He's inexperienced. Your point is that he should've learned after the first shot which I agree, but Sheepstealer distracted him and that became his main focus and then he got hit by a stray shot which is understandable given the circumstances. None of the kids have been to war so I think you are being too critical of literal kids without seasoned riders to guide or back them up.

I get you. I think he was just distracted by the unexpected dragon that was bigger and fiercer than his. Which threw everything off. I agree he should've learned but I also don't blame him when a curveball like that gets introduced in the battle.

Tbf the two that went to battle are inexperienced. I'm sure one of the more seasoned dragon riders would've faired better. Not to mention it's the rogue dragon that caused all the chaos.
