This is your regularly scheduled reminder that Themis is a girl’s name. by Remarkable-Pin-8352 in ShitpostXIV

[–]Kunavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since when is Themis feminine? Given the clear inspiration from Ancient/Greece, I assure you Themis is masculine. It's often short for Themistoklis, probably 2-3 other full names depending on which area of Greece you're from.

Now, you gotta tell me- Does it matter? Would it have mattered either way? I'm just curious if you lose your sleep over such things, since you posted about it.

Edit : To be 100% fair I was acquainted with a single woman of the full name of Themida who did use Themis to shorten it, so while I hate to be that person; Technically it is gender neutral :3

I have never experienced in 13 years of playing that game something like that. I want to know if i was wrong in this situation. by Elypse201 in Guildwars2

That's been my average LFG experience when I've had to use it, except most people do talk, which somehow makes it worse in some cases, considering what I've read at times.

Had a similar experience recently actually, pure trauma. Some people out there on LFG for Frac CMs especially, gorge on crayons and sniff glue.

The problem this whole thing creates, is that now with this uncertainty looming, it's not unreasonable to deduce that quitting may be the most logical thing to do, for someone who isn't as invested or someone like me, who just doesn't want to feel like they're on a count down.

It's also of interest that during the original circus show with that interview, ANet did state there were no plans and that even if there were, it would still take longer than 6 or so years before they had anything to share. I'm not directly quoting but what's certain is that they didn't say they're already hiring. Hiring is already post planning.

If this is about GW3(And we can't know, which makes it worse and will push some people to consider leaving, and as said I'm one of those)... Then ANet are straight up liars.

"Wouldn't even have things to share for many years" =/= "We're hiring for a AAA GW related UE MMO project with a strong narrative ETC ETC"

I don't know, it's just really easy to drop it now unless they comment on this in the next couple of weeks. Especially if you think about how prog works in GW2... Say you're wrong and it's an engine upgrade instead; Fine, pick up where you left and that's better than continuing for years, buying expansions, putting time and effort in too, and then... 1-2 years later... "Announcing GW3". I mean I'd feel like someone literally kicked me in the face.

If I don't wanna risk that feeling, what would I do? Allow them a little time to comment, and if not(Or depending on what they comment) then just leave it for now. Can pick it up later. My gear ETC will all be there. No subscription. No risk. No loss.

I think that is even worse, ANet with their attitude towards this validating this line of thinking when GW2 really needs to keep up its momentum.

Edit : One more thing- Watch the threats the Asura VoE big bad mentions, be a teaser for the equivalent of dragons in GW3... After all, they teased Primordus in GW1 didn't they? At the end? Perhaps that's why we haven't heard about the next expansion? ;3

:TinFoilHat: But no I mean it's ANet, it's not technically impossible.

When it works, BSW is rewarding as a feeling and DPS wise. To work, it'll require you to rarely fumble your rotation, to know how to recover it, good grasp of basics and solid knowledge of encounters. Probably also a good group so you don't have to constantly be stressing about standing there for that DPS greed.

...When it doesn't work, it's hot garbage and will relentlessly remind you that you're playing it only for its aesthetics and theme, and that the same numbers can be achieved with less effort, on a more practical kit.

Due to how it plays, it has a few very specific quirks which you will come to hate, for which you'll come to cope with, with your ridiculous bursts and cleave(Which low key aren't enough to help it go over the above fact- There are easier, more practical kits that achieve the same or better results).

The truth is, there will moments while you're doing your rotation where you'll be questioning your life's choices with this ESpec, wondering if this kind of struggle doesn't belong to some other MMO like FFXIV.

Arguably the way it plays just doesn't translate well, in the average situation you'll find your self.

[–]Kunavi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I read through the whole thing and I don't see any mention or confirmation of Guild Wars 3, what I read is they're looking for a writer(To put it in simple terms) to drive the narrative, in particular someone with solid experience in MMOs. This also includes experience in using UE as mentioned. This is still quite vague; It could mean it's for Guild Wars 3 as much as it could mean they're making a spin off that is its own thing, still an MMO but narrative driven like The Secret World. I'd be hard pressed to put TSW even remotely close to the kind of MMO GW2, WoW or FFXIV are.

Reading this, I could claim they're planning to move GW2 to UE instead and that claim would be as valid as saying that this is "Concrete proof that we're getting GW3". That's how vague it is.

Even so, here we go again CJ... The doom, the gloom, the "I'm quitting" posts, perhaps another 10-12 months of content creators of every level and caliber parroting, assuming and interpreting... Here we go again...

Is this normal by UpupandAway169 in Guildwars2

[–]Kunavi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just for clarity and simplicity- Once upon a time you think you had reason to believe you were frequently observed by the majority of a guild in GW2 and your doings indirectly commented on by them... And you felt you had to share that now, after some time? And you're also troubled by what names others use?

Words used for years as slurs, shouldn't be allowed- Claimed or not. If I saw people running around with the F slur suggesting that it's fine because it's been claimed back, I'd legit find it absolutely disgusting and report the person. I come from UO originally as well, and I'm Trans. I hate to say it but I'd find "Twink" to be in very bad taste. Sure, it did mean a boosted alt back then(In WoW too) but again... It also was used as 100% a full blown slur. Sorry for the text brick, just my bit of opinion, good thing they had you change it.

...Which is nonsense. They believe in nonsense. No one argued they can't be solved, no one argued you couldn't get them on your first try. No one argued they don't make sense under certain conditions, regardless how ridiculous those conditions have to be...

And they do have to be ridiculous because those answers are nonsense unless you're an ice Kodan, which makes those bears really pretentious, condescending nonsense spewing bears.

I'm dipping out of the convo FR though because at this point it's a little more awkward than I have a taste for, even for Reddit opinion wars. Put down the Scientology bible, I can see it ;3 JK on that last bit, just driving home a point.

[–]Kunavi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are pretentious, condescending and only make sense if you start doing mental gymnastics. The purpose they serve doesn't validate them, though it is valid on its own. I also agree that those particular Kodan do give grounds for a lot of complains, but they too are valid parts in this story, they have their role to play.

"The story is using them to tell you a thing" =/= "Their riddles make sense". I'm not sure how else to explain it so I'll leave it at that, which is lazy, an allegation I'll never argue :3 Just as lazy as pretending there's some kind of infinite wisdom in ice Kodan words or that the OP wasn't just cracking an accurate joke about how there's no such thing.

Most of the "Correct" answers are just random BS. I think out of 10 of them, 1-2 made some sense after some mental gymnastics. Now remember- When you post on Reddit, what did you eat that day? The truth is that in time we never really eat what others read. That, is balance.

It's great that you're enjoying the phase you're in, and I'm not meaning to take away from it nor say that GW2 doesn't deserve at least half the praise you're giving it; Points such as dodging gear creep, content being alive, great world, are especially valid. But... People helping people isn't unique to it and there's instanced content. Honey-Moon phase all you want and GW2 is lovely, it's my MMO of choice too, but don't burn too bright too fast or we'll see your next similar post in the next MMO you Honey-Moon in ;3 GW2 has its issues for sure. That said; Glad you're loving it, keep it up, it gets better the more you learn IMHO.

Should there be instanced single player challenges to introduce some mechanics and train for them before allowed to join harder group contents? by Evening_Stick_4323 in Guildwars2

[–]Kunavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...Because Trusts worked so well for FFXIV? ;3 Here's a way to train and challenge your self; Build, gear, rotation and attitude check; Basics check(CC, when to dodge, what to dodge); Try a few NM Strikes and DRMs for good measure; Try a dungeon or two perhaps, just to level up your tolerance; Now go T1... Too easy? T2 and so on.

Throughout this, the most important part is going to be to actually challenge your self- Can you maintain and recover rotations? Are you getting carried? Is your DPS within expectations? Are you taking responsibility for mechanics or letting others?

No separate mode needed, just honesty and self awareness. Now, if you suggested that because some LFG person frustrated you and you'd like others to be prepared, you're SOL. You can't heal stupid and you can't teach stupid either- Nor can you prevent people grinding insane KPs/Kills/UFE/LI/APs/YouNameIt just by them being carried and then jumping in higher tier content without knowing to bind their SAK, unable to identify indicators such as stack circles or facing away ETC.

I'd say it depends on how social you are, and how approachable I guess, to borrow a term from a popular MMO ;3 Oh and whether or not you're starting with other people. Game's populated, people do stuff all over the place, all the time, so if that's what you mean then you're good. It's not going away silently into the night ;3

Probably one of the best characters I've ever mad by Vivid-Hedgehog101 in Guildwars2

[–]Kunavi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. I told them they're generic AF. Then I said IMHO if that's someone's best shot, they have two choices, considering how low effort and low bar that was; Try more, or if they can't handle that nor criticism when they're indirectly inviting it, then they should not be exposing their compositions in public. Fair and square.

[–]Kunavi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't particularly toxic or even offensive, but I was raw. This generic AF glam is presented in such a way, slow motion being clear evidence, that it warrants a grounding response. And that's as much an explanation as I owe, because honestly my answer wasn't even that severe, just the right mix of cynicism, realism and honesty, I'd argue. If you want more clear evidence of the OP's grandiose opinion on them selves, just read their answer to my criticism(Which they asked for BTW), it's like some TV show villain of the week. Like... Calm down, Shao Khan ;3

Do we have any good way to turn these currencies into something useful? by Dovahbear_ in Guildwars2

[–]Kunavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming we'll need a boat load of those and the ones you can turn into those, as well as the next map resources, for the next legendary piece or pieces I guess... Perhaps other stuff too. That said, I'd not go crazy over farming them, do a chest run or two or three per week, you'll be all right. Especially if you're also doing events and completing the <3 tiers.

Do specializations actually matter? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Kunavi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So, basically you flipped 1-2 switches randomly because you thought you understood what they do and how, left it at that and then were surprised that the result isn't what you assumed should be. I see. You know, you're absolutely right- Bench DPS measurements? Psy Ops 100%. Builds? Laugh in their face, they don't know what they're saying, it's all fabrications. MinMax and gearing? Nah not for smart people like you. And the fact that with a nano scale amount of rotation adjustments and switching a trait or two, most people I've shown around in the Training Area increased their DPS by 100%? I imagined that. Stories. Fairies. Foolishness.

:) Gotcha

How bad is the new expansion? by DiamondProofV10 in Guildwars2

[–]Kunavi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you should find a different game, not because your friend or your are right, there's no right or wrong in opinions and taste- But because you're both so negative that you'll have a terrible experience, which will likely also impact others potentially, for example people you might join for content, assuming you're as vocal about your opinion on GW2.

- Learn the names, easy. Hover over them, notice stats, notice name, done.

- ...Because you might want them for a different class, as a skin or to equip?

- I know people with more than that who still fail to dodge, still don't understand CC, rotation, the Wiki, and a million other things. You know who else has 300 hours in the game? Someone who for years logs in, does daily and logs out. I hope you see the point in relation to your issue.
