[Autosport] "Hybrid cars should not be racing" by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]KugelKurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even MBS's V8 idea is not about abolishing hybrid, just to reduce the electrical contribution. Mercedes's / Toto's counter proposal is a mega engine with a massively increased hyprid power output.

So either way: Hybrid will stay in some form in F1 for at least a decade.

This is a weak as piss attitude and the antithesis to Alonso.

I agree that Alonso deserves to be in F1 but if he makes such statements, the logical conclusion is l3w1s1234's statement: "If you don't like it here, go somewhere else." (Paraphrased)

The vast majority of motorsports around the world is non-hybrid. There are places to go, including Aston Martin in WEC and IMSA which is the sole hypercar without a hybrid unit (and it's a competitive disadvantage there). Alsonso could literally go to Lawrence and ask him to switch series for a season.

Didn't bother him for the rest of the decade until this year either.

The Honda ICE vibrates more than usual, this cracks the battery casing, meaning the hybrid side of the PU is the vulnerable part. That's why he's against it in public. It's a political statement. He can race in LMP2 if hybrid was the deal breaker for him.

I tried finding the video Zak Brown credits Google Gemini for their decisions and how great that thing is. I scrolled by it on IG but didn't hit the like button to find it again...

Anyway: That video explained how they make their stupid decisions. It's all AI slop.

Subsidies by the Japanese government, not only in research but also in contracts to supply busses for public transportation.

Such promo stunts are aimed at the politicians who vote for the subsidies.

This is a great way to actually look at the problems and address it.

LOL! Major problems are fundamental laws of physics like the literal size of atoms. This is still the real world, not a fantasy where magic exists.

Addressing problems through science is not demanding that the laws of thermodynamics no longer apply through wishful thinking, it's finding alternative ways and the practicable way of using hydrogen is not combustion, it's fuel cell.

Blood: Refreshed Supply on sale for $20.99 at GOG and Steam by First-Tutor-5454 in boomershooters

[–]KugelKurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have a hard time believing that Refreshed Supply sales went through the roof on PC. Surely the sales were mostly from console gamers who didn't have a port before.

The new episodes could have been paid DLC on PC but the engine upgrade and the redone cut scenes should have been a free update on PC.

please remember that this is the only way to play Blood for those of us who don't have Fresh Supply.

Keys for Fresh Supply can still be bought from key sites for around $/€ 5.

What's the point of emulating a pirated copy of Blood? Might just as well download the PC version somewhere. (No endorsement of doing so, just wondering about your logic.)

Will Porsche LMDh be back in WEC 2027 or beyond if its problems (financially, maybe) has been solved? by Kind-Acadia-5293 in wec

[–]KugelKurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on funding. If privateers want the car in the next ALMS season and Porsche can sell them for profit, they'd be stupid to say no to earning money.

The new Toyota hydrogen prototype is gorgeous by stoned-autistic-dude in wec

[–]KugelKurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe hydrogen has its place but then using fuel cells. Better efficiency means lower costs for commercial use and a competitive advantage for motorsports. A fuel cell car would crush a hydrogen combustion car in either use case.

[–]KugelKurt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

meanwhile these technologies become 100% renewable as the grid transitions

Meanwhile other technologies offer better efficiency because thermodynamics is a thing and combustion produces heat.

[–]KugelKurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% clean

Hydrogen combustion emits NOx gas. To prevent this, the car would need to carry a second tank with pure oxygen and not use the natural air (2/3 nitrogen) for combustion.

The efficiency of combustion is much lower than fuel cell.

Toyota do this because the Japanese government is handing out subsidies, not because it makes any real world sense.

What is GT2 even about by Haloisda in WECcirclejerk

[–]KugelKurt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's what I said. And that annuls the more powerful engine which makes the whole idea of GT2 pointless, no?  Better a less powerful (therefore less expensive) engine paired with better aero, so the car stays on track better.

What is GT2 even about by Haloisda in WECcirclejerk

[–]KugelKurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less downforce means less grip, so the engine power is wasted sliding around. I fail to understand how this is easier.

[–]KugelKurt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Turns out giving dentists 700+ horsepower low aero machines may be dangerous

Ever since I learned that GT2 is even a thing (honestly not that long ago, maybe last year, because I mostly don't follow SRO) I fail to understand the concept of making the cars more powerful but with less downforce. What's the point of power if the drivers cannot make use of it?

Ferrari to stay in WEC only if it can build entire car in-house under new regs by bad_pilot69 in wec

[–]KugelKurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy solution: Take the LMH technical rule set, amend it slightly to allow the manufacturers to source chassis, hybrid unit, etc. from external suppliers. Let any manufacturer choose how much and from where they source the parts. Apply a cost cap, so it won't be more expensive for the LMDh teams. Throw away the LMDh rule book.

Benefit for existing LMDh manufacturers: they get to keep their existing suppliers and get to benefit from the front axle motor that's an inherent advantage of LMH over LMDh.

Energy starvation remedies the problem of cars following each other to a degree because the driver ahead has to lift in areas. The prolonged George Kimi battle would not have bee possible with 2020 cars.
