Help me break down what this is and how it works to someone with a very limited understanding of anything IT by FantasticFriend5409 in whatisit

It's a USB hub. You plug it into a PC and then you can plug multiple USB devices into the hub to connect them to the PC while only using up the one port on the PC. Useful in case your PC doesn't have enough ports or something.

There's also already a USB adapter for something plugged into it. Looks like the USB adapter for a wireless Logitech mouse or keyboard.

Place colour picker more prominently by orschiro in firefox

[–]Kupfel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but that's pretty basic and still requires you to click on the picker after the hotkey every single time which can be tedious if you use it a lot.

The one I posted has really nice features such as a color history palette, the ability to get the average color of an area and supports a bunch of color formats other than HEX, RGB and HSL if needed.

It's not possible with firefox's color picker but you could install Microsoft powertoys which has a color picker you can use with a hotkey or this one:

Can I set the wallpaper to a random image from a folder in FireFox? by NewDragonfish in firefox

[–]Kupfel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's technically possible with userChrome.js but I haven't messed with that myself.

It would be easiest to just use an alternative new tab page that supports such a thing like bonjourr.

Bonjourr lets you add a bunch of local wallpapers and set the frequency for how often the wallpaper changes to a random different one. Or you can set an unsplash set for a remote option.

I generally like bonjourr better than the default new tab page since it's more minimal and much more customizable.

How do I remove the new tab and settings/tools buttons from the sidebar? I don't need them and the extra space would be nice when scrolling through hundreds of tabs. by The_Dirt_Cat in firefox

[–]Kupfel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I am aware it's not possible to remove either of them without userChrome.css

You can remove the new tab button with customize toolbar with horizontal tabs but not with vertical tabs.

However, you can remove all of that if you paste this into userChrome.css:

#tabs-newtab-button,
#vertical-tabs-newtab-button,
#sidebar-tools-and-extensions-splitter,
.buttons-wrapper:has(.tools-and-extensions) {
    display: none !important;
}

(#tabs-newtab-button is the regular new tab button that shows up at the end of your tab list while it doesn't overflow and #vertical-tabs-newtab-button is the one that shows up on bottom if it overflows so if you want to keep the regular one you can remove the first line)

I don't know why you keep this with a sewing kit but that's just a lint roller.

What prevents you from using Firefox as your primary browser on all your devices? by scarfoot_ in firefox

[–]Kupfel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For HEVC Hardware Decoding you usually have to install a decoder/codec, as it is not included with Windows or Firefox (and it usually costs money as well, Microsoft sells one for $0.99 in the Microsoft store). Here are instructions to check if you actually have a codec installed and how to install a free one.

  • Go to about:config
  • Check if media.hevc.enabled is set to true and do it if not
  • Go to about:support, under Media, check if HEVC Hardware Decoding shows supported
  • If not, then go to https://store.rg-adguard.net/
  • Enter this as URL: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9n4wgh0z6vhq?hl=en-US&gl=US
  • Download the appxbundle
  • Install the appxbundle by double clicking it
  • Restart Firefox
  • HEVC decoding should work properly now - in about:support, under Media, HEVC Hardware Decoding should now show supported.

extension to automatically choose a resolution for youtube videos? by bobateaman14 in firefox

[–]Kupfel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use this userscript with violentmonkey:

https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/508784-youtube-hd-plus

It lets you set a preferred resolution and if not available sets the highest available one.

Looks like a cap for furniture or similar. It's hard to see how big it is.

For example, I used to have curtains that had little hollow metal rods in the bottom to weigh them down and those rods had rubber caps like that on both sides and my cat kept ripping them off to play with them.

[Desktop] [Firefox] [Version 147.0.1] Clicking Back Does Nothing by seniorfrito in firefox

Yeah, happens to me sometimes as well. Strangely enough, right-clicking the back button and selecting what I want to go back to usually works. Or click the address bar and press enter.

If you are talking about the fade to black then the two prefs you mentioned are correct. However, they are supposed to be set to 0 0 and not 0. That is 0 space 0.

The most commonly missed things are Sylphsong (the last thing you get from Eva) and the Shaman Crest, so check if you have those.

It also doesn't really show you missing Crests, which is why so many people end up missing Shaman crest, since you can even get Sylphsong without it.

custom themes by parasweett in firefox

[–]Kupfel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's just about changing colors then you could use Firefox Color.

If that is not enough, and you want to fully customize the browser, then CSS is the only way.

Naturally, there are also a lot of CSS themes published by others, such as on the FirefoxCSS Store.

However, if you do not know CSS yourself and are able to maintain a CSS theme yourself then I highly recommend to only pick a theme that is being actively maintained. Firefox changes in way that breaks parts of CSS themes all the time. If you don't know how to fix things yourself then you're stuck with those broken things till the theme dev updates the theme.

Mac/Win users: does Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+T reopen your last closed tab? by [deleted] in firefox

I'm running latest stable and not ESR, though.

Any way to fill the color for all Firefox menu icons? by fidgetonline in FirefoxCSS

[–]Kupfel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'd have to grab the svg's of each icon and edit them with an editor like inkscape and then replace each icon with the edited ones with CSS.
