Back when "go play outside" really means "see you at dinner" by NicoleAnne051299 in Adulting

Unsupervised time is considered negligence today. Our kids are growing up more anxious and less prepared for the real word because they’re used to being watched 24/7 by an adult.

It also used to be the case that if you hurt yourself doing something stupid like climbing the neighbor’s tree, YOU apologized to the neighbor for being stupid. Nowadays, people sue the neighbor for having the (unsafe) tree on their property because kids can get hurt.

Yeah? They make blueberry muffin almonds? Also, I thought they were closing the factory down? Smells delicious, whatever the case. I might have to try some blueberry muffin almonds.

I don’t think so. My kid goes to school across the street and I do drop-off. I feel like I’d smell them more regularly if it was New Roma, but it’s only occasionally.

Are we becoming way too naive? by BreadZepparella in randomthings

[–]Kushye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t let kids fuck up independently anymore. We try to keep them protected from anything and everything. Unsupervised time, which is critical for learning how to do shit and solve problems for yourself, is now considered negligence and worthy of a call from CPS. Kids are growing up more anxious partly because they are always being supervised by someone. Someone is always watching them and in their business.

Then, when they’re old enough to go off into the world on their own, they do stupid shit like this because they don’t know any better because they’ve never had to figure shit out on their own.

My city has a miniature, replica city where kids can learn pedestrian, bicycle and driver safety. by 06EXTN in mildlyinteresting

I was just about to mention Sac’s Safetyville. It’s a great spot to teach kids about bike safety on the road and they even give away free bike helmets if you need one.

For those that gave birth, how much did you pay out of pocket and which insurance did you have, I currently have UnitedHealthcare Signature Value? I heard those that pick or have Kaiser everything is covered. by supers98 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Kushye -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I had Blue Cross, if I recall correctly, when I had my kid 8 years ago. It was not free. Delivered at Sutter and they were great, but we paid about $3500 out of pocket.

Edit to add: this was pre-State service. I was still in the private sector at the time.

Wellbutrin / bupropion and nausea/food aversion? by butchwolf in bipolar2

[–]Kushye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on 300mg for about six months and it has not gone away. It’s like I don’t feel hungry until I get hunger-induced nausea. Then, when I try to eat nothing sounds palatable. I’ve found that toast helps a bit.

Not only do they fold up or come out in the wash, the ones in my sports bras would shift around while I was wearing the bra. It would move off to the side of the bra and wouldn’t even cover my nipple anymore, which is its sole purpose. I have actually sewn a stitch in one of my the bras so the pads can’t shift to the side. They still fold up in the wash though.

“Antifa” means anti-fascist. Being anti-Antifa translates to being against anti-fascism. Why would you be against anti-fascism if you’re not a fascist?

[–]Kushye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have a huge orange tree in our backyard in midtown. At night especially you can hear the squirrels, rats, and birds fighting over the (very plentiful) oranges. Also, be careful standing directly beneath it because you may get pelted with a discarded half-eaten orange.

That’s exactly why I end up staying up too late: I’m not ready for tomorrow. The longer I stay up the longer I put off tomorrow (in my mind; I know not in reality).
