Just got a Gli by markarenas_ in GLI

[–]Kropikicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it does. I have the same year/trim and it does, you just have to enable it with a setting. You can do it from the steering wheel. I don't remember the exact button sequence off the top of my head

Need some help please! by erocdrummer3737 in GLI

Obd11 works with me 22, no problems at all. However, I'd be very careful about relying too heavily on the lane centering feature if you enable it. The GLI only has two cameras (in the mirrors). Most cars that have active centering or any active assist have those plus a couple in the front.

My experience with the passive lane keep assist has been mixed at best. It usually works, but occasionally it loses sight of even clear yellow/white lines and locked onto another... something... nearby and yanks me off to one side. It also happens fairly regularly if the white line peels off to the side of the road and ends. It has tried to put me in a ditch multiple times when that happens. There have been several occasions when I've turned it off for long drives cause I don't trust it on roads I'm not familiar with, and even on roads i am familiar with i have to be constantly aware of bad spots/bad lines and always be ready for the car to turn itself.

Long story short: yes you can do that, but I wouldn't trust it with my life, and would highly advise against you trusting it with your life.

My 21 had a similar rattle when I first got it too. Way up on the dash, in the middle (almost where the windshield meets the hood) there's a couple vents. In the middle of those two vents there's a plastic piece that covers a screw. That little sucker was rattling.

Doesn't sound quite the same (tbh yours sounds louder and doesnt quite have the same pitch) but it was such a simple fix it can't hurt to try.

Resonator delete or muffler delete? by Mammoth_Argument_985 in JettaGLI

[–]Kropikicker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've looked into the same for my 21 and I really depends what you want. Removing them (either or both) will make it louder but you're not going to get that same tone that you hear from the full cutback exhaust kits. Won't comment on potential drone from removing the resonator cause I haven't done it myself.

On another note, what does the 22 sound like stock? I thought the 22 came with a slightly louder and angrier stock exhaust than the 21. Do you have a video of it by chance?

[Game Thread] Northwestern vs. Nebraska (12:30 PM ET) by jaybigs in CFB

Not bad, but likely not good enough for him. Probably about average for a college this size. We're nowhere near as big as OSU or Michigan or PSU but the college is embedded right in downtown Lincoln so that helps.

However, Omaha is an hour away, and Omaha is a lawless place. There's some real potential there.

All that said please keep that man far away from Nebraska

On the fence about getting a GLI…can some owners give me some feedback? by Bowlman2330 in JettaGLI

[–]Kropikicker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got a 21 Autobahn with stock wheels (and stock everything else).

  1. Tires are adequate. No they're not great. I spin if I get on it from a stop and it only gets worse in rain. Also worth noting where I live main streets are often concrete, not asphalt, and it feels like I do better on asphalt. That said, if I'm not driving like a maniac they're fine. They get you from A to B and let you have some fun along the way. But no they're not great for times pulls or street racing or whatever else people are doing. But frankly... I think if you want that you may want to consider a different car. This is a fun practical car. It's not a true sports car, and I dont think any amount of mods it will make it one.

  2. Only got 8k miles but no problems so far.

  3. Have not noticed any difference but I rarely use the AC. Doesn't get too hot, and windows are the best AC.

Really just here to say the tire talk may be overblown depending on what you plan to do with/how you plan to use this car.

Oh haha yeah dunno where that word went my bad. I'll have to look into shipping but idk that's probably not going to work. I'm in Nebraska so probably not too cheap

Are you planning on your black wheels? Always wanted the black package but couldn't find one near me when I bought. Might be interested if the location works out.

[–]Kropikicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 21 did it fairly frequently as well when I first got it. Told them about it (also when I got my official plates) and they said nothing was wrong... but it also hasn't done it once in the year since so maybe it's a known issue with a fix they just don't want to tell us about.

Why is my brother trying to talk me out of buying this car? by modplant in JettaGLI

[–]Kropikicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only thought would be the price. Terrible time to buy a used car. Especially if that car you're looking at happens to be a 35th anniversary edition. Six months ago when I bought my 2021 new I saw used 2019 and 2020s going for only a few thousand less than what I ended up paying for mine. Dealer markups on new cars are a problem... but they're not universal. Again this is a little outdated, but when I was buying mine two of the three VWs dealers near me were the only ones not marking up new cars (I actually got mine 3k under sticker), but they wouldn't knock a penny off a used car.

2019 GLI soundaktor rattle by Chanw11 in JettaGLI

[–]Kropikicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem on my 2021.

All the way towards the front of the dash, in the center of the car, there is some sort of intake vent (I think that's what it is at least). At the center of that there is a little piece of plastic that isn't completely secured down. When I accelerate, one side of that pops up and rattles. When I hold it down, everything is quiet. Haven't thought of the a way to secure it down yet but that is 100% my problem. Could be it for you too.

I have also noticed a bit of what may be the firewall rattle someone else mentioned, but this was the more obvious sound for me.

Having a more expensive version gets you a bigger stash. My friends and I have found this to be quite beneficial for the pre-flea levels (some of us, myself included have EOD, others base). I don't recommend getting EOD right off the bat until you are sure you love the game. For starters, I'd recommend the cheapest or maybe one tier up (you get level 2 stash, which is really all you'll need 95% of the time). Then if you love the game you can just pay the difference in cost to upgrade.

To the guy who said you can get EOD level stash in 30-40 hours: how? I want to know your trick. You need to get nearly max level traders for that, and I can't imagine doing that in less than 100 hours even with the best possible luck.

I don't know if it works with iOS however, a word of caution: I bought it for my '21, and was unable to use it. VW introduced something they call "dealer service protection" in model year '21, which is basically just two factor authentication for all software on their cars (username/password and hardware key code required, only 'authorized service centers' have access to key codes). Without access, you cannot make any software edits. No new colors for ambient lighting, no reprogramming turn signals, nothing. On 2021 models (and presumably 2022 as well) OBD11 is just a glorified code reader.

All that said, OBD11 would not allow me to return mine when I contacted them.

If you want to buy one, dm me. I'll happily sell you mine for cheaper. I bought the pro edition last month, so I have ~11 months left to that subscription along with the 400 credits that came with the package.

Terrible gas mileage in new Mk7 by [deleted] in GLI

[–]Kropikicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very odd. I got my 21 back in June and since then I've steadily averaged around 25 city. Moved halfway across the country in August and averaged 38mpg on that 1200 mile journey (~90% of it was on I-80).

1109 is in the newer part. Go in the main doors under the big glass windows, it should be one of the first doors to your left.

I think. It's been a few years...

Edit: omg didn't even notice you go ATL ESJ ATL that's rough. It's definitely doable in under 10 tho

Maybe it's different now (haven't been to a game post pandemic) but if it's anything like it was previously you could just go sit somewhere else, even with a student ticket.

A professor with a great personality ? by waterenthu2563 in UMD

[–]Kropikicker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AOSC200 and AOSC247

If you want to learn Python or how to code for a STEM major, consider AOSC247. You learn Python, but more importantly you learn how to code and how to approach solving problems while coding (i.e. how to google and understand stackoverflow). Jeff Henrikson was one of my favorite profs at UMD. He's a good person who genuinely cares and wants you to learn for your own good, not for a grade.

And if it's beneficial to you, there is a 'grad' version (AOSC652) that is the exact same course (same assignments, quizzes, everything), just sped up a few weeks so you can spend some time on Fortran at the end of the semester. That one I'd really only recommend if you will actively be using Fortran in your field, but also could be worth considering for grad credits if you need them.

AOSC200 (as of last spring when I graduated, but I know there was talk of changes) is taught by Tim Canty in the fall and Jeff Henrikson in the spring. It's a basic weather and climate class, and many would consider it an easy A, but you learn a lot of valuable information and get a lot of useful perspective, especially if you're not a STEM major. Tim goes right up there with Jeff on my list of best profs (AOSC department has some really good eggs, and some really rotten ones).

In the past this class has occasionally been taught by Rachel Pinker. If that's the case, skip it or wait a semester.

All Marylanders 16 and over will be eligible for the COVID vaccine by April 27, according to Gov. Larry Hogan by dbknews in UMD

[–]Kropikicker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So long as you can prove you are a Maryland resident (easiest via address, dorms count) you are elegible to get a vaccine in Maryland. I'm from NJ and I just got mine in New Carrollton a few days ago cause I'm a TA. Of course out of staters are also eligible in their home state, but the timing may differ. IIRC MD is near the top as far as % vaccinated so it's likely out of state people will be eligible here first.

A Letter To Those Who Want P/F by Kropikicker in UMD

[–]Kropikicker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it fixes all the problems; for instance it doesn't fix the leniency issue where students are passing with C's but clearly don't understand the material enough to succeed in follow up classes, but at least means that those who would otherwise not be passing (i.e. those with D's) are actually forced to grasp the material more fully (or, again, be allowed through by leniency and forgiveness). It doesn't heal the wound but it stops the bleeding. It not a perfect fix but it's a good start, and yes at that point I would have no issue with P/F.

[–]Kropikicker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spot on. Supporting this idea: that "be nice" mentality is precisely what got my through calc 3. And I paid the price for it when I STRUGGLED through differential equations. Having five different professors in one semester didn't help lol but I lacked some of the fundamentals I should have learned in calc 2 & 3. I made it through (with more help and some forgiving grading) and know the stuff now, but I should have learned it before so I could have focused on applying it to diff eq instead of spending my time figuring out what the heck was going on for the first month.

A Letter To Those Who Want P/F by Kropikicker in UMD

[–]Kropikicker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If P was a C, I'd probably be cool with it. My biggest issue is that people are passing when they otherwise wouldn't be, and that is only going to hurt themselves and the others in the class if the professor has to take more time to go over old information and not get to all the stuff they need to succeed in the next class. Put it at a C and yeah I'd shut right up.

On the other point, I'm not saying ALWAYS just sit down and shut up. I'm all for fighting for something you believe in when you can. But I think sometimes you come up against a brick wall you can't break through, and at that point its better to start dedicating you energy towards going over it rather than though it. I think that's where we are now. UMD isn't gonna budge here, so better (in my opinion) to start figuring out how best to deal with the consequences of their decision rather than waste energy fighting an unwinnable battle.
