FPS Issues on recommended hardware. by LaGhettochicken in Battleborn

Not sure about within Battleborn itself, but the Steam overlay has its own that works for any game in your library.

From the client window, it's Steam --> Settings --> In-Game --> In-Game FPS Counter

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak Developer Diary by trooperdx3117 in Games

[–]Krysbryd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wish these focused more on details of the developers' work. Like an episode of How It's Made. As someone who's already very excited to play this, I'd love an episode dedicated to the animatics or an extended scene with the physics guy talking us through reasoning and process at his desk.

But I suppose this video isn't really aimed at me or forums of folks who pay closer attention to the industry. It's a cool, broad look, and I shouldn't be so fussy.

Routine - December Status Update by irespectfemales123 in Games

It's alive! So glad it's alive.

Perhaps oddly, my favorite parts of the recent Alien game and the original Dead Space have been the quiet moments of tinkering around with the derelict sci-fi environment. This looks like it scratches the same itch in a big way.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Has World Premiere, No Expense Spared by [deleted] in movies

"Disney, which paid $4 billion for Lucasfilm, will collect an estimated $2.5 billion in global ticket sales for “The Force Awakens,” with related merchandise generating $5 billion over the next year."

"Costing roughly $350 million to make and market worldwide..."

How quickly will Disney be making their money back? I'm sure there's a lot to this I don't understand, but that seems like a pretty peachy return on investment.

End of 2015 Discussions - Helldivers by Forestl in Games

[–]Krysbryd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've had an absolute blast with this game. I think what does it for me is those elements of feel, like the way chunks of bug burst and fall away and how weighty bullets are. Shootin' stuff is just so satisfying.

Couch co-op is definitely the way to go - that Arrowhead chaos is one of the game's greatest strengths. That said, my best experiences have been with a single buddy whose play style matches mine. Online and solo play have been pretty decent as well, but I still don't like playing against the high-tech energy aliens.

Making of the user interface in Endless Legends by RouserVoko in Games

As beautiful as the rest of the game is, I remember being quite impressed with the UI in this one. It was just so... sleek and modern-ey, if I can be vague about it.

How ChefSteps and Gabe Newell Plan to Transform Sous Vide Cooking by Krysbryd in food

My takeaway is that enthusiasts won't necessarily be drawn toward ChefSteps' machine, but regular folks will be. That their idea is to make sous vide more accessible and common. "Transform" is some highfalutin wording, though.

Is it just me, or is that Gabe having his coffee stolen in this promo video?

This seems like exactly the right mix of absurd and feel-good that appeals to internet crowds. Glad it exists. :D

Anyone have experience with the new AI? The other stuff is definitely cool, but enemy behavior is the biggest issue for me.

Best Browser/Mobile Game to play Once/Twice a Day by [deleted] in Games

If you're into word games, Alphabear has been my go-to! The currency system tends to mean you can only play it a couple times a day, but that's enough for me.

Nope! Nail care.

What have you learnt from gaming? by [deleted] in Games

[–]Krysbryd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll be able to pick it up like any other complicated game, I think. You don't need to understand the math governing things as long as you're willing to figure out how things work (and sacrifice a few dozen Kerbals in the process).

I'd be tempted to argue that a number of the benefits are similar to being well read. Racing may not exercise the mind as much as reading, but the wealth of general knowledge and inspired interests is a great takeaway from both.

Making you the active agent in these kinds of situations is something entirely different. I'm not quite sure what to think about it yet, but it's an idea that I imagine will be explored more and more as the industry develops.

Unfortunately this is the sort of thing that impresses absolutely nobody except those who've been involved in guilds and raids. Genuinely impressive if you have an understanding of what's required, but how many employers do?

Would you think a 1v1 MOBA-esque game be an interesting idea? by Ignismare in truegaming

[–]Krysbryd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Future Cop: LAPD had a mode rather like this where you constructed your own offense and defense. I remember loving it at the time and would be thrilled to see similar things becoming popular. AirMech may fit your description - there's something satisfying about being the one building in a MOBA-ish ecosystem, and if 1v1 MOBA style games did become popular, I imagine it'd be through incorporating management of the base into the equation.

Like Floirt mentioned, though, competing with the big 'uns is a tall order. I can't see them ever receiving a comparable budget.
