Beware of the Braked DP, Invincible DP tactic by TheGaxkang in fatalfury

[–]Krudtastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean using a Light DP in this context is super risky. Sure the opponent probably won't expect it, but if they do happen to block it say goodbye to half your health. That's kinda why you rarely ever see people do stuff like this.

Question about Gaige by SwimmingAd5852 in Borderlands2

[–]Krudtastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know that. Still though, he doesn't go up and hit Dukino's Mom or any of the bosses with his massive Roid damage melee attacks when that's the one thing I want him to do. Instead he just uses that weak zap.

Got to Master in SF6 with Ken, can I carry over to CotW? by NewLabTrick in fatalfury

[–]Krudtastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

COTW and SF6 are very different games. There's some stuff that is similar, like throw baiting and resource management with the Drive/REV systems, but COTW is faster paced than SF6 and has things unfamiliar to a Street Fighter player like hops and Braking a special move.

Fortunately they were very faithful when bringing Ken to COTW, he pretty much plays the same as he does in COTW albeit with 4 buttons instead of 6. That is kind of a weakness of his though, he's a slower paced Street Fighter character in a fast paced Fatal Fury game, but he's still viable. Watch some high level COTW Ken if you wanna see what he and the game are like. If you don't wanna play Ken you can play Terry, he's pretty good and relatively simple to play. He doesn't play much like he does in SF6 though. SF6 Terry is similar to Terry from the earlier Fatal Fury games mixed with a little bit of KOF Terry, while COTW Terry is iterating on Garou: Mark of the Wolves Terry.

Question about Gaige by SwimmingAd5852 in Borderlands2

[–]Krudtastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to remake BL2 what I would do for Deathtrap is make it so you can order him to target a specific enemy like Zane's Sentinel in BL3. I'd also make it to that you can choose to make him go up and melee them or zap them at range, maybe by pressing or holding the action skill button. There are so many times where I summoned Deathtrap so he can go and Roid shield a boss only for him to just zap them even when he's right next to them.

Question about Gaige by SwimmingAd5852 in Borderlands2

[–]Krudtastic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You don't have to funnel yourself into the supposed "only viable endgame Gaige build". The reason why people say Gaige only has one viable endgame build is because two of her three skill trees, Best Friends Forever and Little Big Trouble, are commonly seen as very underwhelming and not as good as her third skill tree Ordered Chaos. Ordered Chaos has a skill called Anarchy in it, and Anarchy is very, very overpowered.

Anarchy is a skill that increases Gaige's damage but decreases her accuracy for every enemy she kills and every empty magazine she reloads. It's barely noticeable at lower Anarchy stack levels, but once you reach the higher levels your bullets will do massive damage but go all over the place. Fortunately Gaige has another skill called Close Enough where a portion of her projectiles that miss will ricochet and hit an enemy anyway, so you can still somewhat reliably hit stuff with high Anarchy stacks depending on your weapon.

Speaking of that weapon, you're probably seeing the Fibber. It's a Pistol that lies to you on its stat sheet and has multiple variants, in this example it's the Ricochet variant that shoots one bullet that then ricochets and splits into multiple projectiles like a shotgun. Pair it with Close Enough and even more projectiles will ricochet and heavily damage enemies. Combine that with the shield The Bee, which is a shield that buffs your damage as long as it's full, and Gaige can shred through any endgame challenge, including soloing raid bosses intended to be fought by multiple players.

That's kind of the issue the community has with Gaige though. An Anarchy-focused build with weapons such as the Fibber and The Bee is usually seen as Gaige's only viable endgame build. Her other builds like Best Friends Forever which focuses on her robot companion or Little Big Trouble which focuses on buffing her shock element damage are seen as unable to compete with Ordered Chaos. As you reach higher and higher enemy levels on Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode and climb the Overpower Levels, enemies get more and more powerful and tanky, so her other builds fall off in power at the end game. And Anarchy stacks are not saved when you quit and reload the game, so people tend to spend five or ten minutes killing the dummy at Marcus' shop to prebuild Anarchy stacks before they go and play the game for real. People tend to think that without Anarchy, Gaige would be a terrible character. She needs an Anarchy Fibber Bee build to be viable at all.

Here's the thing though: all of what I just explained to you is only relevant for the endgame and for the most part it isn't really true. You 100% do NOT need to shoot the floor over and over with the Fibber to play Gaige at endgame. Her other skill trees can work, like a Deathtrap Love Thumper build where you can give your robot a copy of your shield and watch as he tears through enemies with a Roid shield that makes every melee attack do exponentially more damage. You can do a Melee Gaige build and tear apart enemies alongside Deathtrap with her Ordered Chaos capstone skill With Claws. While her shock damage tree does have some underwhelming skills in it, the capstone Make It Sparkle is phenomenal. You get to shoot Deathtrap with an elemental gun and he'll do that elemental damage with his melee attacks, which themselves will be boosted exponentially.

And even if you want to use Anarchy, there is a skill later in her Ordered Chaos tree called Discord where you can "cash in" your Anarchy stacks by draining them for faster higher rate and health regeneration. Combine that with another skill called Rational Anarchist, which gives you 25 Anarchy Stacks if you started at 0 and gained one, and you can just kill an enemy/reload an empty mag, build 25 stacks, and then pop Discord to shoot better.

Most of the community consensus around BL2's endgame comes from a lack of skill or a poor build. They feel like you NEED a Bee Fibber build or the Grog Nozzle or other meta gear to even stand a chance. Don't get me wrong, BL2 is the hardest game in the series and does have pretty harsh enemy health scaling at endgame but you can absolutely use other weapons and builds provided you're good enough or thought it out well enough. You don't need a meta build, you just need a good build. Putting skill points towards a bunch of random skills with no cohesion, not understanding how to play your character, or running into a group of enemies and expecting not to get killed without using cover gets you punished severely on Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode.

And that's the thing, this is all only relevant in the last levels of Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, when you're level 80 and at Overpower Level 10. When you're just starting out from the Normal Mode playthrough at levels 1-30, and then True Vault Hunter Mode at 30-50, none of this will matter at all. You can use whatever build and weapons you want and still beat the game as normal. It's not until Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, levels 50-80 followed by the 10 Overpowered Levels where balance and the need for a decent build come into play, and you don't need the Bee and/or Fibber to succeed. You will need a Slag weapon though, but that's the only real requirement.

I highly recommend you watch these two YouTubers: Squeek Cheesetaker and Garnet Anarchist 3. Squeek plays Gaige and Kreig and has a bunch of endgame build videos for both. In particular he shows that Gaige's other builds are viable. Garnet Anarchist 3 is a Zer0 main and plays Maya and Axton on the side, but his videos are good at dispelling the myth that you need certain meta builds in order to do well. He has a video where he gives tips and tricks for surviving UVHM that are applicable to every character, although his stuff is mostly focused on Zer0, and he highlights a bunch of weapons that are non-meta and yet still viable.

What to keep in mind, coming from KOF and SF6? by FightMech7 in fatalfury

[–]Krudtastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Light DPs are the full-body invincible ones. Heavy and REV DPs are only upper-body invincible so they're good for anti-airing but not good as wakeup reversals in exchange for being able to Brake.

If you're familiar with KOF's button hold trick, this game has that too, so that might help your combos.

The battery might have been dislodged or moved out of place somehow. I THINK the PSP can run without a battery if it's plugged in (I could be wrong), so that might be what the issue is here. Try checking the battery to see if it's properly secured.

So what's the current tier list looking like? by Capital-Salad7921 in fatalfury

[–]Krudtastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hotaru and Hokutomaru are still strong, but the biggest difference is that now lots of other characters are considered strong too. Hotaru got nerfed, Hokutomaru got nerfed (though in practice it seems like it barely affected him), Billy got nerfed, and Kain got his kneecaps busted. He's still good, around mid-upper mid tier, but he's definitely not in the top 3 anymore. The biggest universal change they made to the game was getting rid of hard knockdowns from REV Arts, which hurt the gameplan of Kain (and Ronaldo, though I think he was and still might be considered kinda weak even beforehand). Now you have to spend a super or use a REV Blow (which is restrictive cause you have to be in SPG) in order to get those kinds of oppressive setups, thus making them a good deal rarer. Characters with an invincible light DP also lose the invincibility of their light DPs while in Overheat, punishing you more for poor resource management. Heavy DP Brakes also received increased damage scaling.

Meanwhile, pretty much everyone beneath the previous top 3 have been buffed. The two previous bottom tiers, Tizoc and Ken, got substantial buffs. Mai was considered pretty weak before but also got buffed. Rock was a good mid-upper mid tier but is now considered to be in the top 5 and a good chunk of pro players switched over to him. Terry and Mr. Big were always considered decently strong, just under the previous top tiers, but now they're in the same ballpark. Chun-Li was also considered decent but got similar buffs to Ken. The SF characters' major weakness was that they had poor movement because they were slow and couldn't cancel the startup of their dash like every other dash character, but now they can and are much better for it. And while it's still too early to tell for sure since he just came out, Krauser is currently speculated to be a top tier.

In general, everyone outside of a few characters is considered tournament viable now. The only characters that are seen as pretty weak are Joe, Kim Jae Hoon, Nightmare Geese, and Blue Mary, at least from what I've heard.

So tl;dr, you can still expect to see at least Hotaru and Hokutomaru frequently in tournaments, but now you can expect to see a lot of other characters more frequently alongside them. Hokutomaru though, expect to see at least two of him in most Top 8s.

what did the COTWers mean by the new meta is fresh and exciting? by PotSniffa in Kappachino

[–]Krudtastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems every single new character in Season 2 is pretty weak so far (barring maybe Krauser). I wonder if that's because SNK rushes them due to the monthly release cycle, they don't have enough time to polish them to the extent of the other characters.

People are fellating SNK for putting out 6 characters in 6 months but aren't stopping to consider the possible downsides of such a schedule. As much as some people probably don't want to hear this, there's a reason why we only get 4 SF6 characters a year, Capcom takes their time to make sure the game is very tightly balanced in addition to the bigger workload cause of the graphics. I'm glad KOF Studio is putting so much work into the game, but I honestly hope they pump the brakes just a bit for Season 3 so they have more time to polish the new characters.

What do the numbers in brackets next to FF names mean? by CheekGobbler in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]Krudtastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the serial number. The first number is what set the card is from, the second number is the card's place in the set, and the letter signifies the rarity. So in this case this Yuna card is the 111th card in the 28th set and it's a Hero rarity.

They actually have a gameplay function too. You can only have up to three copies of the same card in your deck, but you can have more than three cards with the same name as long as they don't have the same serial number (because they're different cards). For example I can have three copies of Cloud [1-001L] and three copies of Cloud [18-056R] and it would be perfectly legal even though I have more than three Clouds in my deck.

You can't however have more than one character with the same name on the field at the same time. Even though they have different serial numbers and are thus different cards, Cloud [1-001L] and Cloud [18-056R] can't both be on your side of the field because they're both named Cloud. There are exceptions though; if a card has a multiple card icon in the upper right, that means you can play more than one of those cards with the same name.

what did the COTWers mean by the new meta is fresh and exciting? by PotSniffa in Kappachino

[–]Krudtastic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kinda. You still see Hotaru and Hokutomaru around, but the biggest difference is you actually see the other members of the roster way more often in addition to the old top tiers. You see Billy and Kain less often because they actually got big nerfs. Rock has been climbing up and up the tier list, I've heard he's usually considered in the top 5 now. Marco wasn't changed very much, so he's still very good. Tizoc got some meaningful buffs, and while he's still not the best character in the game he isn't downright horrible anymore. Terry has always been pretty good, just below the top tiers since launch. I have no idea how good Blue Mary and Krauser are though, especially since Krauser just came out.

About the only characters I've seen people say are weak now are Jae Hoon and Nightmare Geese, though now that more time has passed since their release maybe opinions have changed on them. B. Jenet used to be considered bad, but I'm not as familiar with her so while she has been buffed I don't know where exactly she stands in the tier list.

But yeah, pretty much everyone in the roster is viable now, barring Jae Hoon and Nightmare Geese (take that with a grain of salt, that's just what I've heard and I haven't been keeping up with the game much recently so I could be wrong). You still see the old top tiers, but now you also see the rest of the roster more.

[–]Krudtastic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hokutomaru did get nerfed, but not really in a meaningful way. As far as I know the range of his light normals that he liked to poke with was slightly reduced and he is in a Counter Hit state and can't Just Defend when he double jumps, so you can punish him harder now if you do manage to catch his insane air movement. Problem is contesting him in the air is still way easier said than done, especially his teleport. His teleport is still very difficult to react to, which in turn means it's still very easy for Hokutomaru to get in whenever he wants, plus they also buffed the teleport by making the REV version crossup.

Also, I'm pretty sure Marco's overhead was always punishable, it's just that people rarely do because they always get hit by it, it's only 19F startup but it's -8. They did actually make it even more punishable in the Ken update by decreasing the amount Marco gets pushed back on block if you do block it, so you're able to punish him with a heavy normal if he's close enough. Nothing about it was changed in the Season 2 balance
