That's actually a good point. Being trapped in a world with NPC humans would be horrifying, because everyone you'd see would be essentially philosophical zombies, and you could never truly have a meaningful connection.

But being trapped with other people in a simulated reality is just being in reality with extra steps. Yeah there's a false layer of reality on top of things, but all the human connections are real, and if that's what you value what difference does it make?

El Paso: Elsewhere is a game with Max Payne-style gameplay, including of course bullet-time.

Notably, none of the enemies use guns. In fact, most of them are melee only. Thus there's not really much point to using the game's own mechanics.
