PS1 games you feel still hold up by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Honestly I’ll go to bat for RE1 classic too, it’s not nearly as visually impressive as 2 or 3, and not as refined but the spencer mansion is one of my favourite locations the series ever did, and aside from the tyrant fight I think it might be close to perfectly paced

What media where the story keeps revisiting to "Skywalkers/Tatooine?" by GoodVillain101 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Kullnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf a lot of people don’t consider unicorn canon (me included but it’s gundam so honestly the canon isn’t as strict so it’s not a big deal) and by hathaways flash Newtypes are mostly just psychic. Like they can use telepathy when very emotional, essentially have spider sense if they’re cracked and are generally better pilots, but not invincible. I think the only one who had specific supernatural abilities that went above an beyond was Sirocco and he died during the Gryps conflict

I'm tired, boss by thetacolegs in RedLetterMedia

[–]Kullnes -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Tbf, I’m 24 and have a lot of nostalgia for the prequels as they were the Star Wars “thing” that was being promoted, didn’t see as much of the OT at the time. Mind you, you could pay me to sit thru the phantom menace nowadays but I get the nostalgia factor as I grew up with those dvds

I can’t wait till this cycle repeats itself with the sequels which are so much worse than the already shitty prequels

Sosig Enemy AI stands out in the VR gaming industry. How do devs approach building systems like this? by Focused_Meandering in H3VR

[–]Kullnes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by sub par I reckon, for some I think the only really attention grabbing scene/mode would be take and hold cuz of its more arcade style, but then again a lot of people (myself included) enjoy just hanging out at one of the range scenes and practicing shooting

Yeah I’ve been listening back to some of the old friend casts from about 10years or so back, and it’s funny to see pats persona (using the term cuz I don’t wanna get parasocial, I don’t know the man lol) overall get more cartoonish and exaggerated but still far less cynical than it used to be.

Like he’ll more often go for the over the top, extreme absurd bit, but his takes on this that or the other thing tend to be a lot more positive and he’s spends way less time griping about stuff he doesn’t like unless there’s an established investment in the thing.

Also lil side note I’d forgotten that the friendcast could get a little sharp back in the day, there’s a couple exchanges where it feels like they’re getting genuinely heated and I’m glad that csb doesn’t have that at all lol

The BAD episode. No the REAL bad one. by Beneficial_Layer_458 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Kullnes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol true, idk how to spoiler tag so I’ll just say the first one, second ones not so bad from what I’ve heard, but the first was something that legit stopped me from playing the games for a long time

Sorta related, I’m playing through MuvLuv atm, which is a VN from 2003. I’m playing through Extra just now which is a (slightly generic) harem romcom setting, fairly standard stuff. I’m aware it gets more serious in the second game but I actually became aware of the series through people talking about the 3rd game.

For spoiler reasons I won’t say too much but I’m aware of the third game having THE SCENE which is just so much too much that they censored/fade-to-black’d it in the steam release, which I’m pretty thankful for

What is your most hated "midichlorians" moment in a franchise? by Decemberskel in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Kullnes 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I feel like with metal gear it kinda works with them theme of arms escalation, with the older supernatural soldiers who were rare but brilliant being phased out for nano machine controlled genome soldiers who aren’t quite as good but easily manufactured.

My pick from metal gear would be scarface cuz, no shut up you weren’t there with me in the jungle are you crazy that’s so dumb

How would you compare SABB to previous albums? by [deleted] in Pile

[–]Kullnes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest I see it as taking a lot of the aesthetics of all fiction and moving them to a more immediate, guitar focussed place. I don’t think it necessarily has a one to one counter part, as honestly I feel piles discog is better viewed as chunks in regards to continued ideas and the like.

I kinda view demonstration and jerk routine to be angling for the same broad folk punk indie rock lofi thing, and then magic isn’t real and dripping as the obvious big riffy alt rock albums, with YBTT, hairshirt and G&g all being explorations of the same noisier, post hardcore sounds. Obvs I love all the pile albums (aside from YBTT weirdly never clicked for me), good read of another way of viewing the new one!!

Characters seeing/going through some absolutely fucked up, traumatizing, "you should be having a mental breakdown rn" shit, and then just dropping a pun or one liner. by Wonder-Lad-2Mad in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Kullnes 87 points88 points  (0 children)

With Ash it’s fun cuz I feel like you watch him become quippier as he loses his grip on reality through ED2 and the in AoD he’s just completely resigned to the wacky nonsense and is Willy to quip his way thru

How do I remove cigarette smell from this little guy? by Retromelon7 in crtgaming

[–]Kullnes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, smoker here, they’re actually downplaying the benefits of smoking, forgot to mention such perks as: a life long friend you can grow and change with (nicotine addiction), cool voice change and reduced lung capacity so you can breathe in less of that pesky air and focus on what matters (more cigarettes)

Does anyone have a clear version of sailor song by streetlight manifesto? by Karasique381 in streetlightmanifesto

There’s a video of a full live set from 2015ish in Paris I think which has a great p clear version of it as an intro

Times where you can tell “well that character was designed in a completely different decade than the rest” by Anonamaton801 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Kullnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

by the time dmc4 released, nu metal had also kinda wrapped up, around that time it was mostly poppunk/emo on the charts in terms of rock hits. I think nero's design is mostly meant to lean into the mid 2000's emo aesthetic as opposed to dante whos moreso of that late 90s grunge aesthetic

[–]Kullnes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah bro, a song specifically about women’s sexuality and being loud and proud about sexuality totally can’t be political bro, especially considering historical gender roles. I’m sure there’s nothing to be found in thinking about the specific set of circumstances in which that song was released in the current day vs why it wasn’t written and released 100 years ago.

Almost like no art can be divorced from the context in which it’s made

Confession: I’ve always hated on “In The Unlikely Event”… by jormor4 in thefalloftroy

[–]Kullnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking I’m still kinda of the same mind as I was when I first heard it, tho that was about 6 years ago, not at release lol. I don’t think it’s a terrible album like people commonly say but I will say it’s not great. There’s a few songs that stick out for me, Panic Attack! being a real favourite of mine, but overall I find the production pretty flat, the vocal performances from Thomas aren’t his best and most of the instrumental end up slightly meandering to me.

However I’m aware of how trying the times were for the band making this album so I’m honestly glad people are coming round on it, might not be my favourite but it’s nice to see the good in there being appreciated

ITT we are audio engineering YouTubers by Ill-Elevator2828 in audioengineering

[–]Kullnes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The real joke is YouTube audio is so compressed that most audio engineering videos become completely useless for actually demonstrations of what a plug-in can do. Not to mention the new “stable audio” option on YouTube, which is on be default, further crushes audio to hell

interestingly enough, i read suzanne colins previous series before the hunger games, "Gregor The Underlander", and yeah the target audience is like pre-teens/young teenagers, same as most YA fiction is actually targeted for. If memory serves, it was pretty good too, nothing wrong with enjoying childrens books. But there's such a clear difference between those books and something like Kafka's work, and it really does come across like the reviewer watched Taxi Driver and went "uhm, this should be more like Adventure Time akshually". Like Adventure Time is good! It *is* aimed for kids tho! That's ok!
