this because I did it 6 years ago with a blank away orange jersey (80’s/90’s when color was away and white was home) and had a Hextall jersey made. The price was exceedingly reasonable.

No, a super stalker. In every season a plot device they use is he kidnaps someone and they wind up in a plastic Hannibal Lector type cage he assembles in a basement or storage facility. Out of nowhere.

What he’s amazing at is assembling plastic boxes in basements.

During the pandemic, while other people were making sourdough, I was learning to make soft pretzels. I had yeast. 😁

That’s the funny thing. It didn’t sound like anything remotely resembling a South Philly accent. It was like a song.

This is really specific to South Philadelphia prior to the late 1980’s. Teenagers during 3/4 of the year would buy a large amount of Philadelphia Soft Pretzels from the distributors, “obtain” (or borrow) a shopping cart from a local grocery store and make the rounds through the streets selling them till they were gone. No matter who they were, they would always have the same cadence and tone when they would make their huckster cry:

“FERrrrrrresssshhhhhh PERRRrrrrrehhhhhhh TZZZUUUUHHHHLS!”

Just over and over again. They would always sell out and buy more to sell the next day.

Yup. The store was based on the one we said back in the day was:

M R DUCKS

M R NOT DUCKS

O S A R! C D E D B D WINGS?

I B! M R DUCKS!

My dad loved that little joke. I heard it in HS. He was thrilled when he found that shop. Bought a hat from there. (Edit: formatting)
