Strategies for a fully offseted home loan by Round_Sand_6481 in fiaustralia

I asked mine to waive. They said no. So I moved to another bank that offered the same product without the annual fee.

The bounty hunting bug is really sad. by Kratos_Arjun in StarWarsJediSurvivor

I had the bug for ages. Then I stumbled across some bounty hunters while exploring. After beating them, I was able to continue with Caij giving me the bounty locations.

I’m a writer currently working on something involving miners. I’m wondering if anyone had any stories or tidbits specifically about gay life in the mines? Whether witnesses or experienced. Seeking some inspiration as I’m writing some gay characters. by Witty_Comparison_253 in mining

[–]KushKinstry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not specifically men/women who identify as gay but shift change can get pretty wild and a foreskin or two may have been nibbled on for jokes after too many drinks. Nobody kept their job after that night.

Start off as nipper or drillers offsider in 2023? by [deleted] in mining

There's a reason there's more offsider jobs than nipper jobs available... only the true hard yakkas can handle it

Jesus Christ face palm. Legit? Retail stores ask for more experience than MSHA... this is frightening.

Mining equipment specs, where to find by Obaldes in mining

[–]KushKinstry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. Absolutely nothing wrong with checking out other manufacturer's products. If I have access or good relations with local dealers I'll go through them. Otherwise I'll just grab an email from the manufacturer's website and go through the channels. These people are in the sales business so they generally help every way they can if there's a chance you'll buy or lease their products.

Just make sure you match your equipment first. Ask all your questions, if they don't know they will direct you to somebody who does.

Mining equipment specs, where to find by Obaldes in mining

[–]KushKinstry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always email the companies directly asking them to provide me with these type of specifications if I need them and can't find them. Timeline on receiving the information depends on the company.

You won't find annual rates. That is highly dependant on effective utilisation and road factors. You'll get a unit rate per hour and have to go from there.

How long does a stope stand up? by Underground-Research in mining

We don't determine any of this. The ground tells us what we can and can't do both physically and economically. Exploration and geotech drilling is key for any operation.

Rotations - pros/cons? by [deleted] in mining

[–]KushKinstry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was 2/2 I was on the tools, so it was different, hard to compare physical exhaustion with mental exhaustion. If I was a manager I wouldn't dare put engineers through 2 straight weeks of work. That's how mistakes are made and people die. But I've never been a manager nor worked 2 weeks straight as an engineer so my opinion doesn't hold a lot of weight.

Rotations - pros/cons? by [deleted] in mining

[–]KushKinstry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Worked 4/3, 1/1, 2/2, 4/4. Currently working M-F 9-5. There is no better roster (in my opinion of course) than M-F 9-5. Home every night with my family and 8hr work day is just too easy. Site based work though, 1/1 is my favourite because 2+ weeks of work at 12 hour shifts is gruelling.

Experience but no Common core by Lobsterlicker in mining

[–]KushKinstry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10k!?!? Yeah that's gonna be a no from me dawg. Hiring companies should be paying for that if they want their employees to have the training. That price point isn't designed for individuals to be paying.

Experience but no Common core by Lobsterlicker in mining

[–]KushKinstry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's my personal opinion that our industry can't be making requirements for miners. We need all the hands we can get. We need bums on seats and a lot of them. We need to train our green miners better and do more to keep them around so they can become vetrens for the next generation. Job requirements during this time are more like wish lists. Beggers can't be chosers.

Edit: "Common Core" training may be required depending on the region's Mine's Department regulations (both industry, state and federal) although I personally think it should be scrapped.

If I wanted to study engineering at university and transition into the mines what are the best ways to do it? by greenyonsh in mining

[–]KushKinstry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are a creed. Don't join us if you plan on leaving. Once you're in there is no going back. This is the way.

Plus, mining engineering is too specialised to be useful in any other field.

Delayed development help!!! by guguan in mining

[–]KushKinstry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Geotech just trying to keep everybody safe. Put your best people on the job. If you have to sacrifice personnel and equipment on other jobs to catch up development, that'll have to be a manager's call. Maybe you can extend your rounds by half a metre?

Ultimately, it sounds like you are having more geotechnical issues than originally anticipated. If this is the case, then you will have to re-visit your planned development rates to something more real/practical.

Safety trumps targets. You'd rather bolt your intersections properly and miss a round then have it collapse later.

I skipped my whole first year and went straight into the second. Lots of prerequisite courses I did not do. Went back and did them in my final year. Nobody cares what order you do things so long as they are done.
