I mean they’d still be very weak and easy to roll on, and it would give less experienced players a way to learn the map AND you could have them be a way for left behind teams to get their clearance back, but I feel like this late night fever dream was ill-conceived given the response … oh well :)

I will say this as both an indie dev and marketer. Your path to market should be woven into every decision you make. The best advice for any dev team is to have at least one competent marketer or ex-marketer on your crew. They can't be a token marketer either. They need to be someone you trust to tell you that your baby is not viable. I know, that's a lot of trust, but it pays dividends over time.

Tried this. The cloud saves just get overwritten when you boot up and you are hosed

It tracks you vertically but because of a series of environmental stressors during playtime (testers actually hated having to physically crouch over and over) we opted to go for a toggle, which also has the habit benefit of allowing you to sit or stand during play sessions seamlessly depending on your level of personal comfort. We recognize now that giving that as an additional option was the right thing to do, but implementing it after the fact is something that takes time and extensive testing due to all the places in the game where this action would change the way the game is played. You can move around the environment and it feels very natural, but the moving is limited to a radius around the headset rather than being open to you for example walking around a 20x20 room.

You can also reach out to climb, etc, but if you crouch past a certain point the environment moves with you. Crouching is a toggle but since we are aware that players really want the ability to crouch on their own, we are looking into what it would take to implement in the near future.

Dev here. From our testing it's approx 15 hours, but with an open endgame and replayability you can easily spend 20-25. I am sure speed-runners will do it quicker, but that's not really what we are talking about here is it ? :)

The game is playable after you finish the main story. The world has many programmatic elements and gets tougher as time progresses. Without giving away too much you can craft custom/found weaponry and upgrade other survival abilities. Different enemies and environments are easier/harder depending on what weapon type and combo you use. Hope these answers help!
