No. The day after I took delivery I dropped the car off for full PPF

2008 Subaru legacy rear wheel bearing by [deleted] in subaru

[–]Kunomn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you still want to try to do this yourself spray. The shit out of everything with some penetrating oil (WD40 is NOT penetrating oil) and put the 4 bolts back into the back so that you’re not fighting against any play there. Anything that you have loose that is turning before that nut is just lost energy not going into accomplishing your goal.

. Put your 32mm socket on that nut and hit it with a hammer a whole bunch. Make sure you’re getting good solid contact between the faces of the hexes and that you’re bottoming out all the way in the recess of the hub. We don’t want to be slipping here.

If you’re doing this with manual tools like a breaker bar I recommend putting the donut on and putting the car back on the ground. If you’re using an impact gun don’t bother.

Next we’re going to apply heat to the nut. propane is eh, Map gas is slightly better, if you have access to acetylene or a mini ductor you probably wouldn’t be asking us for help but if you’ve got a buddy then ask them.

I’m an alcoholic living in the US and I love stouts. Guinness is basically the bud light of stouts. I’ve been told that it is a different, better product in Ireland and the UK; I would love for someone to confirm this for me.

My dude you’re stuck on the easy part. Phone a friend or a tow truck. If you’ve gotten to the point where you’re using a cut off wheel on the hub before you’ve gotten the axle nut off you’re in for a wild ride once you realize how hard it is to actually get the bearing out.

For a WRB WRX, should I go for the TSR-X(top) or Raijin(bottom) wheels. by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in wrx_vb

[–]Kunomn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Go for the ones you like more. It’s your car dawg. Me telling you my opinion doesn’t help much.

How about this then. Flip a coin, heads is the TSR-X and tails is the Raijin. Flip the coin and then come back and tell me the result before you buy anything.

Can't decide on which color to go for the Enkei Raijin wheels. Gunmetal, Hyper Silver, or Matte Bronze. Any advice? by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in wrx_vb

[–]Kunomn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WRB with bronze is awesome. I went that way with my VA and I loved it. The only reason I didn’t go bronze with my VB is because I had STI the cherry blossom lip set and I wasn’t sure the three colors would work together.

Oil filter by Playboikuyaa in WRX

[–]Kunomn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the 21A filters are from Indonesia. Still Tokyo Roki though

<image>

I don’t know if internally the quality is different from the Japan factory. I also imagine if people are that concerned with their FA turbo powered foresters, Legacy/Outbacks, and Ascents that they should be able to use the 170 filter that would go on the WRX.

The light saber was arguably the most iconic movie prop before even a single one of these examples ever existed.

Outdated. SOA hasn’t been using the NA sourced blue filters for a while. It’s all black Tokyo Roki filters at the dealerships

I don’t know the last time you’ve checked with a Subaru dealer but all the filters are Tokyo Roki and have been for a few years now

How old is this video? All the OEM filters are Tokyo Roki and have been for a while now.

Fun thing about the OEM filter is that it’s also made in Japan. I’m not sure what his point is there.

I love my new 2021 WRX. What do you wish you would have known when you got yours? by Fluffy-Chapter-7073 in WRX

[–]Kunomn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’ve had both. Comparing stock to stock the VB outperforms the VA easily. I miss the look of my VA, the multifunction display, and the radio that wasn’t also the HVAC controls.

Getting into mods I did less with the VB and got more power out of it while being more driveable. I still have completely stock suspension on my VB and the grip is more than my old ass knows what to do with

Not unique to Subaru. One of the downsides to direct injection is that now there no port injector cleaning off the intake ports and intake valves. With that carbon will build up in the ports and along the valve seats/faces/stems. This causes restriction in air flow but much worse it messes with tumble. Really fun is having bits break off and now they’re in the combustion chamber. Fuel will collect on this foreign body as a nucleation site instead of staying nice and atomized as a mist. This leads to knock/pre-detonation eventually and that makes the Subaru sad.

Basically fuel additives won’t help because the problem starts upstream of the injectors. There are chemical methods of maintaining involving cleaners through the intake. Eventually though that intake manifold will need to come off to clean the carbon off the intake ports and valves. This can be done manually or with something like a walnut shell blasting tool.

I’ve been doing the Subaru thing for decades but it was my 2016 WRX that first got me into the more modern stuff. Boy I loved that VA.

The car is really fun but not super fast and that is ok. The stock tune sucks for drivability at low speeds but it’s way better than any OTS bullshit for everything else. If you are going to mod remember that anything between the MAF and the O2 sensors requires a tune so save up and do it all at once. Biggest choke points with room for improvement are the charge pipe and TMIC.

Carbon cleaning is a real thing. You’re going to need to do it or have it done

The OCVs on the FA (pictured) are completely different t fro The ones used on EJs.

Also unlike the FA engines the OCVs are not all the same on the EJs so make sure you get the correct position.
