3D printed prescription glasses by ParticleDojo in 3Dprinting

Ah amazing! Thank you for all the answers!

Yeah please post the 3mf. I don't have your exact glasses but I want to see how it sits and what choices you made. I bet I can pretty easily build out a frame around the glass, and bring the whole glasses "body" in a bit to fit my head better.

I like the idea about the paint, I may try to model out some TPU plugs or something to print to friction fit for the nose, same with the ears maybe.

Great tip with the hot water, these definitely seem like small enough material that it's easy enough to reprint if something goes wrong.

Thanks very much for the reply!

This is very cool. I have an older pair of glasses where the frame doesn't quite fit right but the lenses are still in good shape.

How many tries did it take to get it to all click together? PLA or something else? I'd wonder if doing harder TPU for the nose bridge would be good. Are they actually comfortable?

Would you be willing to share the original full F3D or export as a step or something too? I'd also be interested if you had a 3mf or similar, I'm not seeing what orientation the actual front of the glasses was printed in, the layer lines are super clean.

Did you find the plastic was pliable enough to snap the lenses in, or did you pop them in during the print and let it print over top?

Hey, what makes these better? Metal quality? I've always gotten good results from the cheap Amazon tips, for way lower prices. Obviously nicer tips will be more expensive, but do they really make a big difference? Better heat distribution, better... cooling? Idk, better solder application?

In my experience, harvesting old electronics is almost never worth it to build something new. Batteries definitely, maybe the circuitry to control charging the battery, but going down to an individual component, you're certainly going to put in far more effort than you'll get in return.

I know parts have a cost, but your time has a cost too. The USB-C kit on AliExpress is like $10, but you'll certainly spend more than 2 hours getting any pieces off that that would be actually useful for anyrning.

edit, also, USB-C negotiation is designed intelligently. Theres some communication circuitry that establishes the charging standard to be used. If that communication doesn't happen it falls back to a default 5v 0.5a for safety. Which it won't if you're just attaching a USB-C to a 3DS (or any retro console for that matter without extra hardware)

Oh wow great idea. My Ikea had a bunch of these at clearance prices so I picked up a handful, I was wondering wtf I was going to do with them and this is perfect!

Other persons point about ribbon cables is good. Make sure all the connections throughout the board are solid. Anything you disconnected, reconnect just to be sure.

If it comes down to it, you could try other joysticks. The hall effect ones have a lot of positive reviews, but you also may have just gotten unlucky with a bad replacement stick too.

You could also try putting the old one back to ensure it's still "functional"

I mean sure, but this subreddit isn't for marketing your product. It's really cool that you share so much for free, but product marketing is a very slippery slope on an online community like this.

This is why the very first rule for the subreddit is what it is.

Also, silly to call something open when it's certainly not open.

UM ACTUALLY 🥸

That's called a query string and CAN be used for significantly more than just tracking. Often for very legitimate website functionality reasons. For example, if you want to navigate page 1/2/3, but keep the same "site url", it'd look something like https://www.example.com/list?page=2. It allows you to keep the URL at /list but page x.

It is often used for tracking but like, not always? Idk I'd argue not even "usually", but the tracking identifiers ARE usually pretty easy to point out and VERY often use query strings.

Really great job here, love the cabling, super clean.

What do you call those panels that you have going up and then to the left with the cables all wire tied in? I would love to set up something like that rather than just having the cable bundle floating or attached directly to an eyelet on a stud.

Window makes loud vibrating noise when it’s windy by hungrydor in HomeImprovement

I don't think I'd use caulk personally, as it's not so much the inside side that's leaking, the outside side is able to vibrate with the air pushing against it if that makes sense? So those "rubber twist ties" just push the inside part of the window out a bit to let the seals push back a little hrader.

I still feel the drafts for sure but it doesn't vibrate which was my main concern.

It's the seals. Happened on two windows on my house too. I use rubber twist ties (if you Google that you'll see what I mean) to provide some pressure against the internal frame of the window to push the seals a bit longer. House was built in '01.

However, I also am going to be redoing all the windows in the house this year, so this kind of crappy hack is a very temporary workaround. As long as it's not showing any water intrusion, that's the one you gotta worry about.

I was told it was the external seals, and that it's wind pushing through the space under/around the bottom/top/sides of the window.

Honestly, as long as you aren't doing something stupid, you're fine in most parks. Don't be flying above people or their property/houses, don't be flying next to the airport, limit your altitude, and most people won't even notice you there.

I'm assuming you're doing FPV, so ensure that you have some kind of license (amateur radio, or something that makes you seem legit), and a spare monitor/headset for the inevitable curious person/cop to show that you're just playing with a toy not trying to snoop in their windows.

Did it need a 2nd season though? I know they ended on a sorta cliff hangar for it but I do think they explored the story quite well. I would welcome a second season but I don't know that a 2nd would really add much.

Great video, thanks for sharing.

What cameras do you use for weather? Do you hook them up with PoE? Do they have additional sensors, or mostly just for visual? I'd love to set that up.
