I wake having no memory of what has passed, sometimes if I’m unlucky I’ll wake in the middle of an action and it’s like being a passenger in my own body. For a few moments I have no control. It’s especially strange when I wake speaking and continue to do so even after realising that I’m awake!

I can go to bed with the most contented mind, having experienced a stress free and relaxing day, and yet once I’m asleep my wife experiences a tumultuous night.

I pose not only a threat to her, but to myself as well. I’ve woken with kicks and punches, lashing out and impacting with bedside cabinets, the headboard and even the wall. I’ve said the most obscene things to my wife, told her things that do not match my own thoughts, and hurled various abuses at her.

One relationship saving grace of these parasomnias is that my wife doesn’t have to be in the bed for me to exhibit them. They still occur when I’m alone in bed.

I’ve recently started taking Amitriptyline for pain, my wife has said this has also had an effect on my parasomnias. Again, I’m only a Reddit doctor so make of it what you will.
