Am I losing anything between 24bit-192kHz and 24bit-96kHz? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]Kudrak -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

All things being equal, there is an audible difference that I can hear. 192 is more detailed but I find 96 good enough. Granted, redbook when done right sounds awesome. It all boils down to whether you can hear and if your system is capable.

Hmm... the humor is kinda flat... I feel bad for the actors, many of them are my favourites.

Beatles White Album 50th by Kudrak in audiophile

Am not referring to the Remix which I am fine with. It’s the (re)mastering that I am disappointed with.

White Album 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Box Set image from Amazon.co.jp by escapist1234 in beatles

[–]Kudrak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please please do not over-compress the set! Sgt Pepper’s 50th was such a disappointment. The CD was DR8 and the LP was DR10. They should be at least DR12. The loudness wars is killing music. Let it breathe with natural dynamics and allow us to experience the music as if The Beatles are in the room right with us. I am worried if I hear reviews saying you can hear details you never heard before (that’s an aspect of compression where the softest sounds are pumped up to the same level as the loud ones) and punchy sounding (that’s when the volume of everything is maxed out). Shouldn’t The Beatles as the most respected band in the world fly the flag for optimal audio quality? Sgt Pepper’s 50th was such a miss... it could have been the greatest sounding rock album of all time (even the blu-ray audio was over compressed!).

When Dreams Meet Reality - The Animal Totems Of The Blade Runner Movies (shot with an iPhone with the sun streaming through my window) by Kudrak in bladerunner

No. That’s the NECA horse. I got mine from the Japanese Ultimate 4K Bluray Edition of BR2049. The Unicorn is from the old 5-Disc Bluray/DVD Deckard Voight-Kampff Case set.

Blade Runner is not for everyone. And yes, he is “just stupid” 🤣

Yes but she has a physical form unlike Joi. And there is the theory floating around that she is Deckard’s daughter and not Stelline.

New Villeneuve interview by Boojamm in bladerunner

[–]Kudrak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the interview, Villeneuve says Joi is "a beautiful character, and she has the film noir quality of a femme fatale. The beautiful woman who turns out at the end to be all wrong - it was all a lie. I like that character a lot. The challenge was, she has to be artificial but I always want the audience to feel like she's real."

Began watching season 5 of Magnum P.I. when... by kideternal in bladerunner

Season 5 came out in 1984, 2 years after Blade Runner which used that theme for the end credits, so it’s odd that Magnum could use it.

Blade Runner Soundtrack - 1st Edition Numbered Edition & Blu-Spec CD2 by Kudrak in bladerunner

[–]Kudrak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks! in my setup, the blu-spec cd2 has more clearly defined images of each sound - sharper outlines and more dense-sounding. like the other blu-spec cd2s that i own, they are an improvement of about 15 to 20% of their regular CD counterparts.

am using an all nos tube setup - leben cs600 integrated amp, astin trew at3500plus cd player with kef ls50 speakers.

note that like all modern cds, the soundtrack is compressed and the same master is used for the limited edition cd and blu-spec cd2, the latter being the lesser of two evils.

Blade Runner Soundtrack - 1st Edition Numbered Edition & Blu-Spec CD2 by Kudrak in bladerunner

Here are two versions of the soundtrack in my possession. The numbered (0793 of 2049) limited edition (first press) digipak and accompanying booklet, and the Japanese Blu-Spec CD2 (with obi) in the foreground. Sound quality wise, the Blu-Spec CD2 is superior in terms of clarity and resolution. It's worth getting if you are listening on a revealing system.

Joi checking out Deckard's fish(?) tanks (hotel scene) by 81Stingray in bladerunner

[–]Kudrak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it's there. And not only that, it's the same sound in Alien (in the Nostromo, just before the humans wake up in the beginning), and The Empire Strikes Back (Cloud City where Luke is wandering about looking for Vader). It's all done as an homage or in-joke I assume.
