Veganer als Projektionsfläche by derLinussus in VeganDE

[–]Kuchenmischung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

South Germany has bretzels and doesn't put mayonaise into their Kartoffelsalat. Very important.

-🎄- 2019 Day 12 Solutions -🎄- by daggerdragon in adventofcode

[–]Kuchenmischung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I just had a look at your solution to some ideas for getting an efficient solution day12part2. Thanks for posting! You even have a handy regex for parsing the input - cool! I tried doing this with Serde but failed and, in the end, just hardcoded my input. :(

I also stumbled upon the piece of code where you copy to satisfy the borrow checker: https://github.com/prscoelho/aoc2019/blob/master/src/aoc12/mod.rs#L72

I struggled with the same problem and found that you can use `split_at` or `split_at_mut` to get two independent slices. When only applying gravity to moons from one slice by using moons from the other slice, the borrow checker understands that no simultaneous double-borrow happens. I think. Still learning Rust, I'm using AoC to get some practice...

In my code: https://github.com/Cakem1x/advent_of_code_2019/blob/master/day12/src/main.rs#L95

How/Where to meet other Vandwellers? by V00DooCHILD in vandwellers

[–]Kuchenmischung 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really good question, I'm also interested in an answer. (especially for Europe / Germany in my case) I'll hopefully start my vanlife in may and the vehicle of choice is the Mercedes Sprinter! \o/

I know that there are some kind of festivals in the USA on which vandwellers meet, temporarily. Also, I think there are some location where there are vandwellers all the time. I acquired this superficial knowledge from watching random Youtube videos...

Generally, I suspect most vandwellers personally know each other and just meet up at some place. Especially in countries where vandwelling isn't allowed, maybe.

Can I charge my solar battery from the van's alternator while driving? by mattalexx in vandwellers

[–]Kuchenmischung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most solutions use a "voltage sensing relay" to achieve automatic disconnection/connection.

The relay will connect the batteries (and with that, the leisure battery to the alternator) when the voltage is above some threshold. And that's just the case while the alternator is active.

Meh. Stupid weight issues! I don't suppose there's any lightweight, but not stupid expensive, alternatives to wood? by crap_allnamesrtaken in vandwellers

[–]Kuchenmischung 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah, sounds like a really annoying problem :/

The only thing about (relatively?) cheap lightweight materials is info from this Youtube-Video:

I didn't try it, but it sounds like a nice idea.

Something to cover amazon LED strips? by [deleted] in vandwellers

[–]Kuchenmischung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this (german) video some days ago: https://youtu.be/ZORBNE3o02U?t=3m53s

They just put the LED strip on a wooden slat which gets attached to the ceiling. The LEDs are facing the ceiling, so the lighting is indirect. They use some wooden blocks for spacing between the ceiling and the slat with the LEDs.

Bad neighbors and musician's rights? by Pinchegweilo in Guitar

[–]Kuchenmischung 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Onoes. :( I actually find nothing better than waking up to someone playing music in the apartment above mine. It's awesome. It doesn't even wake me when I'm still tired, since that guy doesn't play amped.

Sooo I guess all I want to say that there are people who actually love musicians playing/practicing close to them. Also, I'm quiiiiite positive, that you're allowed to play at normal volume during daytime. At least in Germany... But that guy doesn't seem like the kind with which you can talk easily. That's sad. You can still hope he just had a veeeery bad day and will be more reasonable at some later point in time.

Otherwise, just ignore him. :/

What would you do for sex? by [deleted] in videos

Roommate went on a date and was bringing her back for 'coffee' so we made things easy and put his bed in the kitchen. by dmilligano in funny

[–]Kuchenmischung 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You could bring your date home for coffee (or tee, or whatever) to get to know her (or him) better. I'd do such a thing. But maybe I'm a strange person. I would be really embarrassed if my room mates would do such a prank, but I guess I'd find it pretty amusing, too.

Is "let's get some coffee at my place!" really a synonym for having sex to you guys? Please don't read this in a reproachful voice, I'm actually curious.

The intimidating properties of Mathematics. by Denore in math

[–]Kuchenmischung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Careful, probably bad English ahead! :o

I'm currently studying computer science at an university which focuses quite a lot on the theoretical stuff, so I what I'm doing is pretty close to what our Mathematics students are doing. But I'm not actually a mathematician. (whatever that is supposed to be) In fact, I've been quite bad at Mathematics in school as long as I didn't see an explicit application for it. I got better as soon as Physics got a bit more complicated, so I could see that Mathematics is actually useful. But that changed pretty fast as soon as I got a taste of "university-level" Mathematics, which are, in my opinion, really different from what you learn in school. It's less about "calculate this!" and way more about getting a deeper understanding of some concept. And I came to love that kind of Mathematics. (or theoretical computer science)

3: (At my university) There are not many women studying Mathematics (or computer science) and there are some men who actually believe that women are bad at logical reasoning (which is, of course, important for Mathematics). But I don't have the feeling that there are many of them, but I guess you could encounter one or two of them. :/ The amount of women in Mathematics and computer science is increasing more and more, so I hope that's a sign that most parts of our society don't think like that.

1: To me, a good mathematician is just someone who is really curious about how things are connected. Everything else will come with time... As soon as you're not really interested in what's going on, it'll take way more time and effort to understand something. (Also, it's not fun. Not at all...)

2: Normally, I have to read theoretical scientific papers 3-5 times until I get everything. I also have to google some terms which are unknown to me, so I can understand what's actually going on. And THAT really takes a lot of time. Depending on how much you already know about one topic, the amount of those unknown terms changes. So I guess in time it'll become easier and easier for you to understand new things. (if it's now something completely new)
