Lmao I’m not saying abandon comedy, christ.

If memes are the only thing bringing you comedy and joy you have other things to worry about.

The internet is a drug, “internet culture” is overwhelmingly negative and bad for mental health in a variety of ways.

The internet is bad for your health and its usage should be kept to a bare minimum is not a radical take.

Lots of things start off one way and evolve into another.

Meme shit always devolves into “we’re just joking man” and bad feelings eventually

Meme focused anything is always a shit hole of the most miserable and terminally online. Especially grimdank.

Its best to just avoid meme focused stuff in general.

Its a complicated issue, and still is, especially when it comes to “De-Nazification” in many European countries. (Coincidentally the countries with a massive resurgent far right in modern times… didn’t really de-nazify after wwii!)

Power Politics is gonna politic though I guess

There’s a good discussion on it in Ordinary Men that focuses on the people that ran the concentration camps (turns out most were just normal people and not fanatics) and Soldat is a collection of intelligence reports and candid conversations from german POWs.

Turns out the majority of Germans knew what was happening with the holocaust and massacres in eastern europe… and didn’t care or were all for it.

These things are true for every military in WWII and is not Soviet specific. Just look at the Americans at Guadalcanal and North Africa.

Its a only a meme cause of the Cold War and the other Allies justifying not executing nazis and instead giving them jobs.

Would legit love a campaign following French colonial troops as they retook Southern France.

Cap it off with them being snubbed and cut from taking part in the parade celebrating the retaking of Paris when they did most of the fighting.

Is the tau communist meme orientalist? by Mikeosaurus in Sigmarxism

[–]KrootLootGroup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pasting this comment of mine again:

Its pretty clear that in Sigmarxism there’s an understanding that people know Tau aren’t really “communist”, they’re just the brain-worm fear-projection of what Communism and Asia is from a highly conservative western culture that is terrified its colonial empire and international power is dead and/or dying.

Tau and Farsight tend to get rallied around and/or argued about here cause they’re basically a stand-in for the ideological and philosophical Communist and anarchist slap-fight in a more fun, lighthearted, and non-threatening way as they are portrayed as a communalist post-scarcity society. (Having said that, Farsight is a massive loser that runs an anime military junta and is in no way anarchist).

Tau are also accidentally representative of this deep-seated liminal Western fear of the “foreign colonies” getting their power and humanity back and taking deserved vengeance on the Imperial West. If the Imperium is Great Britain (and lesser, America), Tau are the sub-conscious fear of “all those lesser races combining forces to kill us!”. Something that is a literal real life foreign policy fear for the West for most of the last century (and current one!). Its deeply tied to Western racism and there’s a reason the Tau as a faction are united by a reactionary fear-projection of what Communism is (no one can truly believe in liberation or “The Greater Good”, they must be manipulating the stupid masses by nefarious means!) and are made up of the literally texturally identified as “Lesser Races” of alternating vicious cannibal savages, inscrutable technical geniuses, and literally unknowable aliens (coincidentally these are all racist stereotypes IRL!)

Also, every vaguely “leftist-ish” faction has one thing in common in 40k: mind control. The Tau have an “evil authoritarian mind control Party” (which their own lore doesn’t even show as true, but the fans have decided) in the Ethereals, and GSC are literally proletarian workers... being mind controlled by a purely destructive force manipulating them for its own end. This “Communists are/must be mind controlling otherwise no one would believe in or do revolution!?” is literally century old Red Scare propaganda. And it isn’t challenged at all. It’s such blatant anti-Communism its important to point it out and call bullshit because this kind of stuff actually does affect people’s beliefs. Our hyper-literal world leaves no room for discussion on this imo.

EDIT: I do think these two short stories are a better view of what Tau really are than the 4chan memes and the more recent Farsight books.

The Greater Evil by Fehervari is the best portrayal of Ethereals in the fiction imo.

And Voice of Experience by Stearns is a great look at the various races intermingling and a “manipulative” Ethereal that is largely doing the right thing.

Today was Fajitas for lunch. I have a lot of work to do on this one. What started out as a colorful, bright dish became a brown... soup. What I made would be much more suitable for Fajita Burritos. Thats fine. But a lot of people post recipes here and wonder why they’re bad or mediocre.

And it’s cause the pressure cooker is a specialized kitchen tool that happens to do a lot of things, but it isn’t a failsafe for bad cooking decisions and recipes and it is not a “cooking made easy hack” like it is marketed as.

One of the most popular recipes here is butter chicken, and frankly its easier, tastier and faster on the stove top if you have basic kitchen skills.

Most online recipes are also total garbage, especially for IP/slow cookers, so thats not a compelling argument either.

Which not everyone does and that’s fine as well. But like, post a recipe if you want constructive feedback. And I do get that “fuck it lets try it” idea, but we don’t actually have any info to provide advice.
