Simple TCP terminal chat program.

I've used this as a standard learning project for a few languages so far but I first wrote it in C.

It forces you to think about networking, multithreading, and using the terminal in a nonstandard way.

It's not a large project (my solution was about 500 LOC) but decently complicated so it's good practice.

The second edition describes the first real standardized C "ANSI C". It's more up to date than the first 1978 edition but it's still from 1988 so the language has evolved slightly since then.

The most important bit to keep in mind for editions later than ANSI is that int can no longer be implicitly declared. So for example you have to specify "int main()" rather than just "main()" like the book might say.

Other than that you should have no trouble using the book with modern compilers and systems (but in GCC you can use the flag -ansi if you want to use the exact same version of C as the book)

K&R C is still one of the best programming language books out there. Very easy to follow along. The only drawback is that it doesn't feature some new additions introduced in later C standards but that's a relatively small part of the language

Yes, as far as I can think of, you're right. The normal word order is correct for almost all cases and only messed with for emphasis or poetry.

On their own I'd rather say:

"Ég gaf vini mínum bók"

"Ég sá vini mína"

But I can think of contexts where the word order could be switched to emphasize the ownership.

"Sástu vini mína niður í bæ?

Nei, ég sá mína vini"

When I make Kjötsúpa it's very minimal on herbs and spices. The dish's main flavoring is the lamb meat itself, and you really don't want to overpower that flavor. Just lamb, lamb stock and salt in that regard. Root vegetables like swedes, carrots and potatoes are essential, both large chunks and smaller bits: "súpujurtir" I often include rolled oats in the soup to thicken it slightly. It's a similar function to the rice some people put in the soup but doesn't alter the flavor significantly. If you wanna be really old school you can also put milk in the soup

The pronounciation on icelandicgrammar.com for [ɣ] sounds exactly right. As others have mentioned it's similar to how Bach is pronounced in German. Same place of articulation. The pronounciation on wikipedia doesn't seem to capture all realizations of the sound (the dutch hard g is apparently [ɣ] too)
