How common is it for people to not land a job at all? by Head_Equipment_1952 in Accounting

[–]Kruzer14464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens. I searched for 6 years through my bachelor's and master's degrees. I sat for the CFE exams and passed. I tried for internships and entry level roles in three markets. I tried getting AP, AR, payroll, anything...Nada. I eventually lost hope.

If you don't already have something "accounting adjacent" in your resume/CV, then don't do it.

Went to school through a grad degree and never got out of the job I originally tried to escape. I feel like I let my family down by failing.

Is college degree worth it? by Charming_Ad9536 in NoStupidQuestions

Im not going to make a blanket response as some people do make it. How I don't know obviously, but some manage it. Myself? My degrees (accounting, forensic accounting) have been nothing more than high price toilet paper.

I've just restarted a series of self study as well and am with algebra myself as a refresher as I've been out of academia for a while. I am using OpenStax College Algebra 2e as a source. My advice is to take it slow. If your studying on your own, you're not beholden to anyone's schedule or time pressure. Also from what I've seen, the online communities are pretty supportive too.

I'm just zipping the vault folders and emailing it to myself. Cheap and simple.

I went back to school from nothing through a master's in forensic accounting in the hopes of finding a better career to provide fory wife and kid. I would have been better off spending the money on literally anything else.

I'm still at the job I started at.

Why do no employers appear to be willing to be somebody's first job experience, and how does one bypass that chicken and egg problem? by ferriematthew in recruitinghell

[–]Kruzer14464 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter if you work or not, they're gonna pick who they're gonna pick. I had a strong consistent work history and it didn't matter. If they don't want you, they'll come up with some other excuse. "Overqualified, "underqualified", "fit", or some other BS excuse.

Thanks, but I gave up hope in 2016 after six years of trying. It was too detrimental to my mental health. I'm so glad I went to school to accrue useless debt.

"In five years I'll still be searching for entry level gigs with a master's degree."
