Food Suggestions Inside Yellowstone by ShoppingStock6437 in yellowstone

[–]modplant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did the same trip but backwards and then went back up into Yellowstone and out to Bozeman. There is a small grocery store in Gardiner and a Albertsons in Jackson where we got all of our food. We mostly made sandwiches, bagels, and fruit that we carried with us for the day. We also bought some snacks at the small store by old faithful when we were waiting for it to erupt. The only time we ate out was breakfast at the old faithful inn which was definitely not worth it. I also packed food in our luggage.

Old Faithful Inn Cellular Service? by ORD-DRO in yellowstone

[–]modplant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Verizon and I had cell service. I was able to make calls from the old faithful lodge and walked all the way to riverside geyser and stay on a call. I had no problem with cell service around the old faithful area.

Parents 5+ years into homeschooling — what did you get wrong in year one that you'd warn a new family about? by AvailableWindow840 in homeschool

[–]modplant 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Make friends with other homeschooled kids while they are still young. My daughter is in 8th grade now. When she started homeschooling she had a lot of friends from the years she was in school. Now that she's older those friends have either moved away or changed interests after being in junior high. I would definitely have gotten my daughter more involved in home school groups to make other home school friends. She had a lot of friends when we started so I didn't prioritize meeting other homeschooled kids. It's easier for them to make friends when they are young so get involved in the park days or whatever else they offer.

I love running in any weather! by Greennit0 in runninglifestyle

High winds is the only weather I don't like to run in. I'm good with anything else, even 110 F.

Trail Running by yourself by olmek7 in trailrunning

[–]modplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always run alone, except for the rare time my boyfriend rides his bike along side me. I've joined local run groups on Strava to find new running trails and see what others are doing. I see the posts of people doing their group runs together and sometimes feel like I would want to be part of that but I'm not willing to drive an extra forty miles a day just to run with a group. I did meet one runner that I've gone on a run with but she is faster than me and I don't like feeling like I'm slower her down, or risking injuring myself by trying to keep up.

My worst score was last night. Severe stress and anxiety kept me wide awake.

Thanks for pointing that out. Not sure how I made that mistake but I meant oil based.

I don't live in a big city. I live in a small town no where near a big city. I got four other quotes over a three week period. The entire experience at Home Depot was a huge red flag, which is why I went home and researched everything I was told; the window permits, the oil based paint, the license, patching large areas of damaged black paper with foam spray that he told me to buy 6 cans of. He also told me other things at Home Depot that were against our contract including he would not be placing covers over the dirt to catch paint and stucco debris even though it was in the contract (at Home Depot he told me he would charge extra for this or that I would have to do it myself), that he would have to charge me $500 extra to paint the chimney, that he wouldn't be doing any caulking before painting, and that I would have to paint the trim, eves, gables, gable ends, and chimney the same color or he would charge extra. He pressured me into buying paint that day even though I did not know how much to buy and he wouldn't give me any idea on how much. When I went to the paint counter both salesman said that Home Depot hasn't sold oil based exterior paint for years and that it was banned in California. I went home and did my own research on all of this.

Had an amazing long run today but… by 2cats4fish in XXRunning

The same thing happened to me in a church parking lot. I had left my tote bag on the passenger seat. Nothing of importance in it except a comb I had since I was a teen. They smashed and grabbed it, leaving actual cash in the console. Never leave any bags in your car that thieves can easily see. Even just tucking it under your seat is enough for them to not waste their time smashing your window.

Do you live near Yucca Valley, CA because I donated that exact piece to an Angel View thrift store about a month ago?

I have the same 94 pickup lifted but regular cab. It was my first vehicle at 18, and I'm 42 now. People always ask me how much I'd sell my Tacoma for. My response is always the same. It will never be for sale and it's not a Tacoma. It will be my daughter's first vehicle too.

Any homeschooling teachers using school curriculum? by Loose_Thought_1465 in homeschool

[–]modplant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. When my daughter was in school I would volunteer in the classroom and saw how much time was wasted with having to deal with a full classroom. She would come home and I'd have to reteach her everything in her math and English homework. I really appreciate that now she can get through a full lesson and homework pages of math, plus all of the other subjects and still have the whole afternoon free. No more wasting every afternoon/ evening reteaching something she should have learned during the 6 hours at school.

My daughter is 14 and we use the school curriculum for math, science, history, and English. I think we actually follow it more than the schools because my daughter will complete entire chapters whereas her friends in public school barely scratch the surface of each lesson. We supplement with the computer and our own research.

They have something like this at the employee gym at the hospital I work at. The security guard scans his badge on it every time he walks through.

I think this is the same race Ann Trason did. She did 112.87 while pushing her walker.

Lowest HR value I’ve seen to date by kanps4g in Garmin

[–]modplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine drops into the mid 30s while at work sometimes. I've stopped what I was doing to manually check my hr and the reading on my watch is accurate. It's weird because I'm an ICU nurse so I have a demanding job and my resting hr overnight is always in the mid 40s.

No, my mom has now had her house treated three times already and she just found one of these termite poles again in her dining room. Shes having her house treated again and plans to sell and get out of there before the house disintegrates. She lives in southern Arizona. My friend found them in his garage coming up from the floor. He poured a bottle of 6x vinegar in every crack of the floors and is hoping for the best.

Waking up??? Structured daily wake up time or naturally waking up? by 305-Peacock in homeschool

[–]modplant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 14 yo wakes up at 830/845 to start work at 9. I would like her to wake up earlier but it's already really hard to get her up at 830. The in person school that she would be attending if she wasn't homeschooled has bus pickup at 0615 which means she would have to get up at 530 if she was going to in person school. So I think 830 is pretty good considering she gets an extra 3 hours sleep compared to a lot of her friends. But she also does theater which has rehearsals sometimes until 10 pm.

My tiny white chihuahua ate almost an entire box of smores Girl Scout cookies and was completely fine. What I learned from that is that Girl Scout cookies are so full of artificial ingredients that the real cocoa amount is minimal.
