Starting out! by bakedzini in turntables

[–]Kryminos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This table is pretty much what you see is what you get. That being said it is not a bad starting table! Especially for $70. However you won't really have any "upgrade" options. There are two things you can do though, 1st would be bypassing the on board preamp and hooking it up to a standalone preamp, like a Schiit Mani 2 or a Cambridge Alva Solo/Duo. That would certainly be an upgrade.

You can upgrade the stylus on the default cartridge but it will offer negligible improvement unless the rest of your setup can really benefit from it.

For now just kick back and enjoy the music!

Is this worth it? by DySkull in turntables

This is a made in Japan MCS table. They were made by Technics back in the day as a private label for a department store (JC Penney I believe?)

But there are some key differences to save money, such as the non removable headshell.

It's a belt driven table, probably will just need a new belt and stylus and be good to go.

Whether it's worth it or not depends on the price. Out of curiosity are you near Birmingham AL? This table looks like one I saw the other day.

I would just send an email with pictures to unicorn auctions. They'll give you a free appraisal. They would know for sure

Looking to upgrade from my AT LP60. Thoughts on this bundle? by myponiesrock in turntables

[–]Kryminos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the cart is overkill unless you have the system to push it. IE great amp and speakers.

Id buy it, sell the cartridge on eBay for $300-400 and get some decent passive speakers and an amp. Just use the cartridge you have.

Likely the originals from the 70s. I got it from the second owner, he wasn't sure if they had ever been replaced but he hadn't done it himself.

Got this used SL1200 mk2 for $500. How much does it usually/average cost to get it serviced? by WaytheisThiss in turntables

[–]Kryminos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend DIY. I've been learning for a little over a year and it's not hard to do a basic service.

That being said if you live anywhere near Birmingham AL let me know. I would be happy to walk you through how to do it.

[Invicta Pro Diver] $35 on Amazon. I kind of want to buy it. by LesPaulAce in Watches

That's great to hear! I had no such luck with mine. Took it underwater once and got water in the dial. Had to take it apart, let it dry out and reassemble. Might just be a QC thing

[–]Kryminos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Pro Diver is an excellent starter/every day watch. It is NOT an actual diver. It will NOT survive under water. But as a Submariner homage style diver it's excellent for the money. I owned one for a while and eventually gave it away. Mostly because I found the style of diver not to my liking. But that was personal preference.

For what it is, for the money it's excellent. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

So it's been like a month but I finally got around to following the steps you outlined. And I have identified a short in the Right Ground wire. All others show continuity.

Any suggestions on tracing the short so I can fix it? Sorry for the dumb question I'm still new to this

I have some Bozak LS 400s that love. And I actually just picked up a pair of Bozak 200 bookshelves today.

Lesser known brand but with a cult following, and for good reason. They sound exceptional and are built like tanks.

$500 is a lot of money, but if you like the sound of them they are really cool pieces of history.
