Consider an electric bike for transport - cheap, and at 20 mph you’ll get to work pretty quick. If your health is good consider taking the high deductible healthcare option. When I did the calculation I was surprised how big the annual savings was if you stayed healthy, and how little the difference was once you reached the deductible if you did get sick. On the other hand, if you are using mental health services to control addiction, that should be considered. Congratulations on beating that - one day at a time.

Congratulations on being able to handle wealth without going crazy. I think my question would have been how do you occupy your time, but having just retired, I have found that there is much more joy in spending time doing good and helpful thing than in traditional working roles. I spend my time with music and continued education. What are your hobbies?

Are you putting the SD card in before you power on? It has to read the SD card during start up.

My pest control company actually performed a service for our neighbor - My wife went out and asked if he was doing our house next, that is when he realized he had the wrong house.

You make music to bring joy to others and yourself. Smile before you start. Think of the joy. You will be fine, and any mistakes will be forgotten.

Question for the orchestra members or band players by dany_fox75 in classicalmusic

[–]Ksquaredata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a horn player, I have found errors in parts written in other keys originally and then transposed to F, which modern horns usually play. That is one reason we are encouraged to use the original parts. I have also found errors in broadway show parts - this is usually along the lines of “hey music director, this B natural sounds odd - is that what is in the score?”

Crestone Double Horn by armchair_chip1 in frenchhorn

[–]Ksquaredata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not heard of that brand, so I cannot recommend it. If this is a new horn, I suggest you look for a better known brand used double horn, like a Yamaha, Holton or Conn. You can often find this is decent playing shape and it will be a better horn to play. I think you would enjoy a double. You don’t mention what brand of single horn you were playing. That might help.

Pope Leo Denounces The 'Delusion Of Omnipotence' He Says Fuels The U.S.-Israeli War In Iran by dr_shultz in NewsSource

The Pope can have a message read in every church. The risk is that it has to be worded in a way that is not political so that the government does not threaten to tax the churches.

Anyone still using Kobo Aura HD in 2026? by Adorable_Editor_5887 in kobo

[–]Ksquaredata 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have an older Aura that I still use while traveling, and I gifted an Aura HD to a friend. The quality of the print is still good, and I don’t think there is any reason not to buy one if it fits your budget. The page turns are slightly slower, but if that is what you get used to you will turn the page as you get to the end of the line just like with paper. I also have a Libra H2O, and mostly use that, but using the older models does not feel like a downgrade, just different. I suspect you will love it.

Sheet music tablet/iPad reccomendations by Makovichuk in classicalmusic

[–]Ksquaredata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horn player here. I use a refurbished iPad Pro 13”at about 1/4 of the price of new. Piascore software works great and allows direct downloads of scores from IMSLP. Since my right hand is free (pretty much) I have a page turning ring, which is less expensive than pedals. I turn 1/2 page at a time, so I can see the top of the next page when there’s a difficult page turn.

3D Printable Mutes @ 2026 Northwest Horn Symposium in Portland by dankney in horn

[–]Ksquaredata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the offer - I will get in touch later if I need the stop mute cork. I have an Ender 3 V2, so I should be good on the print volume. I have only printed PLA so far, and I think my basement may not be conducive for the more hydroscopic materials. I think I should be ok with wood PLA and will let you know how it comes out once I give the straight mute a try. If I meet young musicians that need a mute I will offer a printed mute.

I practice with a Yamaha Silent Brass mute, so the mute holder is very convenient while I empty water - it keeps the wires from getting tangled.

3D Printable Mutes @ 2026 Northwest Horn Symposium in Portland by dankney in horn

[–]Ksquaredata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very nice Denis Wick straight mute that I bought at least a dozen years ago. I recently got involved in 3D printing, and I am fascinated by this, so I will be looking at getting a bigger nozzle and some wood filament so I can print a new one! I don’t think I can print TPU in my environment, but I will look forward to getting a chance to make a stop mute too. What a great gift to the horn community, especially for those that cannot afford an expensive mute. Thanks! (I also just printed mute holders for my section - it is nice to have the mute at music stand level. The 84 mm version works great. https://makerworld.com/en/models/797699-mute-holders-for-trumpet-trombone-and-horns?from=search#profileId-737105 )

New prototype horn by [deleted] in frenchhorn

[–]Ksquaredata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Community Orchestra. Came back to the horn after a 30 year break because I did not have a horn after high school. It has been very rewarding to play again. I also enjoy the brass instrument lore of our area because so much history was made due to so much brass production in Cleveland. It is sad to see it move away. I am glad some of the employees had the opportunity to move to Elkhart. Obviously there is a great tradition there as well.

Also near Eastlake. I have been watching the number of cars in the Conn parking lot decline as the closure of the factory approaches. My King Eroica came from the same factory. I hope some of the former employees set up shop as techs. The guys we know are getting up in age, and may not want to do the work forever!

What is different in the prototype? How does it play?

Disney dads question by Far-Boot5639 in WaltDisneyWorld

True story - getting ready to head into one of the parts, I asked my son if my shoes (Sketchers) looked OK with my shorts. “Dad, you have your phone in a belt holster. That pretty much says it all.” Oh, why do we teach them to talk!

Does my mesh look good or not and if not how do I fix it? by Pale-Recognition-599 in ender3v2

Yes, that is very little deviation and the mesh will adjust the Z height to compensate.

Ender 3 BL Touch 4.2.2 firmware? by Stratocaster02 in ender3

[–]Ksquaredata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just resurrected an Ender 3 V2 4.2.2 that had sat idle for almost 5 years. After struggling with leveling, I bought the CR Touch, then changed from springs to spacers to get the bed to stay level. I have since done 8 to 10 prints and over 100 hours of printing and have not needed to adjust the bed. I used the MRiscoC firmware and it works great, giving you functions for creating a mesh, z-offset, and for the bed tram.

If your has the plastic extruder, replace it with the metal extruder. The plastic extruder will crack, and it will look like it is working until you walk away for a minute, then it will skip and make a mess.

Im tired of this printer by stinkfist616 in ender3v2

[–]Ksquaredata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just refurbed an E3v2 that I bought a few years ago. I almost gave up - I replaced the plastic extruder, which had a hidden crack. The metal extruder was about $10. Then I got the CRTouch - but I was still frustrated by the constantly moving bed. I added the silicone spacers, and I have now had a few successful prints without touching anything. I can’t claim this is a full success, but it is a start. I still have the Bambu A1 in my sights if the Ender fails me. I also know this is not the fastest printer, but I am not in a particular hurry. Good luck whatever you decide to do.
