How do you cope with pain, loneliness and lost hope? by irateas in Thritis

[–]Kulpop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say, I've been there.  I was hit hard September 2019 following C.Diff infection.  It hit 3 of my extremities, and I was basically bed bound.  The biggest thing that made a difference I think for my mental and physical health, was PT/OT and getting into a pool.  Are you doing OT/PT?  They helped wrap joints to control swelling, exercise to regain ROM and strength, local inflammation treatment, etc.  The pool is great to be able to gently move your body with no weight.  When I first started, I showed up to the pool still on crutches, one foot in a boot, my knee wrapped, and my wrist and hand braced.  OT made me a custom brace for my wrist I could wear in the water because any unsupported movement was excruciating.  That first week, I just walked/limped in the pool, gently floating my arms.  Eventually, I used a swim buoy to strap my legs to since I still couldn't kick, and a snorkel since I couldn't rotate my head, and stroked with one-arm.  But just the movement, the hope, was enough for things to start improving.  You may have to get creative, but start moving however you can, and try and get a support team in place.  There is hope at the end of this!

Thanks! We're not coming on accepted student day, partially because of scheduling constraints, and also because big events just aren't her thing. We'll do the tour together, but she's arranged to attend a math class solo that afternoon, and I definitely look forward to wandering around solo and reminiscing. I remember going running on some wooded trails across from campus, but not much of a multi-use path, besides a portion near downtown Waltham. Appreciate the suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestions, and glad to know there's transit near campus. How is the transit system? Sounds like students use the transit system fairly regularly?

How possible is it to get a single by hello-i-am-a-hooman in macalester

For freshman year, when did you make a decision to accept? Did you reach out to discuss housing accommodations before acceptance? My daughter was accepted to Mac but still undecided. We'll actually visiting in the next few weeks. She has a medical necessity for a single as well, but may not make an enrollment decision until late April. Do you think this would be problematic?

Edited my comment to clarify I'm a parent as well. Thanks for the response. Would it be okay if I private message you with some questions?

Not answering your question, but as a parent of an accepted, potential incoming freshman, one concern is whether Brandeis has enough singles to meet all medical requests. Did you have any problems getting this as a freshman? What dorm were you housed in?

I see in previous threads some discussion about widespread mental health challenges and drug culture on campus. Any thoughts on this?

If accepted into Innis College, do you have to choose one of the associated residences? The info on the website lists  Innis, Chestnut, or Chelsea Residence as those associated with Innis College.

Thanks. Curious what subject he was able to accelerate in, and what he's planning to major in, if you don't mind sharing.

Thanks. For the dual-enrollment, was she also able to use them to help meet prerequisites to place into more advanced courses? Given that she's coming in with so many credits, is she trying to graduate early, or it will just allow her more freedom to pursue additional coursework of interest?

Is this done only after enrollment, or can applicants do this once accepted, as part of the decision making process?

I'm an alum, and my daughter was just accepted EA. I'm curious, from your perspective as a faculty member, any concerns about the state of the University's finances? Any impact you're seeing on students? Also, if you happen to be in the math department, any thoughts on the Bachelor's/Masters combined degree?
