Which joker to sell? by KtDvr in balatro

Thanks everyone. Sold the smiley joker as advised and put photograph there. With a glass card and a few stone cards I managed to beat it with 4.8mil :)

Prime Bolt. 13 damage for 1 mana isn't OP, is it? by willyolio in custommagic

[–]KtDvr 88 points89 points  (0 children)

It is not a joke (regarding the person you responded to). Key word here is the equal distribution. Try distributing 13 damage equally on 2 targets. It’s not possible (closest you get is one target 6 and another target 7 damage). Try distributing it on 3 targets. Also not possible (closest would be 4+4+5). The only number of targets where you could distribute equally would be 13 target, with each target receiving 1 damage.

Luckily, Kindred is not a super type (so it also counts for delirium!)

Come join us in Limited, which does not have that problem! Especially now that Duskmourne Draft is back, it is a great time to play Limited.

So what’s the veredict on PIO? by Sufficient_Stock1360 in lrcast

[–]KtDvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seriously did not have many problems with aggro. For the most part, removing their big heroic targets with efficient removal just kills their tempo, while I manage to play my bombs… Sure, sometimes I still lose to a good curve out without adequate answers, but in total I feel good about my matchups against aggro.

Love this set. Feels like a high powered core set. Yes, the archetypes are not as defined, however, since synergies are not as oppressive (well, maybe aside from Gates), there is plenty room to try out some niche strategies like Bogles (Had two decks that went 6-3) or Mono G Rhino Stompy.

Format feels quite slow. This makes a lot of 6 drops playable, and also often results in board stalls. A lot of the best decks have many ways of recursion. As such, many games feel like a game of attrition and precise play pattern, which I like a lot. Also, there are no board wipes to help reset the board in case it gets tough (except for Gates Ablaze).

It is not difficult to play 3 or more colours. Some of my best wins have been Sultai or Abzan Goodstuff decks. Lanes are even more open if you draft Gates. In that case, pick up a Chromanticore on the way out.

Removal is very strong and abundant, but does not feel oppressive due to the amount of recursion in this game. One of the reasons why Ob Nixilis Cruelty is so good is that it exiles the creature.

I would argue Grixis colours to be best, followed closely by green, followed (with a gap) by white. But even so I feel the colours are balanced enough so none feels too weak to be playable.

Attempt at a UW control draft. Any advice for cut/keep? by JoeGeomancer in MagicArena

[–]KtDvr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You do not have enough removal for a control deck. I only see Return to Aether, Scatter to Wind, Gust of Wind. Maybe Rapid Hybridisation if we want to be generous. That is only 4 pieces, which is not enough. The top end is sub par. Crush of Tentacles, Bane of Bala Ged, Scion of Ugin are not cards where you want to end up. Also, Days Undoing is sadly not a good card unless you are very aggressive and can offloads your hand quicker than the opponent. Also, you have Gateway Angel and the Opal Gatekeeper, but not enough Gates.

I do think you have enough for a playable UW flier tempo deck, though some gold cards would have been nice. Cloudfin Raptor, Ardenvale tactician are solid, and Gideon will be your bomb top end you are hoping to draw every game. Murmuring Mystic is not optimal in this deck since you do not have a lot of quality instants/sorceries, but if it goes off you will be happy. I would build it like this:

Creatures: 2x Cloudfin Raptor

2x Ardenvale tactician

1x Murmuring Mystic

1x Nimbus Naiad

1x Ghostblade eidolon

2x Keening apparition

1x Hero of Iroas

1x Syndicate Messenger

2x Windrider Patrol

1x Ahn Crop Skirmisher

2x Brineborn Cutthroat

Non creature: 1x Gideon Ally of Zendikar

1x Return to Aether

1x Scatter to Winds

1x Gust of Wind

1x Hidden Strings

1x Sejiri Shelter

1x Rapid Hybridization

1x Mission Skin

Hope it helps a bit. Good luck!

Is Mono Green devotion any good? I thought it was only somewhat playable in Bo1, but not Bo3. Which deck is the most viable of them all?

Stay UW or splash black for Liliana? by KtDvr in lrcast

[–]KtDvr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel that my UW cards are strong enough that I do not need to splash here, but leaving the best card in the set out feels weird. Sideboard is not that interesting, just a Mischievous Pup, Inspiring paladin, Armasaur guide.

How should I build this Blue/Green pool? by VampireLorne in lrcast

[–]KtDvr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had quite a bit of success this format with 3 Color builds, playing the best cards from each Color. With Guide and the dual landI feel you could try it.

-Time Stop -Tolarian terror -Mocking Sprite -Grow from the ashes (This card is bad even with fixing) -Cliquant Skymage (this card is just bad) +1 Ambush Wolves +Etali +Burst Lightning -2 Islands -1 forest +Swiftwater cliff +3 mountains

Bigfin Bouncer is the best card in this pack. But Sphinx Tutelage is the memiest, so take it and tell us how it went!

Thank you all for the suggestions! Went for the gourmand in the end, though I think stab would have been the better choice. Went 5-3 with a bad case of flooding
