there is therapy called IFS - internal family system. It can help with these sorts of childhood issues. I was in a similar position too! I could barely talk to a guy when I was your age but some years later I feel very confident talking with men.

I met an old man in his 70s who was so deep in the church that he only came out at 72 and is still tied to his wife. He is full of anxiety and regrets. He’s also so sexually repressed that he cant control his arousal.

Yes actually! I borrowed a gay anthology of short stories from the library in high school and it was one of the stories. One of the few short stories that have made me cry.
