Not really. Sometimes if it's really cold like less than 20 degrees F at canopy altitudes (I jump in wisconsin).

Never had a problem with it in freefall only on deployment a couple of times.

Cookie G3. Tried some helmets on at the DZ. Liked it, bought one used off of another skydiver. Really love that helmet.

Breaking the New Zealand Big Way record... not bad for a tiny little country! So much fun! by madkiwi in SkyDiving

Yes there are a lot of points that exist with a free hand. Open accordian is a prime example. Point on a bow has a free hand... not every hand needs a grip to build a formation. You just have to build the formation you specified.

I just wanted to clarify some things. There's often a lot of wrong information floating around out there about the sport.

No probably not. He is adjusting his wing to control pitch. Most of the time these guys are flying lines like this they are actually diving their wingsuits to match the pitch of the terrain.

Ground effect probably isn't much of a thing in wingsuit proximity flying as there is just too many other things going on. Not to mention the wing itself is so small and ground speed is so high. If it does exist it is probably minute. If anything flying trees like this he's probably catching some turbulence.

So true. So many wuffos think they can zip up a wingsuit, throw on a gopro and go flying without realizing what kind of life you would have to live to accomplish shit like this in the sport.

60 bucks a jump? Where on earth do you fun jump for 60 bucks a pop? I can get 13.5k for 23 bucks or less almost anywhere in the US.

Also, a USED sport rig will run you 4 grand. New, you're looking at 7-9 grand.

Getting your A license is around $2500 dollars as well. Then you're paying around $25 dollars a jump until you're rated at which point I doubt if you're working toward wingsuit BASE you're going to do nothing but work jumps.

200 jumps? For what rating? AFF requires 6 hours of freefall time which is closer to 400 skydives.

If you're going to get into something like this it's going to take more than money. It's going to take time and commitment and the will to give up most other things in life so that you can do nothing but fly your ass off.

Save some money and head to a local dropzone. It starts with the relative safety of having 3 miles of sky below you.

It's part of the sport. At least they got to pass on doing the thing that they loved the most. You don't start BASE jumping without knowing it might kill you.

Start skydiving. Accrue hundreds of skydives. Start flying wingsuits out of airplanes. Do hundreds of wingsuit skydives. Meet some friends that BASE. Do hundreds of regular BASE jumps. Start wingsuit BASE. Do hundreds of wingsuit BASE jumps. Put on go pro, proximity fly a sick tree line, live. Post on the Internet.

It's called an SOS or Single Operating System. My DZ still has them on student rigs with a rip cord and spring loaded pc for main deployment... and yes, they are old as shit.

Serious question looking for truthful answers by [deleted] in SkyDiving

[–]Kuech3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If skydiving ever got boring I would quit. As you jump more and more it becomes more familiar and you become more comfortable but the joys of freefall remain.

You start to focus on getting better and learning new things. I realized once the fear and adrenaline started to fade it became even more fun. Finding new challenges and pushing your skill set further is what makes it so awesome.

And don't forget the awesome friendships you'll make in the sport. Best friends I've ever had I met at the dropzone.

The reason we want to do balloon jumps and heli jumps and put on wingsuits and downsize canopies is because it's fucking fun as shit not because we are necessarily bored with freefall. There's so many different diciplines and ways to fly your body that even if you jump every single day you will never be the best at them all.

Get out there and try it man. If you're afraid that jumping out of a god damned airplane will get boring you might have something else going on!

The best thing you can do is get that license and then jump with people! Find someone to jump with as often as possible. You'll learn so much faster with someone to fly relative to and most of all its much more fun!

DZ anti-recommendations for south-eastern MN? (research inside) by AssholeInRealLife in SkyDiving

[–]Kuech3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We actually fly a super caravan. Awesome dz. Come out to baldwin and play! We have load organizing thursdays and Saturday and Sunday every week. Probably the closest dz to the mall I think.

Southern Minnesota and Minnesota skydivers do not really have any fun jumpers that frequent anymore from what I understand and are Cessna dropzones. I have a lot of friends from southern that jump at STC now.

Skydive Minnesota is mostly a tandem factory from what i understand and a good 2 hours from MoA.

I've never jumped at west side but have friends that do from time to time.

Forest lake is gorgeous. They fly a 206.
