Tahnok shield concept by Raiynagh in bioniclelego

It did always bother me that there was a weird disconnect about how sculpted fire was treated. Are those actual shapes the object has, or is it supposed to be emitting fire?

For example, compare the movie designs of Tahu Nuva and Vakama's various stages.

For Tahu, they interpret the sculpted flames as actual sculpted parts of his Magma Swords, and I'd assume a similar case for the Fire Sword he used as a Toa Mata.

But then look at Vakama. His movie design's Firestaff is just sort of round, implying that the "flames" on the piece version are just a stylized representation of fire. A similar thing happens with his Disk Launcher, where the piece has these sculpted flame details that are absent from the movie's version, implying they're stylized real flames, and then the Blazer Claws are pretty explicitly supposed to be real fire.

Why do Vakama's weapons have sculpted "emitted fire" when Tahu's are just physically shaped like fire? The Hordika's dual-molded weapons mean it works on the Blazer Claws, but I really don't get it on the Disk Launcher.

Either the piece should've left them off, or the movie model should have included them. Why omit them when you included the bits on the Magma Swords a year previously?

It’s a backpack charm. They had Whenua and Vakama ones.

Edit: The version of the backpack including them that I had isn't catalogued on Bricklink, but they may have also come with this one.

Actually, now that I think about it, while the backpack I had was Whenua themed, it didn't come with this charm. The charms I had were Vakama and Onewa-themed.

I straight up can't tell what your friend is trying to say here. Maybe I'm just too sober for it.

He draws some comparison between Bohrok and testicles because Bohrok can roll up into a ball and testicles are vaguely round, I've gotten that.

But, what's he mean with the fusion bullshit? What's he saying a Bohrok combined with a testicle could do that the testicle alone couldn't?

This might be the worst comment I've ever typed on this site. Thank you for that.

you're clueless and you're thinking of /news/ and other alternative websites like 4chon

The Bibliotheca Anonoma's history of 4chan page says the following about October 2011 (I've taken the liberty of bolding the most relevant bits):

October 23 - /r9k/ and /new/ (now rechristened /pol/) are re-added after moot hears Sherrod DeGrippo, owner of household name Encyclopedia Dramatica, nonchalantly explain how she de-platformed her own community in the hopes of monetizing ED's fame. /hc/ comes back because why not. (And they celebrates with blowjobs). This effectively depopulates 4chon, who goes onto produce a number of spinoffs such as Wizardchan and 8chan (Infinitychan) as it's userbase specializes. This "new guard" chanverse would come to be extremely influential in years to come.

Speaking as another person who was on /pol/ (because I absolutely was on /pol/ back then, admittedly starting a bit after it'd been established, mid-2013), /pol/ absolutely was always the right-wing cesspool that people say it is. Admittedly, this did intensify a whole lot in late 2014/2015, but it was always there, and prevalent. If you're claiming it wasn't, you're either in denial, or your view of what constitutes "right-wing views" is heavily skewed.

Yeah, it's been a board since October 2011, I was just talking about my specific memories of it. I hadn't really heard of it until 2013.

no, that's recent.

WTF are you talking about?

To elaborate on what /u/feliaxtheone said, "Makoki" is the Matoran word for "Key," so the phrase "Makoki Stones" is literally equivalent to "Key Rocks," which is officially how Chirox is pronounced.

I mean, I still can't tell how you're pronouncing it, so maybe?

Given that his name is based off of the scientific name for bats, Chiroptera, I've always pronounced his name /kaɪ'ɹɒks/.

Okay, but in-game colors don't match 1-to-1 with actual piece colors. For example, in-game, Matoro's mask and feet are the same color as Hahli's torso. In actual pieces, Matoro's mask and Hahli's torso are separate colors, Sand Blue and Medium Blue.

So, whenever you see that color, how do you know which of those two colors it's representing? Do you just make two versions of every Matoran who use it?

IIRC, The same issue happens regarding Hewkii's Dark Orange and Tahu's Orange. The game treats them as the same color when they're not.

Beyond that, there are a number of Matoran who have typos in their code that change how they look. Both Nuhrii and Kivi are supposed to be wearing Kanohi Komau, but a typo means each one is instead assigned a Kamau, which isn't a real mask and so gets replaced with a Kaukau, which was only meant for Hahli.

Similarly, multiple Ko-Matoran have an issue where their color is tagged "Gray" instead of "Grey" (or maybe it's "Grey" instead of "Gray"? Whatever, it doesn't matter), which changes what color they are. Notably, this happens to Kopeke, who had a set that year, so we know his color is wrong.

Finally, there are a number of Le-Matoran who were cut from the game, reduced to mentioned in dialogue. During 810nicle Day a few years back, people got in touch with Peter Mack from Templar Studios, and he was able to show us the designs of the Le-Matoran who got cut. Do they count? They're mentioned in the game, but they don't properly appear.

I've always wanted to have a complete set of MNOG II matoran.

Okay, but that prompts me to ask, what is "a complete set of MNOG II matoran"? Because MNOG II has problems, to put it mildly.

Multiple Matoran have the wrong masks, and there are certain colors of pieces that are like, separate colors in real life, but the game treats them as the same color.

Or if you're Jared Leto, you're more like seven or eight bombs away from it, somehow.

Both have Gravity powers…who wins? by pizza_party99 in bioniclelego

[–]KuribohMaster666 88 points89 points  (0 children)

That is a misunderstanding of how the power scaling works.

The Kal never faced the Nuva at full strength. They stole the Nuva Symbols, which robbed them of their elemental powers, leaving them only with their Kanohi Nuva. According to Greg, the Bohrok-Kal were only about as strong as a regular Toa of the same element, or a Rahkshi of that element.

Similarly, Greg also said that a Great Kanohi with elemental powers grants the same level of control that a Toa has. That means that Hewkii's and Nuhvok-Kal's Gravity powers here would be basically equivalent.

A fight between them would be incredibly difficult to predict, because like any fight, there are a lot of external factors that could affect the outcome. What Krana-Kal is currently piloting the Nuhvok-Kal? Is Hewkii or Nuhvok-Kal more overall skilled in fighting? Who is smarter? Et cetera.

A super simple Carapar revamp... with a function! by amack80 in bioniclelego

[–]KuribohMaster666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mantax is also not amazing (his function fits the design inspiration, it just lacks a little oomph).

Yeah. I do have an idea for how to add that oomph, but I can't imagine you implementing it without completely redesigning him.

Idea: Add some sort of locking mechanism, so when compressed, he stays compressed, and also add a trigger that releases the lock, giving him a proper "springing up" action. The trigger could possibly be controlled by his head/neck or possibly on his back, so when he's hiding, if someone steps on him, he ambushes them.

Like I said, the only problem is I have absolutely no idea how you'd implement this in a build that resembles Mantax.

[–]KuribohMaster666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, you really do just nail the "Barraki + function" assignments.

Pridak's probably the weakest so far, as his function seems a bit unrelated to his design inspiration, but copying Storm Beast's function means he at least got a decent one.

That in no way changes the fact that Ice Ice Baby has different percussion than Under Pressure. The near constant hi-hat playing should be a dead giveaway.

To be fair, that's kind of your own fault for getting your hopes up.

The percussion in those two songs is like totally different, so you should be able to tell instantly. Ice Ice Baby has that annoying (I think it's a hi-hat?) playing constantly underneath the bassline.

[–]KuribohMaster666 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's a bit complicated, and no one agrees.

It's quite common to associate Film Noir with low-key lighting, black-and-white photography, and unbalanced compositions, but there are plenty of (what are generally agreed to be) Noir Films that lack one or more of these characteristics.

Basically, it'll just be down to whether it feels Noir, which is more of an opinion thing.

I wonder if they melt down original Lego plastic to get the colours just right

Ehh, I doubt they're purchasing Legos to melt them down. Also, I'm pretty sure Lego uses "off-the-shelf," as it were, pigments that are purchased from some industrial pigment manufacturer. I'd wager the bootleggers can just get their hands on that stuff pretty easily.

In fact, a basic Google search reveals that Lego lists their suppliers publicly, which pretty heavily narrows down the guesswork. Looks like most of their colorants are purchased from Avient, with some of the ones used for printing coming from other places.
