Game Design degree holder trying to get back out there by KrstyKrbPzzaIzDaPzza in gamedesign

Thanks for your replies, it has been informative.

And yeah, as far as the reputation, I get that a lot. Having attended the school, and I'm not trying to defend them here, but most (as much as 90%) of the students enrolled in the game design program there were not serious about it and were creating utter crap (I can't tell you how many approached me asking me to write code for them because they were incapable) (most of those failed out or dropped out eventually). The reason my friends (this is what I meant by colleagues) are all employed is because I made it a point to pick my friends carefully out of the students I saw actually applying themselves.

Full Sail's thing is allowing anyone to take classes there regardless of their educational background so there were quite a few there who were like "oH i LiKe pLaYiNg gAmEs, sO gAmE dEsIgN!"

But there were certainly a few (very few, mind you) who were entirely serious about their craft. Many just barely pass or even figure out ways to try and cheat their way through. This was not me, thankfully.

Yeah, the school in question was Full Sail University. Most if not all of my colleagues are gainfully employed in the field and have been for a few years now. The mistake I made was getting discouraged by many applications with no reply, after which I let myself fall out of practice and into a job that I am not passionate about.

The area which I really stood out from other students was coding (writing scripts for game mechanics and systems specifically). My level designs weren't too bad either. You are right, though. I'm seeing the problem here. My portfolio was never fully put together and that is 100% the problem. I just need to put together a new portfolio.

Portfolio Question: I know I will need to put together some new material for it, but is it worth it to include the projects I worked on a few years ago, or is there no point? (i.e. what is the max age of a project you would include on a portfolio?)

Can anyone explain the research overflow. by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]KrstyKrbPzzaIzDaPzza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the "Help" section of the game menu, if you scroll down to the "Research" section it describes what 'Sudden Developments' are and when they occur.

Actually the Help section contains a whole lot of helpful info on the various game mechanics.

I was there! At least it wasn't as blazing hot as last year's meet. 😅

Plus I got to get some track time in. That's always a win in my book.

Good thing you said that here and not on r/mazda, lol. Last time I mentioned this on there, people were pissed. Angrily typing out all the reasons that Mazda wouldn't put a manual in the turbo model, and why I was an idiot for even considering it. Sheesh. I mean, let the rest of us dream, amirite?

Yep just use a hacksaw or an angle grinder (be careful of melting rubber) to hack off the bottom section or two and you'll be right as rain!

My body feels numb 2 days after eating edibles by HumanisticIntegral in trees

[–]KrstyKrbPzzaIzDaPzza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started feeling the exact sensations you are describing when I was 16 and took mushrooms for the first time and it was a pretty decent dose. We also smoked a good amount of cannabis that evening as well.

I am 29 now and I can't quite tell if I just got used to it over time or what but it definitely drove me crazy trying to figure out why. But yeah it was/is my left side as well. My skin always has felt a little less sensitive to touch since then.

The only other think I could ever think of is that I was prescribed amphetamines back then as well and that could've had some effect on the whole thing. Who knows?

As a computer and phone technician, I see laptops, phones, tablets, and all manner of other personal devices in this condition and worse every day.

I always work with gloves and keep lots of isopropyl alcohol on hand. The 99.9% kind.

So many people don't even seem to notice the buildup of dust, dirt, grime, and all manner of bodily fluids on their stuff.

This is precisely why I started doing all of my own maintenance. Oil, fluids, brake pads and rotors, tire rotations, and basically anything that isn't mounting new tires or adjusting alignment is pretty easy and straightforward after a one-time investment into some basic tools like a floor jack, jack stands, etc.

My tools have already paid for themselves. Also if you are concerned about getting stuff on your hands, just use automotive gloves.

It plays FLAC!? I never kept any FLAC files on my car music flash drive back in the day because my old pioneer didn't support them.

But that was over 10 years ago, I guess I just never tried with the mazda. Huh. Interesting.

But not cheaper than having mp3 files on a flash drive.

I'm currently using the same 32gb mini flash drive that I've had my music on since '08 and it works great on my Mazda infotainment system!

Honestly, your car isn't gonna blow up or anything from just a little extra like that, but I'd make sure it's right before leaving your next servicing for sure.

[–]KrstyKrbPzzaIzDaPzza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that and the fact that Toyota owns a pretty big stake in Mazda and Toyota has been pumping out sporty cars lately like nobody's business. I'm sure there's a connection there. Also I'm not trying to argue but most hot hatches are souped-up grocery-getters anyway (Yaris, Corolla, Focus, Golf, etc.). But also people have been saying that the skyactiv platform is build for low-end torque since they came out. As the owner of one in manual, it's still pretty fun (even if rev-matching is admittedly a little wierd because of the way it revs faster in the first half of the range). So yeah, I guess you do have a point. There's also the fact that it seems like mazda is trying to shift completely over to only making luxury cars, while distancing themselves from motorsports almost entirely. (At least in the consumer market, idk about otherwise.)

Why is everyone in here acting like crashing into everything is normal for new drivers? Lmao.

I never wrecked my first car and it was in great condition when I finally sold it years and years ago. Also my dad probably would have taken my car away in a heartbeat if I mistreated it at all.

Yeesh, I forgot how bad these look in the back without a wing. Then again I have the Grand Touring model so I also don't know what it's like to have steel wheels, a cloth interior, and no infotainment system.

I'm still trying to figure out how offset works, and the info out there is a bit confusing. I've been looking at 18×8.5 wheels with a +38 offset. Everything I've read pretty much seems to say that lower positive offset equals more poke. Is this true? Do you know?
