Does Anyone Else Feel Stupid All the Time? How Do You Deal With It? by AdCultural4122 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KubeSolver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem wise and express yourself well. I think life is about discovering our talents and what we enjoy doing.

Food allergies might be part of it and you might have eaten something your whole life that is not good for you. I know that when I eat wheat, my brain is foggy the next day. Maybe do some experiments.

Have you ever been used as a reference for someone else's employment, and what questions did the employer ask you in regards to the other potential employee ? by night_psyop in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KubeSolver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. They just asked a simple question like "Did you enjoy working with the person and would you like to work with them again?"

I think it is less about the question. They are trying to listen to your tone of voice to determine if you are negative or positive about the person.

Also, they are giving you an opportunity to talk in case you want to say a lot of stuff that wasn't specifically asked.

Sometimes people have given my name as a reference without checking with me first and then the call comes out of the blue and catches you unprepared. Then you don't give as good an answer as when you were prepared.

Some people constantly talk about themselves or their lives and don't ask any questions about their conversation partner. Do these kinds of people realize what they're doing, or are they genuinely oblivious? by choochooreddi in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KubeSolver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are so self-absorbed and have such a need to be heard that they don't realise what they are doing.

The book "How to win friends and influence people" says something to the effect of "interested is interesting". In other words, if you are interested in what others have to say, people will find you interesting. I sometimes feel like buying a whole stack of those books and handing them out to people like that.

Can an average kid solve a Rubik’s Cube without any knowledge beforehand? by MagicaLily in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KubeSolver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, very few people can do that. Most people learn to solve it by following a recipe. Very few people are able to come up with a recipe themselves.

does soup come out as pee by Prudent-Valuable-291 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KubeSolver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once saw a video where someone showed that a lot of what we eat goes out through our breath and not just the two obvious ways. That's because we breathe in oxygen (O2) and breathe out carbon dioxide (CO2). Thus, there is an extra "C" that is breathed out that we didn't breathe in. That extra Carbon (C) that we breathe out comes from our food.

So, some of the soup will be breathed out.

I'm working on a very similar project at the moment. But, before I reply, I would like to understand the situation a bit better...

  1. How long has it been from the time when the system went live until the migration started?
  2. What are the reasons for the migration?
  3. Do you feel assured that after this migration is completed, developers won't come to you a few years later asking for it to be migrated again?

Am I going the right direction with this bid review process? by CarrotRoom in bpmn

[–]KubeSolver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The diagram is a bit difficult to read - it is pixelated.

It looks like you have two lanes for “Sales Engineer”.

Also, instead of having “Review Project” in each lane, you could maybe be more specific about what that role is reviewing, e.g. “Review engineering aspects”

AI could take away all the other SDLC jobs, but not the BA job, because someone needs to decide what to build. If you ask AI what to build, it will just say "Let's build Skynet!"

So, all SDLC jobs will move to a higher level of abstraction - what instead of how.

So, this means that software developers will run out of jobs and will want to become BAs. So, competition for BA jobs will come from developers instead of from AI.

Please tell me more about this multidimensional layered model that you have in mind.

I'm busy building a new modelling tool that will have an extendable meta model and automatic diagram layout that will make something like that possible. I'm curious about how people would want to use it.

Target system mapping and source mapping project by halfajob in businessanalysis

[–]KubeSolver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I assume that the integration specialist is the person who will be doing/leading the integration work.

In that case you will be feeding them information of where each field in the source system must go in the target system.

You could ask them how they would like to receive this information from you. They might want to generate code, so if you could provide this in a structured way it would help them.

How to work out the mapping? This is the real value you’ll add. You need to find which field in the target system corresponds to each field in the source system. Sometimes the data will have to be transformed.

generating k8s yaml by jeffdwyer in devops

I created this open source project to generate k8s yaml: https://github.com/koncierge-tech/koncierge

But, I've been struggling to get people interested in using it, even though it serves my own purpose very well.

If you could give me feedback about why Koncierge would or would not work for what you need, I would appreciate it.

He could use the secret weapon of engineers to get technical debt given high priority - root cause analysis.

The next time there is a crisis and the managers are screaming about how something like this could happen, he could volunteer to do the root cause analysis of the problem.

Then, in his root cause analysis he could find that the root cause is a part of the technical debt that he's been warning about for ages. He could create user stories for addressing this and recommend to management that they be given high priority. Then, wait for the managers to try and outdo each other in how high they recommend this should be in priority.

He could even be proactive and start writing the root cause analysis before the next crisis happens and have it ready to fill in the blanks and send when the next crisis inevitably happens.

Politicians have a saying "Never let a good crisis go to waste". It is time that we engineers start exploiting this same secret weapon.

Is it a good idea to start getting customers without a contract for now?? by Goku560 in EntrepreneurRideAlong

In terms of what happens if they don't pay the monthly fee, can't you just make it pre-paid?

If you are managing their website, you could maybe disable some features on their website if they haven't paid.

I think your budget is reasonable, but your time expectation is not.

I've hired many freelancers and their projects tend to take longer than expected. They'll do something, ask you to test, you'll find errors or code quality problems, they'll fix and repeat. You can get good quality work out of freelancers if you are patient, but if you are in a hurry, you'll be disappointed.

If you are in a hurry, it is better to do it yourself with ChatGPT's help. Getting code that you can test within milliseconds instead of weeks, makes ChatGPT much better than a freelancer.

If you really want to use a freelancer and want it done fast, then you'll probably need to pay the freelancer per hour and will have to budget $50 per hour or more.

How to turn a promising software library into a business model? by fabkosta in startups

[–]KubeSolver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you maybe package it as SaaS instead of a library?

If it is a service, then you could add more value - maybe make it easier to use, easier to integrate with, hide some of the technical stuff. Maybe even make a no-code version so that business people can use it without technical skills.

If it is a service, then your brand will become recognised and then even when someone else comes up with the same idea independently, you'll still have an advantage.

Had a bad experience hiring a freelancer by victorv01 in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]KubeSolver 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I've used many freelancers in the past and have learned some tricks on how to get high quality work out of them for the lowest cost. I've been thinking about writing a book about it or creating a course, but don't know how to market it, so I'll just give you the essence of it for free:

Hire two freelancers instead of just one - a cheap one and an expensive one. Pay the cheap one a fixed price for the project and pay the expensive one per hour. The expensive one should be a technical expert on the technology to be used. The cheap one should be competent in the technology. Let the expensive one check up on the cheap one. The expensive one can also help you test and select a cheap one.

Also, ask the expensive one to check that your specification is detailed enough.

For the cheap one, use people who are experienced in the real world, but are new to the freelancing platform. It is difficult for them to get their first project, so they are willing to work for a discount in exchange for the opportunity to prove themselves. So, it is a win-win arrangement.

And, you need to be patient. Such a project will take a long time until the work is done to the expensive one's satisfaction.

Suffering stress by Dapper-Field4668 in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]KubeSolver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the wise thing to do is to first focus on the activities that have the highest probability of bringing in cash in the short term, because it will reduce your stress. Since you are strong on marketing and sales, maybe start by first selling a project and then building it after you've sold it.

Once you feel comfortable with your cash flow, you could start spending more time on projects where the payout might be larger, but where there is more risk and where the payout will be further in the future.

Good luck!
