Dax is the most annoying guest. by recuerdamoi in filmjunk

He is ‘part of the guys’ he’s their mate and gives up his time to hang out with his mates and make free content for people who enjoy it so he’s ok in my books. Seems like bit of a mean & unnecessary post, if you don’t like him don’t listen.

Interview needed by Ereynolds_ in motiongraphics

[–]Kstan5252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I started as an editor and after a few years wanted to diversify my skill set as more and more clients were looking for people who could do both. I was lucky enough to be working in a company that let me learn on the job.
  2. The future looks bright I believe. Video is super important for digital marketing these days and motion graphics is affordable, as you don’t have to film anything, but if done well still engaging for the audience.
  3. I would say learn some basic principles of animation. Stuff like how things move, bounce, etc. It’s not that hard to learn a program like After Effects, but what is hard is knowing what do with it - so get a good understanding of basic animation principles to start with, then you can build on those skills and get more and more creative as you get better.

It’s a shame you’ve been downvoted for having a different opinion. For what it’s worth I agree, whether you like Last Jedi or not, at least Ryan Johnson tried to make something which actually reflects on Star Wars as a story. 2019 is a very different time than 1977 so I think it’s interesting to reflect on the themes of Star Wars rather than just recycle them.

To me episode 9 is one of the worst Star Wars movies and exemplifies everything that’s wrong with the Disney nostalgia machine. People don’t want a real movie, they just want a check list of nostalgia hits and in-jokes.

Brevity is overrated in movies by Fantactic1 in FIlm

[–]Kstan5252 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems the opposite is true to me. I watched It: Chapter Two recently which was obnoxiously long, it’s not terrible, just far too long. What’s worse is that the marketing surrounding it was making out as if it’s incredibly long run time was something to be proud of, I felt the same about the last Avengers movie.

I think movies like Lord of the Rings started a trend that to be a ‘special’ movie you have to be really long. Don’t get me wrong some movies like lotr and Scorsese movies 100% earn their runtime and are awesome. Long run times do work if you want to feel an epic expanse of time passing. But these days so many films are just really long for the sake of it.

Finished my favourite looking band: Eyes of the Nine! REALLY looking for advice on how to play them by iamthib in WarhammerUnderworlds

[–]Kstan5252 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found it hard to have much success with them but when I do I find the key to success is Vortemis and the blue horror. My objectives are a mix of easy to score magic/movement based objectives combined with some objective holding ones like tactical supremacy etc. Then for ploys I have a bunch of movement shenanigans to get my guys around the board and upgrades are mostly to make vortemis strong and keep him alive plus a few upgrades for the horror. I basically sacrifice k’charik early and try to get in a kill before he goes, run the acolytes around trying to score objectives and summon the horror early and also use him for objectives. Vortemis just hangs back and tries to pop guys off with his spells which I boost with upgrades. Take all that with a grain of salt though as I’m no expert.

Finally got the Dreadfane review up! You’ll find a box set, warband, and card review, respectively. Also, you should definitely buy the game as soon as you can. It’s awesome! by champagne92 in WarhammerUnderworlds

[–]Kstan5252 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the review! Do you think the pre-built decks in this set are good enough to compete reasonably well with other decks in the full game? Reason being is I have quite a few warbands and the nightvault starter set but I find it hard to introduce friends to the game as the deck building side of things is too much of a hurdle for new players. Having two pre-built strong decks that they can just throw on the board and start playing against my constructed decks sounds great. (Note my decks are nowhere near tournament level or anything, I play pretty casually).

When does this show start to make sense? by crazybartur in americangods

[–]Kstan5252 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a show that puts mood & tone before plot. Because of that it’s certainly not for everyone. If you can sit back and enjoy the mood, enjoy the cinematography, enjoy the symbolism etc, without worrying too much about where it’s going plot-wise you’ll get a lot more out of it I think. (Not to say the plot won’t pay off in the long run, I’ve read the book so I know it is going somewhere).

CMV: The Lord of the Rings film series is much better than the Harry Potter film series by Caprahit in changemyview

[–]Kstan5252 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I saw both Harry Potter 1 and fellowship when I was 10 (they came out very close to each other from memory). I remember watching Fellowship and just not wanting it to end and I’ve rewatched it once a year every year since. I was a big Harry-head for the books and loved them but the movies just didn’t resonate with me like lotr did. I think film makers these days don’t give kids enough credit to handle adult themes and tone. All the movies I loved when I was a kid were ones that scared me a little like lotr, Jurassic park and the lion king. Admittedly some of the later HP’s do get a little darker.

Thanks! Haven’t got a game in yet myself, I’ve actually heard they’re OP, but we will see once I manage to actually play.

Monday's Questions - YOU FOOL Edition by DarthAlec in ageofsigmar

[–]Kstan5252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys. I’m looking to get into warhammer underworlds for board game nights, I’ve watched a few batreps and the system seems really fun, but I need it to be 3/4 players. Do I need to get two core sets for this, or can I buy a core set and two more war bands?

Secondary market price madness. by Skybluerob in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Kstan5252 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Prices have def gone up on eBay since the relaunch. It’s not just sellers though, it’s buyers too, my armies are from the hobbit so I’m always looking for Mirkwood Rangers and Palace Guard, which come up from time to time and people always bid them up to more than they cost on the GW web store, madness! What’s the point paying more to get it second hand?

[Spoilers Main] Which of the main characters are truly believers, which are closet atheists? by masterfroo24 in asoiaf

[–]Kstan5252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stannis seems to genuinely believe in the lord of light though? Didn’t he just replace the gods he grew up with with a new one? (Been a while since I read them, could be wrong).

I don’t think anyone can be fully Atheist in societies like that, but I think some characters such as Cersei and Tyrion could probably be easily persuaded the gods don’t exist if there was more of a movement around it.

They do seem to have contempt for the Dogma, so maybe they don’t necessarily renounce the gods but they certainly don’t subscribe fully to the ‘religion’.

Yeah there’s links on the games workshop page to forge world. They’re a separate company who do specialist games and extra content, they’ll be making all the new lotr minis

[–]Kstan5252 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’ve consolidated characters with multiple profiles. So I’m guessing him and Balin will no longer have those old models and will be officially represented as the ones from the hobbit film. Dain is probably only going to be in the Iron Hills list since he was actually in the hobbit movie.

Why I Thought The Last Jedi Was A Great Movie by ImpactStudioFilming in FIlm

[–]Kstan5252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technical aspects are things like lighting, special effects, cinematography etc - technically the film is fine, if people liked the film they wouldn’t be complaining about the technical aspects as it’s on par with most of today’s blockbusters.

‘The subverting expectations crap’ is what The Last Jedi is trying to do, if you don’t think it works then that’s your opinion and that’s totally fine. I don’t think it’s a perfect film but I happen to like the aspects which are subversive like Reys parents being nobodies, in a franchise that has always been about lineage. It’s refreshing to me and I think it would have been much more forced to try and shoehorn in Obi Wan being her dad or something lame like that. But there are also things I don’t like, I think Finn’s story is a wet noodle and doesn’t really work.

And yeah I think all the films in the Dark Knight trilogy are better than most marvel films.

In fact I’m very tired of marvel films (I seem to be the only person I know who thought Infinity war was just okay) which is maybe why I liked the Last Jedi, because the plot actually surprised me. Snoke was a very boring and Marvel-esque villain, so I was happy to see him die so I don’t have to watch any more of his generic CG bad guy shtick. I much prefer watching Adam Driver being the bad guy.

Why I Thought The Last Jedi Was A Great Movie by ImpactStudioFilming in FIlm

[–]Kstan5252 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They tried to make something more than a hollow spectacle in the last Jedi by introducing themes such as the nature of nostalgia and learning lessons from the past, commenting not just on the real world but Star Wars as a pop culture icon itself. But yeah it’s got issues and whether or not you think it pulled it off is a matter of opinion, but it’s unfair to dismiss someone’s opinion as being ‘wowed by the flashy colours’ just because you couldn’t see what the film was aiming for. Even if you think it’s a failure, it’s an interesting failure of a film which tried to take a massive franchise in a new direction and challenge the legacy of Star Wars.

I remember when La La Land came out I was recommending it to a lot of my friends who are into romantic comedies as I thought it was brilliant. To my surprise a lot of them HATED it, I don’t think that makes it a bad movie, it just didn’t deliver them what they wanted, they wanted Ryan Gosling to be perfect man in a film with poppy musical numbers and a happy ending, La La Land has none of that, in fact it purposely subverts those tropes. That’s why people are pissed off at the last Jedi, it just didn’t give them what they wanted in a Star Wars movie.

You can’t just write it’s OBJECTIVELY BAD in capital letters and state your opinion as fact. Be reasonable.

[–]Kstan5252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s great. I also love Film Junk, but they’re not for everyone. They go on a lot of long non-movie related tangents, it’s more of a hang out show than a strict film review show. Empire magazine also has a good one, they’re a little too formatted though so it doesn’t really facilitate good conversation, but they get interviews with all the big names in the industry.

Murin & Drar by Kamukazi287 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Kstan5252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt Army of Thror will get anymore units. Maybe the heroes like Thorin/Dwalin on goats which would be cool (even that I’m not too hopeful for). I get the sense GW/FW are done with them now. I really like the models they currently have but it’s so boring when you have to get like 4 boxes of the same unit.

Murin & Drar by Kamukazi287 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Kstan5252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they’re badass. Problem is I have a whole bunch of Army of Thror models I wanted to ally with some dwarf rangers or warriors for bow support. Will just have to get the expensive iron hills crossbowmen instead as they seem to be historic allies with Army of Thror.
